I like this ad for the graphic appeal. At the beginning it looks like an ad for candy which is fun. Yes, the music is a bit ho hum but the thing about it is if the music was too high strung it would take away the appeal of the ad which is to get you mesmerized and intrigued about what this liquid candy is turning into.

Here's the thing, for the people on this forum that are working so hard to tell the rest of us how horrible this ad is, think again. It's not horrible and it will sell the iPhone 5C this coming holiday. You're talking about it right? That's good publicity That's the point of an ad. It's not the same as Microsoft's recent crap of an ad where they were purposely trying to offend people. That's the wrong kind of publicity.

Apple can release a .1 second video ad, and we will still be talking about. What else do u expect in MACrumors?

I don't like this ad. Too much cgi and not enough of the real physical product. They had something similar with the 5s video they showed during the event. I don't know if they used much cgi in older ads but if they did it was much more subtle.

I don't know why, but the color seems "off" for me. somethings not right, can't put my finger on it though...

but I like this color a lot:

I miss the ol' iMac G3s so much.

Yup, check out the original. Great song. The distortion in the Sleigh Bells version kills the clarity of the intro, but that intro is unmistakable. Fantastic lyrics. Great funk groove. Insane bass vocals to counter the falsetto... I guess some see the classics as dated, but then some people don't want to learn the originators.

And, absolutely no! Don't want to suggest that I don't like the new or derivative stuff. (I like the added vocalizations... maybe not the vocals (unsure, yet).) Or that you don't want to check out the old. (Just saying some don't.) I'll check out Sleigh Bells, definitely. Why not.

Very cool because I already listened to, loved & downloaded the original that you mentioned :)

Cheers! :)

a nice ad aimed at the younger crowd. will work quite well IMO. can't even begin to understand all the bile spewed in this thread thrashing it.

omg! this is so pathetic what apple is doing. Next time they will use cow droppings and tell us its the best bc. that makes the phone bio-degradable.

I admit apple knows how to sell stuff - but this is over the edge and they do not get it.

There's just no winning.

iPhone 5: "Why did Apple make a device that's so hard to manufacturer? The higher cost of manufacturing will cut into their margins. Apple has lost its way!"

iPhone 5C: "Why did Apple make a device that's easier to manufacture? The lower cost of manufacturing does nothing except increase their margins. Apple has lost its way!"

The problem with continuing to sell the iPhone 5 is illustrated by the first point above.... it would still be just as hard to manufacture as the iPhone 5S. So continuing to build iPhone5's while trying to build the 5S would have constrained both devices. Now, Apple gets to sell the iPhone5 as an entirely new product while freeing up the manufacturing resources for the 5S.

None of these statements mean anything to me as a consumer.

All I need to know is that the product [if indeed it is being touted as an evolving product] is at least done so to appear in the interests of the consumer and not to satisfy AAPL.

I did not tell Apple to make the 4 out of glass and then the 5 out of metal (I was happy with my 3GS), yet the design and quality of the evolving product was in line with the price and the quality of other [evolving] Apple products.

If they made the 5C at a price point which reflects fact it is a 2nd tier product, then myself and others would welcome the "innovation" and appreciate the reasons for the new design.

Like everything I consider buying, I don't care how much it cost the company to make, I care only how much they are trying to charge me.

As to "There's just no winning.", of course there is, it just depends who's side you are on.

translation:

"i'm completely out of touch with a gigantic swath of potential phone buyers but i'll go ahead and express my expertise anyway"

So after so clearly missing my point, what is yours?

I didn't miss your point... Talk practical and not trash... A healthy argument is worth it...

Like you said make tea in a tea pot made of chocolate, it is as trash as asking some to make a phone of cloth or grass... So talk feasible and sense... Just don't go spewing nonsense for the sake of argument...

I would think that anything and everything a publicly traded corporation does is in service to their stock price and all the shareholders.

Sometimes those things are have short term benefits, sometimes the benefits are expected to be realized in the longer term.

If Apple builds/evolves a product that seems to be in the best interest to the consumer, it is only because Apple expects some kind of benefit to their bottom line - directly or indirectly, in the short term or maybe in the long term.

Thank you. Apple has been re-using this exact ad for decades. People ain't buyin it anymore (kinda like their stock).

:apple:

I don't think any of the words in your reply mean what you think they mean.

Before this thread gets too out of control.... think about this. It's sometimes not the material that people have an issue with.

It's build quality.

There are a lot of phones made out of plastic that have removable batteries. By nature, the battery door is usually a thin flimsy attachment. It may wiggle and squeak... and it could make the entire phone feel less than desirable in the hand. After all... it's two pieces.

In contrast... a phone with a one-piece plastic shell over a strong metal chassis will feel much better in the hand. It feels like a solid mass.

Both of those are "plastic phones" but their build quality is quite different.

lol backtrack backtrack oh, no this bag is not a parachute

All I need to know is that the product [if indeed it is being touted as an evolving product] is at least done so to appear in the interests of the consumer and not to satisfy AAPL.

And that's why the internet, particularly this forum, is a very poor place to go for analysis of Apple's product lines and performance.
On one hand, you say the product must satisfy the interests of the consumer and not AAPL, and yet if AAPL rises or falls more than 20 points any given day, this forum will be filled with "analysis" of the stock.

So instead of last year's model at $99, you can buy an all-new (slightly improved in many respects) model for $99. Is that a bad thing?

Last year's model would still be a premium product. The 5c is not and it costs the same.

The nice product if you don't have the cash is the 4S. Some people can consider it nicer than the 5S.

Could all the people, who's only reason as to why my galaxy s4 was crap compared to the iPhone 5S (the phone I got rid of in favour of the Sammy) was that it had a plastic back (and Apple only use high quality materials, not plastic), please let me know their thoughts now please?

Also, does anyone else find every Jonny Ive video creepy ... he talks like Ricky Gervais and as for that 5C video .... all that smarmy gushing ... sorry, big fail!

(no, I'm not a troll, I just speak facts when required!)
