Hi Yo Silver

Ordered from Apple store Wenesday. Arrived Via fed ex-today.
Now If I can only figure out how to "select" the favorite 6GB from my music Library to down load to the new Mini.(Currently using a 20GB version also)
Yipee.

i love the new mini colours. and this update was, for me, almost perfectly timed - i just received packaging from apple to return my 3rd gen 20gb and was not looking forward to being ipod-less during the wait.

so i just ordered a 4gb blue mini. yay :)

a mini is not enough for my music collection, but it is the ipod i wanted originally - but could not bear the wait after their release, hence the 20gb.

can't believe most of these pages are bickering over $20.

hey, i have a 40gig good old regular ipod i got back in october right now. i love it, really helps with the walks around campus everyday. BUT... i've liked the minis, and really like the new ones, they just stand out and look cool. I want to keep my 40 cause of how much space, but i was thinkin of gettin a mini to use in the car. any ideas of the best/most stylish way of doing this would be? its a 94 integra so obviously doest have the stuff built in like the BMWs lol.

just didnt know if there was something that stuck to ur dash and u can just take the mini in and out of it when u get in/out of the car.

I got the icelink from Dension. They offer various mounting solutions. I chose to have my iPod somewhat hidden from view so it doesn't tempt thieves. But I don't think it supports radios that old. You might look into getting a 3rd party head unit, like Alpine, that supports the iPod. Otherwise, there are always the fm transmitter type solutions.

The reduced price is perfect

I was considering getting a iPod 20GB because it was just $50/16GB more than the iPod mini 4GB. But now that the iPod mini's price has dropped to $199, I'll definitely be getting one. The price is perfect for my needs

18hrs battery = YIPPEEE!!! :D

EEK. Look at the "new" blue!

Is it 1984 again?

have ipod minis always not come with ac adapters

No. Sadly, only with the latest revision of iPods has Apple made the decision to not include an AC adapter and firewire cord with the iPod mini.

thats total bs i always listen to my ipod at night and dont have a computer close by so i need the ac adapter apples just being cheap

Apple being cheap? LOL. Whatever. If you were to buy the iPod photo 60GB, they shaved off $150. Buy whatever extra accessories you think you need and stop complaining.

I do the same thing. You can always buy one, but after purchasing a firewire cord + AC adapter the "savings" on the new lower-priced iPod minis quickly evaporates.

I'm starting to think Mac users are some of the whiniest, most ungrateful computer users ever.

I'm starting to think some Mac users, because they have nothing of substance to add to the conversation, seem only capable of posting hollow repetitive criticisms of anyone who dare question the divine Apple.

Gah. I didn't mean to put iPod photo in there, I was just on a roll I guess. :p

iPod Opening Party

Ok, I have been waiting on purchasing an ipod for a while now. I have tried many music players way back to the diamond rio 300. I have been wanting the iPod Photo but the $599 price tag was too much. With the release of the new ipods and price drops it seems like now was the time. I went to best buy tonight and they had the 60GB iPod photo there for $479. Its the old one with the dock, charger, and firewire cable. I figured the extra stuff was worth the $30 so I got it. Getting it from best buy was good because I have a 14 day return policy if I don't like it which is very nice.

Got it home and opened it up. Here are pics of my Opening Party:

First impressions are always the same with apple products. WOW! Apple packages everything with such class. The 60GB is a little thicker than I would like it but I will sacrifice for the larger hard disk.

Everything about the 60GB is nice from the desktop cradle to the unit itself.

Things I like:
1. Smooth feel of quality.
2. Full load of cables and accessories.
3. Love the carry case.
4. Comes with AV Cables.
5. Dock is nice.
6. Large Capacity. Great backup drive.
7. iSync for appts. This is great.
8. Color is a must. My wife has the iPod mini 4gb and I hate the screen.
9. Back of iPod makes a good mirror for fixing hair, adjusting hat etc. :)

Things I don't like:
1. Screen isn't as crisp as I would like it.
2. Can't drag photos and music to the device and play them without using iTunes and iPhoto.
3. No FM radio or recording functions.

So overall its nice and I like it. I would highly recommend getting the closeout ipod photos before they are gone as you get way more for your money. There are still plenty in stock. I would recommend macmall as you don't pay sales tax.

Enjoy the pics.

I must be the only person on the planet who doesn't listen to radio. :D

I got mine yesterday, charged it first (took 6 hours!) and really like it so far.

Came home and made sure I had album art for all my songs, and then loaded it up. It is a bit thicker than my 20GB, but the interface, with color, is so much nicer.

Very happy with my purchase, personally.

And it came with FIREWIRE! :p

iGary, stop being a whiner. And stop confusing potential buyers when you say new iPods dont come with "FIREWIRE".

And it came with FIREWIRE!

You mean firewire CABLE. Perhaps you should get that straight.

Deals on the older model

I went to the Apple Store in London yesterday to buy a new 4gb Mini. The sales person told me they were selling the old ones for £125, which also includes the firewire cable and AC adapter. When you compare that to £139 for the new one, plus having to by the firewire cable and AC adapter, I think it's a pretty good deal if you're willing to accept the shorter battery life.

Battery life is a pretty huge thing, IMHO.

My old silver mini got well under 8 hours on a single charge.

Meanwhile, iPodlounge.com tested the new mini's battery and it went for 26 hours 20 minutes

Plus, you can get a new 4GB mini for $179 w/edu discount from the Apple Store :)

Apple has really done a nice job on the battery issue. My 3G 15GB iPod (went through two of them under warranty) never got more than 5 hours on a good day with optimized settings.

My 4G 20GB iPod lasts forever - I haven't timed it, but I am not constantly looking at it like I did with my 3G.I just listened to a four-hour concert on my iPod Photo (40GB), and I lost one pixel line of battery power. My iPod shuffle goes and goes and goes...

Nice stuff.

I have 60 gigs, but that is because I do the lossless format. It would be easy to achieve 100 gigs in lossless.

What percentage of the iPod market do you think has the same tastes as you do, 2-3%, if that high. I wonder if we ever reach a point when we can get our iPods BTO, that way, those that dont mind paying a large premium for more storeage, can do so.
