Okay, let's be honest here. I love Apple. My fifth iPod is on its way to my house as I write this. I've had a 2G 10GB, a 3G 20GB, a 4G 20GB, a 1GB shuffle and now a 40GB photo. Yes, I bought an old photo on sale from Buy.com because it still had all of the accessories in the box. Not to mention, I've had two laptops and numerous other Apple-branded accessories. However, I do not feel at all alienated by this recent business move. Look at the numbers. We Mac users are no longer the primary iPod user base. In fact, we haven't been for quite some time. Sure Apple makes both our computers and the iPod, but the iPod hasn't been Mac-only since the summer of 2002. Do I think they should've taken out the Firewire cable? No. Do I think they are making a good decision for future iPod sales? Yes. PC users buy a lot more iPods than we do. Most PCs don't have Firewire ports. This just makes sense. My iBook only has one Firewire port, and it's currently home to a DVD writer and an iSight. Luckily, I also have two USB 2.0 ports. Thankfully, I get a USB cable to use. If I only got Firewire, then I couldn't use all of my devices without a hub. Maybe Apple should provide a Firewire hub with all iPods because of my dilemna. Wait, they sell a whole bunch of laptops every year. I NEED EXTRA FIREWIRE PORTS! WE ALL DESERVE EXTRA FIREWIRE PORTS WITH OUR iPODS! This is ridiculous.
