Price increase!

Nice to see a few extras in this low-profit-margin product. Much less nice to see the price rise in Europe!! Listen Apple - these are computers - the prices are supposed to go down, not UP!!! :p

Being unable to update the graphics card on the mini along with the slow hdd performance is perfectly fixable and has nothing to do with the switch to intel.

The GPU/VRAM can't be fixed if Apple has a huge stock of motherboards in stock. Same goes for the HDs.

AE/BT aren't even built in on the low end model. Literally, with the exception of making 512 the standard RAM, there has been no update whatsoever. Getting both wireless and a SuperDrive costs as much as it did before. Why would they even bother with overstock.com if it's exactly the same stuff?

Pathetic, pathetic. These hucksters won't be getting my business anytime soon.

Will you people stop comparing prices! The USA and Canadian prices don't include the taxes! Your prices do! That's where the huge price difference comes from!
Really? I never knew that... thanks!

The Mac mini can hardly be improved until the Intel switch. After all it is supposed to be not only a cheap computer, but also a very tiny one.

I guess we were at least expecting the Radeon 9550/32MB, like the new iBooks.

Better grfx like like the Radeon 9550.
If they can put it in an iBook, why not in a mini?

It's bad enough that the first Mac minis were released with a graphics card unprepared for the Tiger update (it isn't able to handle some of the widget effects). I can't believe this one doesn't resolve that issue. At least the people who got the first Mac minis (especially ones who already bought extra memory somewhere else and don't need Airport) don't feel bad for having an older model...

ok iBook excl taxes in belgium (converted to USD) 1185,21 still +186,21 ;-)
mac mini excl taxes (allso converted to usd) 603,97 still +104,97

taxes are 21%

I'd agree with you except that they made the modem optional on the higher end minis. And how long do you suppose it'll be before someone confirms that the hard drives weren't upgraded? That should have been doable without messing with actual design changes.

21%!!!

And I thought it was bad here, with a 7% tax applied on top of a 7.5% tax...

The point is, the price difference isn't as big as it seems when you remove your taxes.

Lame lame LAME!!!
I can't believe they didn't put in a core image compatible card. God, what a worthless POS "update."

I think the modem is a plug-in module that can easily be skipped on the production line. No change to the motherboard was required.

As for the HDs, as I said, they could have a really huge stock to go through, so no upgrade there either.

 Like many of Apple Fans I thought a brand new iBook will be launched. Sorry, but I'm dissapointed, because since the G3 Series the iBook design hasn't changed a lot and each update is getting more an more uninteresting (talking about design not the specs). Ok, it's just a technical update ;-)
I think if the iPhone will be redelayed or if it's just a "poor" Symbian Audio Player with some white skins, Apple will dissapoint a lot of fans.

this sux cos..

The mac mini processor (both 1.25 & 1.42) can be run at 1.5/1.55/1.66 without modification i.e the same processor, so the mini CAN be made faster but Apple choose not to do so.

The graphics cards has nothng to do with the poor supply of CPU's, (however insignificant) the mini has a lower graphic card spec than the operating system needs to utilise all its functions. A 64mb card is not out of the question.

You are forced to take BT/AE on the upper models & pay more for the privilege (UK at least). If mini's are used by switchers then why would they suddenly want a cheap mac BUT with wireless capabilities? A cheap computer but with all the trimmings - does not add up!

If you have a monitor, you have two choices mini or powermac - look at the performance/price difference. Now that there is no single G5 what about a high end mini (properly high and not what apple thinks is high).

Think Different(ly)

You've got the cause and effect all wrong. It's because they're at the point of doing updates like this that they're in turn doing the Intel migration.

Its still amazing to me how people have bought into the apple dogma on things like this.

prior to the official announcement, everyone thought intel sucked. Now, intel chips are the second coming.

So much for 'thinking different'.

Perhaps it should be changed to 'Think like apple', or 'Think like Steve'

we still have to pay them :p hahaha ok I can (as a buisness) get them 'back' since its a professional purchase ;-)

7 + 7,5?? how do they fix that?? some pay only the 7 or 7,5 and others pay both??? taxsystems are allways weird hahaha :p

The end of the Mac mini

I'm ashamed to be a Mac user. I think its time Steve Jobs stepped down. This is awful.

Six months later and the only things they changed were things the user could change on their own. Ridiculous. It has the same GPU as before so still is not Core Image compliant. The Superdrive is the same one as before without DL support which you get in the eMac and iMac. No 100GB hard drive option when you build-to-order either.

Folks, this is the end of the Mac mini. They treated the Cube this way just before killing it off.

Pathetic. :(

Hah. Yeh... I'd prefer the front page say "Improved Mac Mini" cuz... that sucks.

Someone posted early on "New Mac Mini's too!" and I clicked the link... after seeing the specs I dismissed the post as being wrong "that hasn't changed..." I thought.

Hmm.. either way... it's pathetic, but its nice to see *some* movement.

There's a 7% tax from the federal government. But then there's also a 7.5% tax from the provincial government. Problem is, the 7.5% tax is applied AFTER the 7% tax has been added!

That means we're paying a tax on a tax! (that means there's a 0.00525% tax/amount coming from nowhere, if I calculated this correctly)

I'm not sure why so many thought something monumental was coming today. With the Intel based systems coming (hopefully early next year), I didn't expect anything other than minor bumps for both the Mac mini and iBook anyway.

Apple obviously is going to save their system redesigns and other major component upgrades for when the Intel machines come along. These updates today are nothing more than stop gap measures to get them by until then. The good thing at least is that you get more for your money than you did if you bought one yesterday, and at this point that's about all you can really expect IMO. The exciting new stuff isn't going to come along until at least MWSF 2006. Like it or not, that's just how it's going to be and it shouldn't really be a big surprise to anyone.

Apple gives you an extra 256MB for free in the base model and you people still complain.

Since they refused to upgrade the hardware one iota, that shows they still have plenty of inventory to get rid of. I have to agree with you here.
