Hi-Def. IS HERE!

Today, Apple has introduced the new MacBook Pros as expected.

The new MacBook Pros utilize the Santa Rosa chipset and come in the following configurations:

$1999. 2.2GHz Core 2 Duo. 2GB RAM, 120GB HD, 15". GeForce 8600M GT 128MB
$2499. 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo. 2GB RAM, 120GB HD, 15". GeForce 8600M GT 256MB
$2799. 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo. 2GB RAM, 160GB HD, 17". GeForce 8600M GT 256MB

The new MacBook Pros will be available through the Apple Store (UK Store)

The 'upgrade' 15" (2499) has 160gb

Maybe the article should have included LED displays in the specs rather than the Phil quote, it seems that a lot of people are missing this exciting news. :D

Apple said:
The latest and greatest

MacBook Pro is built on the revolutionary Intel Core 2 Duo — which packs the power of two processor cores (up to 2.4GHz) inside a single chip. It provides 4MB of Smart Cache, L2 cache that can be shared between the cores as needed. It delivers higher performance in 2D and 3D graphics, video editing, and music encoding. But the faster engine is only part of the story. MacBook Pro delivers up to 4GB of 667MHz DDR2 memory with a faster, 800MHz frontside bus and support for hard drives up to 250GB. Ultimate speed, performance, and connectivity. To go. That’s MacBook Pro.
NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
Graphically speaking

Whether you’re creating 3D animation, editing photos from the day’s shoot, or playing your favorite video game, MacBook Pro delivers serious processing power with the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics controller.
Display’s the thing

A great video processor powers a great display. The new MacBook Pro is available in 15-inch models with a new mercury-free, power-efficient LED-backlit display and a 17-inch model with an optional 1920-by-1200 pixel display.
Packs power, not pounds

What makes MacBook Pro so mobile? Performance in a portable package. Only one inch thin and 5.4 and 6.8 pounds, respectively, the 15- and 17-inch MacBook Pro models are among the thinnest, lightest notebooks in their display class.

:apple:

LED displays ARE in these models.

I wonder why the 15" MBP doesn't have a 250GB hd option ... I guess it might be because it's 12.5mm instead of 9mm?

Still, 200GB is probably big enough for me :)

Great specs, same price, im loving it! Time to buy me a macbook pro. Anyone know if the stores have them in stock or just the online store? Peace out guys.

I am waiting for the next revision. These seem like minor updates. I will wait another 6 months before I buy a Macbook and suffer with my G4 Titanium book.

Just kidding, have fun with the book.

Anyone notice that if you upgrade to the 160GB 7200rpm HDD, the ship time goes from 1-3 days to 4-6 weeks. Sheesh.

Edit: Interesting. It only does that on the high-end 15" model. Not the 17" model.

The 15" has an LED screen but the 17" doesn't. The 15" now has 6 hours of battery life.

Where are you getting this from?

Does anyone else think the pictures they're putting on the MBP screens on apple.com are absolutely hideous and very un-:apple: ?

EDIT: Ah, thanks for the explanation. 6 hours of battery life? Now that IS exciting. Pictures on apple.com, still hideously ugly.

Wow!

These updates (the 15-incher) make me really wanna sell my 1 year old MacBook and pick one of these babies up.

Anybody looking for a Black MacBook? ;)

The confusion about the LED displays is that is says nothing about them in the store section. You have to check the actual page about the MBP to see it.

Also, these specs are pretty awesome. Everything I asked for pretty much.

Thats funny, on the german apple site there is no mention of backlit led whatsoever.

Great update, and they lowered the price in the Finnish store :)! -100e. Now, to decide between the 1.899 model vs. 2.499 model....
