These updates (the 15-incher) make me really wanna sell my 1 year old MacBook and pick one of these babies up.

Anybody looking for a Black MacBook? ;)

What are the specs and price you're asking? :D

I think the bump to 2 GB RAM standard is a great move. I just wish there was a 13" ultraportable in the line-up ... but then again, they might be concerned with overlap with the MB line .... oh well!

Haha woops...I didn't see LED-Lit Screens in huge letters on Apple's site, so I assumed it wasn't there. Then I read the press-release. Either way, my top-end 15" has been ordered with 2-3 day shipping. It will be here by the 13th!!

My problem is ...

Do I go for the low res, high-end 15" with LED

or

the high-res 17"

The choices....

Anyone notice that if you upgrade to the 160GB 7200rpm HDD, the ship time goes from 1-3 days to 4-6 weeks. Sheesh.

Edit: Interesting. It only does that on the high-end 15" model. Not the 17" model.

Wait, what? Where did you see that? Mine still says 1-3 business days. I'm about to order.

I guess the bottom line here is that this is an interim model. The case needs an update (user replaceable HD, mag catch), the screen needs to be higher res (when Leopard is released), there needs to be a smaller version :). My money is on January.

The new 4GB limit of memory is nice though.

Hmm..how odd. In the Developers store, upgrading the hard drive to the 160GB 7200RPM model does not change the price of the high end 15" ($1,999) despite the fact it says add $120. Upgrading to the 200GB 4200RPM HD subtracts $50 from $1999. Even upgrading the ram to 4GB is not the noted add $600 but rather $480.

I'm surprised they managed to release LED displays without bumping the prices. Very nice.

Just ordered the 15" from the UK store. 7200 drive added 3-4 weeks to delivery estimate. I also went with 4 gigs. I don't mind waiting, and I have the cash to blow away.

I'm a happy man.

Yes, only criticism is the 128 VRAM - if it was 256 I would have bought instantly.

Now I'll have to wait for a refurb 256 or get one on Ebay - duh - soooo stingy and mean.

So it looks like a speed boost, and video card upgrade. Is it as good an update as people hoped?

Wow, the 17" model gets 1920 x 1200 resolution!!

And the new models support 4gb memory!

Solid updates...but I'm going to wait for preinstalled Leopard. Maybe they'll bump the 15" resolution by then too.

What I don't get is (at least according to the apple website) even though the machine has an 800mhz bus it still has 667mhz ram.

Because it really isn't that much of an update... and as I thought... santa rosa was a joke to begin with, doesn't seem to offer that much over the last model. Minor update, like the MacBooks

I say keep it as a second machine.

Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet:D :D

Apple, I'm still loving you!!!!!!!!

Great specs!!!:apple:

I still love apple but this is what all those whiners were waiting for...?

A minor speed increase, slight improvements across the board, just like the MacBooks. Maybe the graphics card junkies will love the nVidia chips inside, but other than that and the LED displays, nothing else is really amazing about these books. If I had waited months for an upgrade to buy, I would be pissed right now, glad I didn't wait to buy though, so I am happy that Apple did finally catch up with the rest of the computing world.

For all those that waited, you may begin your spending.

holly **** 2g ram default? if it is close to mac pro, that will be great.
that is cool
benchmark please.

I wonder if the brick and mortar Apple stores will carry the 17" MBP with the hi-res screens?

I would love to drive to DE to get the new 17" with the edu discount and no sales tax.

This isn't the Marketplace, so I guess you'd have to PM me an offer, but I'm sure as heck gonna try hard to sell my baby for one of these, because my first Mac was a PowerBook G4 15" 1.25GHz and well I've been in love with Apple's aluminum laptops since and these specs just make it more intense.

From Apple:
A 2.2GHz or 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. Next-generation 802.11n wireless. Gorgeous upgraded displays. Wickedly fast NVIDIA graphics.

If they had said "wicked fast" I probably would have laughed myself silly! That would be right up there with chowda and the Sox.

Amazon

Any idea when these babies will show up on Amazon. Im hoping that they continue offering those 150$ rebates for the new MBPs as well.

Btw, how much does it cost to upgrade the HD on the lower end 15.4 MBP to 160GB (apple store is blocked where i work)?

Excellent! Also a 160GB 7200rpm drive as an option. How much difference in battery could be expected when using a 160Gb 7200rpm harddisk over a 5400rpm harddisk?
