That's B******. No Santa Rosa, Intel GMA 950, 2GB Ram Max, no standard DVD-Burner. Forget it. This is 100% crap. There goes my first Apple product purchase. They've crippled the entry line with substandard parts in leiu of using the newest available (I'm thinking Intel X3100 here). I'm off now to search out a Windows machine with better specs.

These are solid updates... stop trolling.

I'm not trolling. I've been waiting since November for this update to buy my first Mac. I was ready to order today.

While all other manufacturers are announcing their brand spanking new SR laptops Apple give us this and you call it a "solid update".

I think everyone can agree that this update stinks. Slightly faster, last gen CPUs. Brilliant.

When all comparable laptops are shipping with SR and DVD burners as standard we'll see how "good" this update is, eh?

If Apple had went with Santa Rosa, they wouldn't have used the turbo memory option anyway. So what would have been the point? Just the better GPU, for at least $100 more cost for Apple? They made the right business decision, which in return is seldomly what geeks want.
But seriously, if you want all the features go buy a MBP. If you can't afford that, tough luck. ;)

aww its only an update for macbooks T_T

back playing pokemon diamond im sure an update for the ipod would come soon. and now im excited for that to come! XD

Until they fit a DVD writer as standard - it isn't. There are PC laptops out there for half the price of the base spec with DVD writers included. When you sell the package as being for home media, then take away the ability to write DVD's - something is wrong.

I bought the cheapest macbook as a refurb last week - love it to pieces - but I still thing Apple are screwing their customers by not including DVD-writers in every model.

Doug

Agree 100%. I think it is just pathetic to sell a notebook without a DVD+-RW drive these days. The price difference between Combo and DVD+-RW drives is almost none. Apple just wants to make everybody pay $200 more for something, which should have been alreade included.

£50 reduction on UK prices :)

Faster and cheaper - I smell a rat. They have thrown faster chips into the old MB shells to shift units before they go fully LED across the range in June.

The black Macbook appears to be cheaper than it was in the Belgian store. €1449 now, it was €1519 before.

Where's the MBP at?

Hopefully it's still coming today. Finland store surprisingly only has 2 Macbook models for sale (lowend white and the blackbook), so perhaps Apple is playing tricks with us and will release more models later today.

There was a rumor about 5 new models, so if there are only 2 MB's, then what are the 3 others? Macbook Mini and two Macbook Pro's perhaps?

You didn't find out about an update until yesterday, so don't even bother with that. I think you'll find out the MR regulars think this update is a decent one.

That's it i'm buying a Sony. Farewell Macrumors.

Goodbye.

Apple MacBook: Yesterdays technology at today's prices.

EVERYONE would've been happier had they stuck with 1.8 and 2.0 and gone with Santa Rosa. Now the graphics, CPU and chipset on the MB will be a generation behind every other laptop for the next 6 months.

Good work Apple. Idiots.

As someone waiting to buy their first Mac I am FURIOUS with Apple and their continued raping of MB buyers.

The MBs are the line of computers that will benefit most from SR and Apple do THIS? I actually cannot believe it. They are absolute bastards.

Don't you think that a better word would be disappointed? I don't know how you can actually be filled with anger because apple didn't release exactly what you thought they would.

Jebus Chrust, you people want the world...

Waaaahhh, no ultra portables!
Waaaahhh, on-board graphics!
Waaaahhh, no new MacPros!
Waaaahhh, only a Combo Drive!

Please, people, get real. It's an update. Maybe not a big one, but it's decent. A lot more for your money. Same prices, but better Hard Drives, Memory, and speeds. Bitching and complaining aren't gonna make your wishes come true, and you've got to admit, some of your wishes are pretty far out there.

Honestly, I think it funny that people are complaining because they're the same people who complain regularly about a LACK of updates.

At some point, people need to stop comparing the MacBook and MacBook Pro to 'every other laptop out there'. The claims that in months the MacBook is gonna look like crap because 'every other laptop out there' has Santa Rosa are unfounded. The claims that Apple is overcharging for 'yesterday's technology' compared to 'every other laptop out there' are also unfounded. Look at Dell.. Sure they just introduced some new Santa Rosa laptops, but their bottom end is AMD Sempron and Core Duo (not Core 2 Duo). Gateway still sells computers with P4s in them... *that* is yesterday's technology.

Apple's entry pricepoint is higher than these other manufacturers and that is an area where you can complain, but if you compare feature for feature the MacBook to things in its price range, it's really not a bad deal at all.

If the MBP gets updated w/o Santa Rosa, that would be a shame because like every other PC manufacturer, the high end should always have the latest and greatest, but this MacBook update is none to shabby.

Please go and buy a Dell then, they will care for you, yeah...

Sounds like Apple stole your virginity there buddy. Yeah... it's Apple's fault they didn't make your dreams come true man.... get pissed at them all you want but the fact still remains that you are the one that fu*ked yourself for expecting something from Apple other than a paltry update. Like us Mac users expected Microsoft to stop putting out a ****** OS and for Linux to have an actual vision and drive for the future...

Yet again people got themselves into a frenzy of expectations over what was possible, rather than look at it from Apple's point of view as a business focused on deliverying a good product while making money. Also a lot of people have no idea how santa rosa would have benefited them, and obviously don't understand the market Apple is aiming the macbook at.

I agree that the Superdrive is missing from the bottom model but then how many people would buy the middle version if the small one had it included? Right, none.
Again, it is a smart business (money) decision but this time I think Apple should go ahead and include it anyway and drop the middle model. I think actually offering some value goes a long way with customers.
And note I said value, not include the bleeding edge technology.

Well, what are we always telling people? If you want a computer, buy it _now_. If you were waiting since November, you could have enjoyed a MacBook for the last six months.

Have fun with all the viruses, crashes, and Wintel crap. Better "specs" doesn't make a better computer.

No ultraportable.

Keep that handy. There's not going to be one. The MacBooks are portable enough.

This isn't it, the store isn't back up yet this is just the macbook page. The Macbooks are too close in specs to the MBPs, meaning they must be done today too.

Don't remember the late PPC days? The iBooks and the PowerBooks were so close in specs that many people opted for a 14" iBook rather than a 15" PowerBook.

This is all bullocks ...

It's a MacBook, NOT a MacBook Pro!!
You cannot expect everything MBP-users pay for at the price of a MB!
Same goes for future updates. They will never be state-of-the-art, completely up-to-date machines.

MBP's will be the first ones to see the new technology. It has (almost) always been that way, and don't hope on it changing anytime soon.

don't really care 'about that... I was also hoping for an Airport Express upgrade to 802.11n but that didn't happen either...
