It is not over until the JAPAN store comes online. It is Japan's market that's not buying MacBooks/Pro's because they are used to Ultra-Portables mainly.

MACBOOKS ARE PREHISTORIC TECHNOLOGY AT CURRENT TECHNOLOGY PRICE

So the Uk store was up and now its down. I honestly can never remember Apple ever doing that before.
Even if traffic was heavy it can't match the load they suffered during release of the new Mac Pros or the Intel switch or iPod or...etc.
Is the US store back down again?

They have lost half a day's trading in the UK with all these updates. Although I guess they might make up for it if the new MBP gets released.

And now the damn store is down so I can't check out the UK prices (just adjustments for the exchange rate, but welcome nevertheless).

the store wasn't down earlier when the new Macbook was posted... i was on the store looking at prices for the new item... and i noticed their "order now" button didn't work... maybe they're just fixing their macbook store site (and not releasing new MBPs)

*runs and hides*

Nope they're posting the new 52 inch" Apple Cinema Display for use with the mac mini...

Seriously, if the store is down again.. Maybe some updates could be realised. I mean updating you're 13 inch range where the fastest model is better in specs as a MBP... Won't be that solid business decision, so I think there still is a 'chance' for some other updates...

Like the 52 inch" Apple Cinema Display!

I'm not trolling. I've been waiting since November for this update to buy my first Mac. I was ready to order today.

While all other manufacturers are announcing their brand spanking new SR laptops Apple give us this and you call it a "solid update".

I think everyone can agree that this update stinks. Slightly faster, last gen CPUs. Brilliant.

When all comparable laptops are shipping with SR and DVD burners as standard we'll see how "good" this update is, eh?

This is Apple's low-end laptop. You weren't waiting for MBs, you are waiting for the MBP update. Come on, did you really expect the MB to surpass the MBP?

If you've been waiting six months you can wait one more. Quit yer whinin' :D

I'm surpirsed Apple has not bumped up the MBP to Santa Rosa already. I have the latest Generation Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro and it is pleanty fast for me, but for the sake of staying competitive Apple really should jump on the SR train. Heck, even Lenovo has updated their line and they used to be somewhat of stragglers with updates in the past. Then again, maybe the SR platform will be primed for Leopard (I know the flash memory utilizaiton has heped Vista a lot) and that is why they are holding them until WWDC. I'm just glad I bought my MBP a few months back so I have been able to enjoy it instead of worrying about updates all the time :p

Maybe they launching them in waves so as to get more diggs. But if the MB update was underwhelming, then it seems foolish to expect an MBP update at all, let alone hope for one that would be just as anti-climactic.

NO... I refuse to believe you!

The MBP will have a 250GB HDD @ 5400 rpm a Gig of GPU memory up to 4GB of RAM and 8 cores in the 17" model. If they dont do it in the next four minutes I am going over to Crazy Mouses House and looking at Vista boxes with him.

LOL. The sky is falling!!! The sky is falling!!!

What people appear to be missing is that the MacBook was the last Apple machine to get a form factor update. A minor update for this is perfect before an event such as WWDC, where a new form factor for another model can be unveiled. And Santa Rosa in the MacBooks before the MBPs?? Behave. Keep watching people. Just a few more weeks to go.

:D

I hope there is truth to this because for those of us waiting on updates for iMacs and Mac mini's, updating the Macbooks again is twisting the knife a little.

Maybe some of us don't like the size, the keyboard or the aesthetics of the MBP?

I can easily afford a MBP, but I don't want one. Why should Apple force me to buy one?

Apple isn't forcing you to do anything. They just offer different product with different pricepoints. It's your job to determine that which of the suits your needs. If Apple doesn't provide a laptop that you find suitable... tough. Such is life. But just because they are not offering you a suitable product at suitable pricepoint does NOT mean that they are "forcing" you to do anything.

What are you talking about? We've all known SR has been coming for almost a year, and I've been on this forum a lot of that time saying how I'm going to buy a MB as soon as they get SR.

It seems that you have to wait a bit longer then. Tough.

This isn't PPC land anymore. Apple have to keep up with the Joneses. This update certainly doesn't cut it.

Well, that's too bad.

And one thing keeps disturbing me. Usually Apple PR has been very typo-free, but currently apple.com/pr page dates today's news as "May 5". Very strange.

This isn't it, the store isn't back up yet this is just the macbook page. The Macbooks are too close in specs to the MBPs, meaning they must be done today too.

No, they wont. The image file on top showing the macbook family shows the new MBs with the old MBPs - I hardly think they will upgrade that image twice. I think the MBP will se a much larger (LED) revision and therefore Steve would want to show it on stage at WWDC.

No SR - that's ok. I'm still buying a MB today.

Y'all have fun with Sony and Dell - I'm ditching my D800 as I order.

The thing is that the store isn't fully updated yet. The headings say 'starting at 2.0GHz' but in the article below you still see 1.83GHz. Guess they aren't finished yet.

Apple MacBook: Yesterdays technology at today's prices.

EVERYONE would've been happier had they stuck with 1.8 and 2.0 and gone with Santa Rosa. Now the graphics, CPU and chipset on the MB will be a generation behind every other laptop for the next 6 months.

Why? What do you think Santa Rosa would give us that it's worth sacrificing 200 MHz?

Compare this to Lenovo's N100 with 14.1" screen. They have a larger screen, the same Intel graphics 950, a slower 1.66 GHz processor, 512MB RAM, 80GB hard disk, and a 677 MHz FSB - not santa rosa. Oh, and it also includes a combo drive. All that for $929 or $829 after rebate.

You can get better - you can get the Santa Rosa at 1.8 GHz on a 15.4" for just $1100 dollars. This also includes an Intel x3100 graphics accelerator, and includes a DVD burner, but doesn't include 802.11n. It's a matter of taste whether this is better, but it's probably a better value than the MacBook, until you consider that it doesn't run Mac OS X.

Point is, the PC industry is not "moving on". They're offering a whole range of options, some as new as the Santa Rosa, some as old as the celeron-M. Apple has a narrower range, and they're choosing the technology for you.

This is all bullocks ...

No, this is all Bullocks:

This is perfect for me, I have been waiting to buy the midrange Macbook, because I was hoping that the RAM and HD would be bumped up. I didn't want a BTO box if I didn't have to get one, for warranty purposes.

I would have liked the GPU bump that Santa Rosa would have provided, but I can live without it.

COME BACK UP, APPLESTORE!!! PLEASE TAKE MY MONEY!

i agree... was just trying to tease the passionate ones... after all, besides the macbook being way too close in specs to MBP with this update, the recent rumors state 5 new models... i'm kinda hoping for the mini myself (as well as the MBP)
