hey team,
i've been watching this (and the other) thread develop over the last hour.
during that time, the aussie apple store has been offline completely, and apple have pdated the specs on the australian site, as well as dropping the price on the macbooks.
so far.
i just wanted to say these things:
1 - now, the top of the range macbook is better in some regards (hard drive, optical drive) than the entry macbook pro, whereas before these specs were equal. apple appear to have finished updating the macbooks, but the store is still down (or, in some cases, down for the second time in an hour). i think this is because
2 - we can reasonably expect some sort of update to the macbook pros, at least to better the macbook updates. take this with a grain of salt, because i saw a simple suggestion like this made over an hour ago turn into everyone expecting santa rosa updates and five colours for all macbooks and macbook pros, and just look what actually happened, people, this is a rumor site. you are advised to take everything here with a grain of salt.
(so quit complaining already. apple didn't even say they were updating anything. you all assumed!)
3 - i work for an apple reseller in australia, and we have access to a stock report from apple, basically so we can give rough eta's to customers wanting to order out of stock or custom build machines. now, we ran out of stock on imacs and macbooks this week, and we're very, very low on macbook pros. we have many orders for all these items, and apple normally deliver on orders extremely efficiently. also, the stock report does not say when new stock can be expected for any of these items. normally, that only happens to one or two units (not the whole product line at once) for about 12 hours, when it's then updated because the factory has put out a whole bunch of fresh ones. when a product line is updated, e.g. macbooks, all models in that line do not give expectations for new stock. for the last 4 days, macbooks, macbook pros and imacs have all been missing new stock expectations. this is not hard evidence in and of itself of an update, but given that the macbooks have just been undated, and that we've been out of stock on these models for a little while, says to me that it's not a bad climate to keep your fingers crossed.
4 - i can't stress this enough, because you have no idea what apple is about to do, and neither do i. **don't hang your hopes and dreams on unannouced updates**
