What could be changed all it does is charge at 15w what would a firmware update do or change can’t understand it, at least apple should let us know

Does anyone actually use these? If so, why and how to you like it?
I use them. I have one stuck to my desk and another in car stuck to a magnetic windshield mount with the cable hidden in the left pillar so I can just snap phone to it and have GPS display at eye height on left side by pillar.

Benefits are its easy to always be topped off on power cause I jsut drop phone and pick up. Also im not wearing down the lightning port. Sometimes the phone can say it won't charge cause phone detected water in lightning port by error. not a problem with the MagSafe. eventually the lightning port will fail or get clogged with something. Since I plan to keep phone for 5 years I prefer to MagSafe it most of the time.

I like to have phone mostly charged because this year I had a medical emergency and phone died while I was calling 911. It was a life and death situation and after that I dont keep my phone on low battery. Still makes my stomach turn when I think about it.

First thought was a joke but I just went round and updated my 3 MagSafe chargers

Plugged into MacBook Pro for 5mins then checked and was updated to new Firmware version ???

Never saw the 10MM229 update that Macrumors and others have reported. I saw, as most of you, an update version of 247.0.0.0. It updated almost instantly once connected directly to the USB-C port of my MacBook Air. The iPhone stops charging for a few seconds and then begins the charging process once update is complete.
The other thing that I noticed, after the update, is that I began watching a 2160P video on YouTube (Charger on the iPhone) and the MagSafe Charger began turning OFF and ON at a reasonable rapid pace. Anyone else?

I suspect the firmware update is a collection of bug fixes and/or improving compatibility.

But it would be neat if the update can work with iPhone's Optimized Battery Charging feature to intelligently reduce the charging speed. That reduce heat and increase the battery health.

247.0.0.0 in mine

too bad it has the form of an IP address
why does the article state a totally different form for the firmware number?

btw, it's plugged into a Monterey 12.0.1 mac.

What bug fixes it just works it charges lol there wasnt any bugs

Which seems weird, since I wonder how many people will ever connect this way? I have 2 of them, but both are exclusively used with power bricks. I guess I'll plug each into my Mac this evening to see if that updates them. I currently plugged the one I have with me directly into the USB C port on my work HP PC just to see if somehow that will update it....I doubt it, but just curious.
Yeah, I have mine on a brick and that didn’t update.

As soon as I plugged the MagSafe puck into the USB C port of my Mac laptop, it updated. *shrug*

I love mine. Here’s how I mostly use it:

The MagSafe puck is situated on my nightstand next to my bed. I find it much easier to use for using the iPhone while lying in bed and wanting it to charge because I can position the tail of the wire any which way, whereas if I use the Lightning port, the tail end has to protrude in a certain way and depending on the angle, it could create a lot of strain on the Lightning port and Lightning plug.

I got 2 updates. First from 171 to 174, then from 174 to 247.

The 247 actually took at least a minute, I was messing in settings and I saw the MagSafe detach from the phone then re-attach with the new version.

Figured out the trick. Disconnect the puck from your iPhone, plug it into your Mac, then attach the iPhone. Then it works.

Wasn't working for me when it was attached to a 2nd cable to extend the length, and it didn't work if I left the phone attached while plugging into the Mac.

What could change, I mean it only charges I can’t understand how a firmware upgrade is needed
The charging is dynamically adjusted - for instance the phone will suggest to lower how much power is being transferred if the battery gets close to full or if the phone starts to overheat.

Because of the potential of overheating, it also will typically ramp up power rather than going straight to 15W.

From 174 to 247 by connecting to the USB-C port on my iPad Mini 6. I first tried connecting to my Macbook Pro 14" and that didn't seem to affect the fw version.

Ok...um. I'm today years old when I realized the charger gets a firmware update.
(Still trying to update AirPods Pro....guess these will update by Jan 1. ??‍♂️)

I've had one since the day they were available, so I'm interested in what is in this update.
