I have had mine plugged into the wall all the time. It hasn't updated the firmware but each morning, my phone is fully charged. I am not sure I would notice much difference on a morning if anything changed. Not bothered to tell the truth.
Until yesterday, I had never used one. I had been using Qi charging and twice woke up to my phone almost dead. I saw the MagSafe charger on sale on Amazon and bought two. Last night was the first run. I have a shortcut to turn off the charger when the phone hits 100%. I woke up to my phone being 87%, which was fine.Does anyone actually use these? If so, why and how to you like it?
They updated this afternoon sometime to 247.0.0.0, I didnt do anything special, just kept them plugged into the wall and topped up my phone.I have had mine plugged into the wall all the time. But why would we need anything besides a wall charger to update? I have a 20w USB C charger where my MagSafe charger is plugged into and it still won't update from 174Ever since reading this thread I assumed that either I'd have to wait to get a iPad or Mac with USB-C, or a USB-C wall wart to plug into to get the update to happen since it didn't appear to want to update for the past couple days plugged into the USB-C port on my powered USB hub and my old iMac doesn't have the ports.
Well about 5 mins ago I randomly heard the connection/charging tone from the puck. Went in and checked and it indeed finally updated OTA. No need for a Mac, iPad or wall wart. Just a cheap Amazon 3rd party hub will do the trick.
It needs the internet from a device, I don't think it has an internal wifi antenna and is able to sync the password with your deviceBut why would we need anything besides a wall charger to update? I have a 20w USB C charger where my MagSafe charger is plugged into and it still won't update from 174
The little trick to get the update is to plug the MagSafe charger directly into a Mac USB port, or apparently an iPad USB-c port. leave it there a few minutes and the update will install it self.
Apple today released updated firmware for the MagSafe Charger that's compatible with iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 models that have magnets inside. The new firmware is version 10M229, up from 9M5069. Note that in the Settings app, you'll see a version number rather than the firmware number. The new version is 247.0.0.0, and the old one was 174.0.0.0.

The MagSafe Charger initially came out in fall 2020 alongside the iPhone 12 models, and it has previously seen at least one firmware update.
Because firmware updates are done quietly over the air, Apple does not provide release notes, so we do not know what new features or bug fixes might be included in the software.
There is also no clear method for updating a MagSafe charger's firmware, but it needs to be plugged in and connected to an Apple device for a firmware update to initiate.
You can check your MagSafe Charger's firmware by following the instructions in our MagSafe Charger how to.

The next update will address the cable lengthApple needs to release a MagSafe charger with a 2m cable. Considering how serious they claim to be with this technology, how does a 2m version still not exist?
Wait so you think the update to the MagSafe charger is direct? Like the AirPods I’m sure the iPhone gets the update and transfers it to the device. It needs the internet from a device, I don't think it has an internal wifi antenna and is able to sync the password with your device
Okay so are you saying the update can only happen via a usb c connection and not wirelessly? Others have said they got the update without any usb c intervention. Just normal charging. Mine hasn’t yet updated and I have no usb c device to connect to.The little trick to get the update is to plug the MagSafe charger directly into a Mac USB port, or apparently an iPad USB-c port. leave it there a few minutes and the update will install it self.
Oh nice. Is that with a smart outlet?Until yesterday, I had never used one. I had been using Qi charging and twice woke up to my phone almost dead. Wonder if you connect it to a windows laptop it will update.
No, a Windows laptop will not work to update the MagSafe charger firmware.
And the reason why? Are you saying only an Apple device can update that charger? Is in tied to an Apple ID? So many questions for those of us (me) who don't have access to a usb c Apple device. Do I need to walk into an Apple store and plug it in?No, a Windows laptop will not work to update the MagSafe charger firmware.

I doubt we see any thing like that. AirPods been around for years and nothing ever comes out about them for firmware.Don't bother with such statements until a supporting proof of statement is provided.

No it won't. Apple will simply push you towards the MagSafe duo charger. The Apple watch charger with 2m cable was also quietly discontinued. I wonder why.The next update will address the cable length
I tried plugging into a Windows 10 laptop to update the MagSafe charger. It doesn't work. Good luck finding your "proof".
