Hey...hold on...anyone smell that? Oh, must be what AC_99 was talking about. Why would you even mention anything about a new PB if you were at all concerned with NDA/people getting mad? Maybe because you don't have a new PB.

I´m not under Apple NDA or whatever that is...
Just have to check with my people if it´s cool that I post it. :)
Hold on, pictures will come....

Did it ever occur in your tiny heads that apple isn´t the chip maker, and that somebody else might do the chip work on those pbs? :)

Oh just get on with it and post a picture. I want to believe you, heck lot's of us here want to buy a 7448 PowerBook. You've said this much already, a picture is not going to hurt, right?

If you haven't posted a picture yet, you're never going to. As I said, it's a simple task that takes 10 seconds to accomplish. The fact that you couldn't come up with proof when it is so easy to do is proof right there that your claims are false.

The fact that you don't even know what an NDA is doesn't help your case either.

Of course Apple isn't the chip maker, Apple doesn't make chips. The 7448 which you claim to have is manufactured by Freescale, we all know this. The fact that you're not even well-versed on what you're claiming is further proof of the nature of your claims. Nice try.

HAHAHA, I don't know why people bother. Don't get me wrong, I would be more pumped on a bumped PB than anyone else. I actually want this guy to have one as it would mean that they are close be being available or whatever, but there is no way this kid has anything. Someone who is able to have access to a prototype powerbook would definitely know and understand the Apple NDA agreement.

"Pictures will come... " if and when he has time to get someone else to photoshop them for him. What's the point ???

So if its not Apple, whose "my people"? That means that Apple not only released a Beta Powerbook to more than just a few people, they gave it to some other organization who gave it to this guy!?! Doesn't sound like something Apple would do to me.

Thanks Melkor. ;)

Yes, the whole thing is really quite pathetic, yet amusing. I may have been born at night, but it wasn't last night...

I suggest we just move on now, he's obviously just seeking attention, so we shouldn't continue to give him what he wants. Give him some time to Photoshop some images which we can subsequently pick apart, but otherwise, anyone who insults our intelligence doesn't deserve any more time or effort spent on these foolish endeavours.

(Now watch him come back and say he won't post any pictures because we'll just call them fakes anyway... ;))

well, to be honest... I'm still waiting on the computer.
I was supposed to get it on monday. now it's gonna take some time... it's simply just an overclocked mac. :) regardless, it also has the 7448 chip in it... just to prove it to you guys that it works. it IS a beta, not from Apple though. So not ny NDA for me ;)

take care boys
I will post pictures...

0423379, you do realise that even if you post a picture of you stealing a PowerBook from under Steve's pillow late at night, with the System Profiler clearly showing that it's a 7448, not many people here will believe you. :(

Of course not many people will believe him now - he's just changed his story after being caught by us, and lost even more credibility (not that he had much to start with.) He needs to learn that people don't like it when you insult their intelligence with silly juvenile games like this.

 Warning: Conspiracy Theory!

I submit for your review that 0423379 is actually Steve Jobs:
1) "Teddy" was Steve's nickname as a child
2) 07 is for all the luck Apple has had with the iPods
3) x, OS X

And as such, Steve is messing with us with this 1.92GHz PowerBook. Would Steve be bound by the NDA?

This is why I should probably not post before having some coffee in the am... Have a great day in Rumorland!

I don't have verticle lines on my display, but when my PB is connected to an external display, I get major verticle lines on the other display. I know it's not the display b/c it works just great on my PC. Any info?

I will believe him :D

For some reason, when I turn on my computer now, I see a funky "spasm" of lines, really quickly, before it goes on to the usual stuff. No biggie but kind of ugly. Anyone know what that's about?

I don't have horizontal lines, but what I do have are discreet smudge prints when viewing the screen at an angle from above. They look as if the screen is bumpy and stressed...much like what happens to the LCD screen when you press hard from the other side of the lid.

I compared it to my friend's new PB too and he didn't have any. I still wonder if they are just my finger prints, but I have hardly touched the screen ever since I received my PB 2 weeks ago. Any one have similar findings?

The Kensington ram is gauranteed, and though not as name-brand as Crucial it is PRETTY cheap. Unfortunately I read on apple.com/disussions that the Kensington ValueRam will make the system act erratically. Any truth to this? Here's the link.

make sure they meet the cas latency requirements. then you should be fine... and yeah, make sure they meet the cas latency requirements at LOW voltage too... and not 4.4 volts ;)

mongoos15, you will not simply "be fine" if the RAM meets the CAS latency requirements, so let me explain so that you don't make a potentially bad decision based on 0423379's advice...

The Kingston RAM you have listed above is not Kingston's Mac-compatible RAM, it is their ValueRAM PC Generic (KVR-) series, which is not guaranteed for Macintosh. These guys apparently do not make a claim of Mac compatibility.

Kingston Apple RAM (the KTA- series) is good RAM; but the KVR- series is a risk as to whether it will work or not in your PowerBook.

If you are buying RAM online, my advice is to choose a reputable vendor who tests and guarantees compatibility with your model Mac, hise a lifetime warranty and offers a no-cost return for refund if it doesn't work. This would not include NewEgg, Fry's/Outpost or most PC discounters, who don't offer a Mac compatibility guarantee.

If you are a Mac expert and want to take the risk of using PC Generic RAM in hopes of saving a few bucks (versus perhaps wasting money and time on shipping it back), that's up to you. But I just want to make sure you have all the facts and know the risks before making a purchase.

Definitely good advice overall, though I have actually had the opposite experience. I wanted to get a 1 GB DIMM when I got my powerbook 1 1/2 years ago, and decided to go with Other World Computing, purchasing the Samsung RAM that Apple uses in their BTO configs for a hefty markup over generic RAM. They sent me 2 bad DIMMs before the 3rd finally worked without random kernel panics. It cost me extra money to exchange the DIMMs from OWC (they didn't pay for return shipping on the exchange) and a lot of extra time. 6 months ago I wanted to get another 1 GB DIMM and I got a generic Kingston DIMM from outpost.com for $100. I put it in, and it has worked flawlessly.

Thanks for sharing your experience - obviously everyone has a different story. My above advice is simply common sense and fact with regards to the Kingston RAM in question, but hey, again, if you want to take that risk and if it works out for you, that's great. Just don't complain if it doesn't. ;)
