2.5 ship date

I ordered my 2.5 from CDW the morning they were announced and got on the list at number 6. My rep just updated my ship date to 7-19.. 13 more days to go!

I added 3 gigs of ram from CDW, so we'll see if that delays things at all. I opted for the brilliant savings on the 23", and the monitor shipped right away. It's hooked up to my Powerbook, but I can't wait to see what FinalCut does on the 2.5!

The new displays look nice, but the $500 was worth it to me. The thing that I wish I had was the -5 degree swivel and the firewire ports.

They ARE shipping

If Apple was going to upgrade the low end of the PMacs it would've done it at the WWDC, it doesn't seem right to upgrade a product right after it's been upgraded... Well at least, upgrading it before it even ships.

My question was in reference to the LOW and MID level powermacs. Both of these are shipping. Resellers even have plenty of them in stock here in Portugal. (A first). Plus, they wouldnt be ugrading anything "right after it's been upgraded". The processor speeds in both the models I was referring to haven't changed in a year.

7-19???????

BLAH!!!!!!!!!

I wish Apple would update my ship date. I ordered my powermac at 9:04 AM the day they came out and I still have 7/30.

What now ?

Oh my god , I just called my mac reseller to ask how my 2.5 was doing. Just curious about the delays for the arrival and she said she had to call apple first.

She called me back and said it would arrive this week!!! I asked in disbeliev if she ment a 2.5 and not the other models. She was positive about it.

I orderd the day they came out but this seems awfull early to me. If she's playin with me I don't know what to do.

I have to force myself to ignore this comment on the basis that if it isn't true, i will be very sad. But if it is true... damn that would be a great surprise! I'm going away next week and can't think of a better way to come home than to my brand new g5 waiting for me.

I have been waiting since october to get a new g5 - i can't believe the wait is almost over.

From my experience, apple does not update the ship date until the the date they estimated you in case it will be late.

I decided not to believe

… the saleswomen on the phone.
I mean everyone here on the forum has a ship date, at the earliest, for the mid or even end of july.
I suppose Luxembourg is not the first country to get delivery.
I think the women just heard of an arrival for this week, I doubt that there will be 2.5 in it.

But, (stomping with foot on floor) she said there would be 2.5 powermacs!

But when she noticed I was so stunned and I must have sounded very excited indeed, she said that, that was what she was told and she would call me if my machine was inside the lot.

Ah damn you, I will have to wait and see.

Be sure to keep us posted, cause if luxemburg got a shipment, than belgium will follow shortly :D

hopefully it'll be in time for my holidays (juli 21th until august 1st)

just out of curiosity, what holiday is that?

oh, and if countries in europe get their 2.5s before I do here in the states, Apple is gonna receive some nasty letters... :p

Well, it's no official holiday, like easter or anything, I took 7 days off from work (still have 13 left), so I'm hoping to be able to play with my new toys during that period, but i'm not hoping too much, unless you guys come in here and shout that you've received yours, than i'll be anxious!

cu later

My reseller here in the UK told me that my 2.5 is due 'in this week'... like you guys, i'm not too sure whether to beleive this or not. I WANT to beleive it, but i'm prepared for a long wait. Been waiting since December for this bad boy but this last few weeks since the announcement has been a real killer... COME ON!!!!! :D

<vent>Why are all you people who bought your comps from a reseller getting sooner ship dates? Meanwhile all of us who bought from the Apple store are still getting.. "mmmm.. yeah it appears as though your computer will ship on or around the 30th." They don't really know...bah!</vent>

This certainly does seem strange. It should be on a first come first serve basis. The location shouldn't matter. Maybe the retailers put their order in ahead of time assuming the upgrade.

My theory is that the people who ordered from the Apple store (like myself) are simply not being told anything as to when our computers will ship. Apple doesn't tell its consumers anything really. The resellers are more likely to pass on information to their customers.

In addition, Apple wouldn't waste its time upgrading the ship date when "on or before 7/30" applies to right now and this week.

I have sent off an email to Apple regarding the ship dates of the BTO 2.5s. Hopefully, they will give me an answer.

I'm sure that we who ordered from the Apple Store will get our computers the same time as everyone else.

I better, because I ordered on the morning of the 9th.

I have a feeling that the resellers are just guessing, or working off some obscure mutterings they may have heard from their apple suppliers. I'm assuming that Apple doesn't have a definite ship date yet, so they aren't going to update their direct orders (like you) until it's set in stone.

Apple isn't going to change your ship date until they know its right - otherwise you'll complain to them (and rightly so!) - "Why did you move up my date and then not ship it out on time?" If Clubmac tells me my machine should be in next week and it isn't, they can just say "Well thats the word we heard from Apple - that's what we thought, but it wasn't definite." That's why i take all this reseller "information" with a very large grain of salt.

Until I see an email from you saying that apple pushed up your date, I don't believe we'll see any new machines before the 30th.

Which reseller is this? It's not Cancom is it? They are always a little optomistic with their delivery dates.

Whookam

I don't know if this means diddly, but I was in an Apple Store last friday buying an iTrip for my new 40giger :) and at the checkout was this lady who appeared to not have been working there very long.

I asked offhand about when the 2.5s would be in, and she whipped out the binder of Apple invoices with ship dates and all the internal Apple Store stuff. The minute I saw it I thought of MacRumors, but I couldn't see anything secret, and as we all know the Apple store doesn't really have any inside info.

Anyways, after checking in the binder, she told me they'd be in the store sometime in mid-july. She sounded pretty confident. So i'm guessing that they will start to ship by the 18th or so.

Now I just hope this applies to all orders, as I ordered mine two days after release!

well, i placed the order with a local business computer company and they in turn placed an order with "apple's biggest reseller in the UK" because they don't deal direct with apple (not my decision i can tell you). I imagine my contact guy was just told that it would be soon and he believed it..... i on the other hand am used to apple's release/delivery antics so wont be expecting it for a while.

I agree though that people that bought theirs direct from apple on the day should obviously get theirs first. I also imagine that i'm in for an extra wait due to living across the atlantic

Shop closed

The Apple online shop is closed. Does that mean something new is coming or are they doing that on a regular basis?

Retailer's marketing

Having a promising date on an unreleased product is way too common. This is a marketing ploy - the retailer wants you to buy from them and not someone else and they will sound confident in their promises to deliver sooner then a competitior - I'll bet $1 that no one gets it any sooner then anyone else (retailer wise).

The retailer needs to put something in the computer for all their highly trained phone force to relay to consumers. Ask for proof and they will say "Well it says so right here on my screen".

I put in that new Video card and my order still says 7/30 but the card itself states late Augues - maybe CTO will be prioritized over stand alone cards... or maybe you will all be bragging about your 2.5's while I wait for mine....

Heck it has been 5 years... what is a few more weeks. :p

I had been speculating earlier in this thread about why Apple was still selling the PowerMac G4 on the Apple Online Store, especially since the G5 has been out for over a year.

Now it looks like the end is near for the PowerMac G4...so anyone who may want to snatch one up before they are all gone better do so soon. Screenshot from the Apple Store:
