8 betas (9 now) and they didn’t fix the fan issue with the MacBook Pro 16-inch when connected to an external monitor. At this point I’m ready to give up and sale this piece of c.... machine.

I'm not sure if the bug is going to be fixed at all. I'm "suffering" as well, and it looks like there is nothing I can do, except buying the MBPR16" with 5600M :|

Menubar spacing is much better now.
My long lasting login keyboard language bug has finally been fixed.

Love it. 🥰

Anyone still experiencing crashing issues with Safari? Also, although I have it set up for apps to open into their dock applications icons, Safari for some reason opens an extra icon in the dock when it is launched. I have submitted this feedback early on in the beta process...

I've had this issue as well. More so the extra app icon.

full installer is now available for download

Looks like they waited for public beta before releasing the full installer of beta 9 to developers.

Here is the updated list of full installers available to developers via software update:

I have the same problem since beta 6...can't update to 8 or 9. Did anyone get this fixed?
[automerge]1601481848[/automerge]

Same here since beta 6...cant even do update to beta 8 or 9....download error
I fixed it. Had the same issue. However, I did a bit of a few things in one go, so am not sure which part exactly fixed it. here goes.

I have a 2020 MBP with T2, what I did was"
  1. Partly reset SMC (only the first part with power button) https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295
  2. Reset NVRAM https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204063
  3. Restart in Recovery mode and remove firmware password and disable Secure Boot (and External Boot) https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208330
  4. Restart and update via System Preferences (didn't try Terminal this time)—it worked!
  5. Restart in Recovery mode and re-enable Secure Boot and External Boot
Hope that works for you—guess the BridgeOS locked some authentication in the T2 chip.

I use my 16" MBP with an LG external monitor and don't have any "fan" issues with beta 8. Machine is pulling about 13W of power connected to the monitor and is totally silent.

Which model of the MBPR do you have? Do you close the lid?

Not remebering menubar icon position (changed by CMD + drag) is quite a deal for me as it means each app I launch after Dozer/Vanilla stars (for hiding icons) will have its icon hidden no matter how many times I drag it to the visible section.
Does Bartender work any better? Just wondering.

Are you suggesting that Big Sur will be Worse than Catalina?
Are you suggesting that it will somehow be *better* than Catalina? Apple's had a year, hasn't been able to get to a workable Catalina. And you think they're somehow going to complete this expansive, far-reaching change in Big Sur and get it right in four months?

No, better. And it will be better mainly because it is pushed by the ARM deployment.
Sounds good, just wasn't sure which way you were leaning with your beta reference, that's why I was seeking clarification.

I have one main issue that I've reported to Apple that showed up as of Beta 8. So hopefully the next beta will have it fixed since i reported it too late for beta 9.

Because I have low vision, I have to use the Zoom feature for reading. What happens is:

when i configure zoom and press command option 8 to zoom in, my zoom level isn't remembered beyond the first zoom per os session e.g. until i reboot, or turn zoom completely off and back on.

If I zoom back in after having zoomed in and I haven't done one of the following above, it zoom in with much smaller magnification. I can still zoom in further, but it's not being remembered, like it should be. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm trying to find out if it's a bug, or just my own system. I reported it as a bug, but that's what it acts like.

That's why I asked for Clarification, because i wasn't sure which way the poster I replied to was going.

I used Catalina since day 1. Yeah, day 1 was f*cked top. But from the .3 version it was all fine. But Big Sur won't be like that, pretty sure. The beta is still beta than the beta of Catalina was.
Catalina 10.15.5 was marginally less broken than 15.6 or 15.7, I'll be re-doing my laptop back to that this weekend. Or maybe 10.15.4... 15.5 had the stupid firmlinks issue.

Interesting that 10.15.5 isn't on that list.

Just downloaded Bartender 4 beta and it works great (and only with Big Sur). Will have to pay upgrade fee when it comes out of beta. I paid now and got 50% discount. It works great and has some nice new features.

Whenever there is a check or other symbol next to a menu item, it doesn't align correctly with the name of the menu:

View attachment 961480

It's a very small detail most people probably wouldn't notice, but being a graphic designer I noticed it right away and it's actually pretty irritating.

It is possible that it's intentional, but it just seems a bit weird to me. I'd prefer it aligned.
It looks intentional now that you've put the screenshots up. Looks like they preferenced the menu items aligning with the menu title over the borders aligning. It's definitely a choice.

Your gonna sell your machine because beta software isn’t ready for production machines? Just think how stupid what you said is.
Even the current production version of MacOS has issues with the 16” fans and hot GPU so perhaps it’s less about the beta version than all the opportunities these betas present to throw a “fix” into and they’ve not.

It looks to me like they've made a decision to make the menu item text aligned with the menu title text rather than have the menu items indented regardless of checks as they did in previous versions (having just had to look how menus are shown in High Sierra). Where there are no checked items I think this is a much nicer look, but the trade off is that when there is a checked item this appears to be forcing expansion of the menu outline out to the left to preserve the text alignment and make room for the check.

They could move the checkmark to the end of the drop down menu.
