Do Not Download 2.0 Update

Many people like myself downloaded the 2.0 Firmware update and now are unable to use our phones. What happens is you get an error message after it installs and then you your phone is locked with an Emergency Calls only. Not only that you cannot use iTunes to restore your settings.

Jeezus Franks & Beans!

It's like Apple broke open the upgrade pinata (or iPinata for fellow MacFanboys) and everyone is scrambling, pushing and shoving to get the candy!

I think I'll sit back, relax and let the feeding frenzy subside. Seriously, it's like watching fashion models attacking the buffet line after their photo shoot. :D

My iPhone Essentially Bricked Right Now

I downloaded FW 2.0 and can't activate it. Between this and the MobileMe fiasco, Apple is showing the world why sticking with one vendor for everything can be a BAD thing.

Here is my picture from ipod touch 2.0 sorry i took picture @ work via my phone!
As i said before more MY ipod touch journey can be found here

Apple screwed up

I guess the update process is buried in demand. I plugged my totally stock phone into my iMac and iTunes showed up and synced. The Update button kept telling me 1.4 was all there was, for a while, then showed me the 2.0 update. But when I let it go, it left me with a bricked phone - emergency use only - and and error (-9838). This is very bad planning. Couldn't I have downloaded the update package BEFORE my phone was wiped? That way it would still work, even if the download failed. WHo knows how long this situation will last.

Apple, I'm an unhappy customer.

I got past the activation procedure but now iTunes is again stuck at connecting to iTunes Store. I dont get the option of restoring my settings...I am furious with Apple....Amateurs do better...

If you have already gone through the sync and restore then eject, the problem seems to be that after the process is completed, it wants to connect to sync apps with the iTunes store. Just too many people hitting the sight at once worldwide. If it happened before your iPhone was restored then hang on and don't eject. But what ever you do, take a chill pill and don't let it affect your health.

lol this is funny, plugged in ipod, said i needed to update but i got error could not connect to store unplugged ipod to backup mac plugged it back in and now it says 1.1.4 is current update lol.

Is it on the last step when it is downloading in the downloads window? I'm so clueless on this.

I just by chance said screw it and hit the check for update button for the 80th time and it said it was out XD what luck, but now i do not know what to do next?

I bet you do, cupcake

I bet you make millions of dollars, drive super cool cars, and fly over rainbows every day.
I don't make millions, just enough to be comfortable. I don't own a car because I live in a city with mass transit. And rainbows? I'll leave those to you. I'm sure you have enough finger paint stockpiled in your parent's basement from which you post. Maybe some day when you get your G.E.D. you'll learn how things work in the real world.

Until then, why not take your weekly shower before you pick up your mop and plunger and head off to work tonight. The rest of your fellow Denny's employees would really appreciate it.

I had this problem, error 9839 (or whatever it was, same as others here) but eventually it got through to iTunes Store and did finish up. It did then give the error -4 just posted by someone, but seems to be fine. It is v2 and is working.

All we did was close iTunes and reopen it from time to time so it kept trying. Someone also posted (what I presumed are) keyboard shortcuts for that earlier.

It really does seem to be just the load on the iTunes servers, so don't worry, your iPhone will recover!!

dont waste your time right now. you are just going to be at the end of the line with all of the errors occouring like every one else. i wish i would have waited.

Too late my buddy just did his went fine with everything, so I'm trying right behind him.

After about an hour, two iphones were updated, no problems.

I think "accessing itunes store" means exactly that: it's actively accessing files and downloading them to your phone. It doesn't seem to mean " trying to connect but doing nothing."

Plug in your phone, grab some coffee, read the paper or go for a walk. You'll return, and your phone will probably be just fine. It happened that way for me (and also this morning for my partner, my kids, my mom, my dad, and my grandmother. Nine phones and they are all fine. Though it's a bit unnerving to see my grandmother using her phone to wave the light saber ...).

I had the 2.0 firmware from yesterday, and made the stupid mistake of trying to restore to the official 2.0 WITHOUT realizing what time it was. Already about 15 minutes into the process... :-(
::sighs::
We'll see...

When I got up this morning and turned on iTunes (at about 7:30 Central time) it said the new 2.0 firmware was available.

I told it to go ahead and start downloading, but then I thought-- "I don't have time to do this before work" so I cancelled the download.

Thank God I did!!

Hopefully this will all get straightened out as the day moves along.

Can you two take your pissing match elsewhere? Thanks.

Everyone should heed your advice! It also reminds me of the money in the sh&% scene in some Monty Python movie whose title escapes me at the moment.

Ouch. I think I hit a nerve. :D

Thank god people like you don't run apple. Would be bankrupt and run out of business. Then again, that is probably why you are still in high school or trying to attain the highly sought after GED

good and horribly bad new feature

Apparently 2.0 adds a new feature when you sync iPhone. Backup. Itunes now automatically backs up iPhone EVERY TIME you sync, making the sync process painfully slow. This sucks if you're in a hurry but then again if something like this ever happens again, it might not be such a bad thing
