Finally working?

While I think it's ridiculous that there was not even as much as a warning just to let current iphone owners know that this process could brick your phone for extensive periods of time, mine appears to be working now.

The method that worked for me was to just sit there for hours and continually clear the error and click on the iPhone menu again. My best advice is to try and have patience

I'm up and ready to ROCK! iPhone EDGE with 2.0 software! It took about an hour for iTunes to re-register it... All is working and all is awesome!

AIM is insane! WeatherBug is awesome! This software rocks! Now, if I could just get an iPhone 3G from a store that has them in stock! I suppose I need to get in the car first to drive around to see what is out there... If anything!

Good luck to all that are trying! Well worth the wait and frustration!

well, mine still says 1.1.4 is the current software. Using iTunes 7.7. Dang!!!!

Same here. Months of waiting for an update and this BS happens. I guess i'm lucky cuz I didn't try earlier and get a bricked phone. All the media outlets are just shellacking Apple over this too. Rightly so. Just wish I didn't own so much stock

ok so i got through the first steps of the update. now i get a -4 error going through itunes. did i just lose all the info on my phone?

Just FYI

I don't know if this has been posted yet, so I'm sorry if it has...

If you've gotten through the activation process, but iTunes still won't let you sync your apps, if you go through the AppStore on the phone, it recognizes what you've already paid for and will allow you to download it onto the phone for free.

Just figured I would pass that along.

Anyone try this downgrade?

I updated my phone yesterday, now I want to get to the official release. I tunes says I am current, when I hit restore it says it will restore to factory settings of 2.0. Which 2.0 is it talking about? The one I did yesterday or the one released today??

I'm In Baby!!!!

Ok, check this out:

I told my wife not to call me on my cell because of this "activation" crap going on and that my phone wasn't working. After another "Network Connection Time" BS, I was just about to do the 2.0 - 1.1.4 Downgrade option. So, I quit iTunes and just when I was about to launch into the iTunes 7.7 - 7.5 downgrade method, when I get a call from my wife. On my iPhone, nonetheless!!!! So, I pick it up and answer it. Talk to her for a minute (asking her of course why did she call me on my phone when I specifically told her not to, etc., etc.). Well, I hang up and lo and behold, I see the "iPhone Activated" screen! All of my settings are set to factory of course as well as none of my items beings synced, BUT I HAVE A WORKING ACTIVATED PHONE PEOPLE!!!

So, my suggestion to anyone that is willing to try is this:
(1) Quite iTunes
(2) Get someone to call your iPhone
(3) See what happens.

I don't know if this will work for anyone else, but it sure as hell worked for me!

Let me know if anyone gets this method to work.

EDIT: A little FYI. I'm on a 1st Gen iPhone upgrading to 2.0. I did the "unnofficial" update last night but noticed the difference in the two sizes of the downloads and wanted to make it an official Apple update.

I did a restore method to get the "official" update when all of the crap started.

While I can not Sync my phone (I still get the "Network" BS message) at least I can make and receive calls now.

Did nothing - just went to my VM

Downloaded and installed the leaked version yesterday played around with it and loved it, a little jumpy however and the sync was not working correctly. Decided to do a restore today with the official version. Finally got iTunes to download the official version thru restore and after about an hour and a half it activated! I did not restore with my backup however, i decided to set it up nice and fresh so as to keep everything clean! :apple:

Yayyy!

I saw the chaos when I woke up this morning, they said "do not upgrade yet!" Of course I didn't listen, it's just like last time. Too much activity for their servers to handle. I unplugged and plugged about ten times and it is working now! I hate to say it, but ya gotta be patient. Apple should have been prepared, possibly releasing in stages (rather than several at once), but I'm not gonna be mad at them. I love my iPhone!:apple:

Didn't download yesterday's firmware. On 1st-gen iPhone. Downloaded and installed 2.0. I can make calls out and receive calls. Contacts and all that on my iPhone. Still can't activate the phone through iTunes though.

So basically I just want to get the Apps on my phone. Any one find a work around>?

Those who don't are stuck but need their phone

Andy Space over at 9to5mac.com posted this:

Temporary fix for iTunes iPhone authorisation blues?
Fri, 07/11/2008 - 11:27 — Andy Space

We've been sent this fix by reader, Will, we haven't tested it. If you are in iLimbo, you may want to try this to get things moving again.

"I called Apple and here are the steps to leave recovery mode:

1. Disconnect phone from computer
2. Hold down the power button & turn phone off
3. Wait around an hour
4. Press the home button, & plug in cable to computer ( don't let go of home button) When itunes comes up & says it finds a phone in discovery mode, then release the button

I tried this and it did what it was meant to, offering me the option to restore; however, I didn't go the whole way and restore it as I want to keep the v2 software till the problem is sorted. However, it may be that someone has a bricked phone and wants to at least make it useable again."

Thanks Andy for the info!

If you use the AppStore on the phone, picking the Apps that you've already purchased will allow you to download them directly from your phone for free.

Once you tell it to "BUY NOW" it will recognize that you've already paid and will ask if you want to download it for free. Say "OK" and the download will start.

I'm in as well, thank God- I'd had a blank (but functional) iPhone 2.0 since around 10AM, when iTunes started to buckle under the stress. I think mine sort of activated half-then- hence the ability to receive calls and look around- and half-now. It's now syncing my music.
