Apple Releases Official iPhone 2.0 Firmware

I'm crossgrading my original iPhone to the official release from the leaked one. It seems to have worked. It's syncing now. I'll let you know.

If you try it right now, you may run into the activation problems that everyone is having, so now might not be the best time.

But I think I am going to recommend everyone go to the official firmware. I'll post about it. The procedure is the exact same as installing the leaked firmware.

How ironic, I just received an e-mail from iTunes spotlighting new videos: Batman Gotham Knight, etc, etc.

Are they laughing at us?

I toggled between the music library and the phone and the store. for the store I waited until the whole front page loaded.

after trying for about 3 hours it is now restoring my music and videos.
hopefully there's no issue once that's complete.

good luck!


oh and for the record my cell service was recently cut off so I don't care about the phone part working.
 
Count me among those who are glad they jumped the gun and installed the firmware that Apple had put out yesterday! :D

I've been using the 2.0 firmware with several free Apps from the App Store since then and love it! I'll upgrade to the release version in a few days when things have died down a bit. I've had one App (Where) crash a few times but since I've had no other issues in any other App I'm betting that has more to do with the App than it does the firmware.

RE: iTunes store server overload.

Apple has to know how many iPhones are out there. In fact, they know EXACTLY how many iPhones are out there. Apple also has gazillions of dollars and just so happens to MAKE SERVERS. Why are they having trouble with this? Why didn't they ramp up their servers for this release? Instead they're probably paying tech support people overtime to tell customers that the servers are overloaded.

Left my mac to watch the news and came back to see 'sync in progres' after 45 mins of trying!!.....Resuuuuuult!! :cool::apple:

I toggled with my music library, because it was faster (didn't have to try to connect to the regular store, which itself is a little slow now for me).

When I got the message that the connection had failed, I simply clicked the OKAY button (or hit return), immediately clicked on my music library, immediately clicked on my phone under devices, and it would automatically try again (after a few seconds) to connect to the store, as shown by the "Accessing the iTunes Store" progress bar drilling at the top of the page.

It was usually 4-5 minutes of the progress bar before it would time out again, give me the network connection message, and I'd repeat the process. Over and over. And over. Finally, it hit, connected, and I was on my way. Hope this helps.

press the home button and sleep at the same time there will be a white flash and it will be added to your picks
 
i loaded the 2.0 software on my original iphone.

no luck this morning. came back to it at 11 and after a few minutes, it's working now.
