yippee after 5.5 hours...finally...activation

Has anyone been able to perform a post-activation sync?

My phone activated but iTunes was still hung up and I got a (-4) error as usual, even though the phone activated.

Now, whenever I plug the phone in, iTunes still wants to connect to the store, instead of just syncing my phone.....

Any thoughts?

I just got in. Earlier I was at my grandma's where they have WildBlue because there is no cable or Fast satellite. It is just fast enough to be called High Speed. Now I am back home so I got in 3rd try.

Phew, finally, connected and activated; I've bought some apps, OMG these games are so fun. This is, without a doubt, absolutely the Wii of phones. Enigmo is utterly blowing me away.

Just so incredibly fun, and there are so many more games today than yesterday on iTunes, I think. And many of them are little games by lone coders, there's so much creativity on display, it's AWESOME!!

Man, THIS is what the iPhone was all about. Now it's the real deal!!!!!!!! FINALLY!!!!!! :)

Finally!!!
After 6 + hours the thing activated!
Now lets see how the restore goes to get my settings back.

Lot of recent successful activations. Looks like Apple may have finally fixed the problem.

Somebody try this..

My phone was half activated. Could call / receive calls, but if I plugged in it still kept saying accessing itunes store.. so couldn't sync

Plug phone in and while it's attempting to access itunes store call your phone from a landline or whatever but don't pickup.

For me while ringing itunes updated and now my phone has finally been synced.

Makes no sense and may do nothing but hey I was at this for 5.5hrs

May have been something. may have just been my 1,232,323,482 try and finally went through.

im willing to try anything at this point....NOTHING!

JK OMG THIS WORKED IT REALLY WORKED! :)

This happened to me, too; after about 15 or 20 minutes, though, it did successfully connect. After that, everything was cool, that was the last time it needed to do its connection thing.

Just keep trying, it'll happen!

Oh, and if you want to get started buying/using apps right away, just use the App Store button on the iPhone instead of iTunes! You can sync your bought apps to your computer later, when you finally get a connection.

Seems like everyone is getting their phones to activate. I'm on 1,2 and really want 1,1 as SMS chat typing is very sluggish. I may have to take the plunge into the upgrade now.

Ok, maybe I'm just totally missing something, but now that I set up the MobileMe account on my iPhone I have zero contacts and zero calendar events! Also, on my macs, they are not "automatically" pushed up to me.com. What gives? I thought changes were supposed to go everywhere and pushed to my iPhone. Right now this kinda sucks because all my contacts are gone on my phone!

I unplugged my phone, powered down (the phone), powered back on, plugged it back in, and it's syncing now.

Its Working!

I just got through, and finally restoring.

Hopefully everyone should be getting up shortly! Good Luck to All!!!!

no better time then now my friend, if anything else you've got good vibes going in, everyone seems to be syncing up quite nicely

Just tried to activate it again from home and it just worked! Good luck to everyone trying to get it activated!

If I upgraded to 2.0 with yesterday's unofficial version and I want to try to get the official version today, can I just use the regular Restore function in iTunes or do I need to download and install today's release?

Thanks that give me peace of mind...

6 hours of "AiS"
2 1/4 hours of smoking ribs...

Is there a link to the official file or will iTunes do this for us automatically? And thanks so much for your help with this.

I'll make an official post soon, but you can download the official firmware here:

http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite...080710.V50OI/iPhone1,1_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw

and use the same process as yesterday (hold option et...)

But, if activations are not working, you won't be able to use your phone until it start working again. Sounds like it's started working though.

Restore in Progress

So my story is I downloaded the leak last night, got it working perfectly, and it was quite fun having 2.0. Woke up, saw that the official version was a bit different, decided to go ahead and get the official. In the middle of installing it, I see all the 'notices' of "Don't Do It!"

dag yo...

Been working on it this morning, just kept trying again and again, and just now got it to work at about 1pm good old mountain time!

So don't lose hope.

It's activated!!!!!!!!!!!

After first updating to 2.0 I wouldn't even get the welcome page in iTunes. After a few attempts I got the welcome page then error -4. I had to leave my iPhone at home as I had to go out to dinner. So had to use an old Motorola.

Now I'm using LogMeIn to remote control my Mac (I'm at a friends house), and finally 2 hours later, iTunes timed out, I quit the app, relaunched it and it went straight in to the activation pages!

Hmmm...so should i restore from backup or setup as a new iPhone? I heard people had problems doing a restore from backup...

I went to do a restore and iTunes came up with an error that the the requested download could not be found. Something about a resource not being available? Does this mean the activation is down?

I had the update downloaded earlier this morning from iTunes but saw everyone's posts and decided to wait to try it....

I come home to do it and it asks if I want to install said update. I say yes, and nothing happens. Now it says 1.1.4 is the latest version.

maybe i'll just try doing it the other way that everyones doing with the option+check button thing...unless someone can tell me otherwise...

Ok folks - an update on the post activation sync issue.

Hi all,

My sync finally worked and I can confirm the following in reference to my previous post:

The iTunes Store appears not to need to be accessed during every sync. For me it was twice - once during activation, then once again during first sync.

The time is still well out of kilter - the home screen is 8 hours behind the clock. Perhaps this is an O2 issue?

The colours of my 2 calendars do not match those in iCal even after a sync.

There seems to be some extra intelligence during sync - at least with reference to the calendar. And there's a new little syncing icon that appears in the top bar. Will try to find a way to exterminate it.

Regds,
Cloud.
Off for a well deserved Guinness or 5.

WTF!!!!

now itunes wont recognize my phone

plus it in. get the chime from the phone but nothing else.....help

done

Phone #1 update complete, including final sync.

Total time: 40 minutes

Number of Times iTunes said 1.1.7 (or whatever the 'old version I had) was 'current': about 5

Number of Times I got the (-4) error: 3

Conclusion? So far, GREAT! :D

(let the Apps rush begin!)
