Finally!

After 6 hours of trying to get my phone to do more than make emergency calls, I finally passed iTunes activation. My advice, leave your phone plugged in to your computer and just let it sit there. Unplugging and re-plugging in your phone is like leaving the middle of the line to go to the back. Maybe I wouldn't have had to wait 6 hours if I'd known that little nugget.

Hey, I went from Newbie to Member. Right on!!

I decided it was an emergency that my iPhone wasn't activated and phoned the fire brigade...

I WANT MY IPHONE BACK

Updated

Finally updated. But the apps will not sync. It says they are not authorized for use on my computer.

Anyone still not seeing the update?

I'm in Minnesota and I still don't see the update in iTunes 7.7. Is there anyone else that is not seeing it either?

It took me 5-6 hours but I am through!!!!! Yes! :D:D:D. People were telling me I was dumb..and everything else but as soon as they saw that calculator flip to the scientific mode they were all saying " what else does it do now???" My advice would be to wait if you havent already started the process. However, if you have already jumped off the cliff, just leave it plugged up like Kenya^ has said and just forget about it. Sooner or later, probably later, you will get through. In the meantime, I'm going to go sync this puppy up. Wooohooo!!!!

Trying calling your phone to activate it

1g iPhone, updated to 2.0 Firmware this morning via iTunes but it wouldn't activate (-4 error in iTunes).

I'd been trying to click back and forth all morning with no luck (-4). I just called my voicemail and to my surprise my phone started ringing and it brought a message up saying it was activated. I did also have it plugged in at the same time if that makes a difference. So....

Two things to try if you have a 1g iPhone and can't get it activated
- Call your own number (i.e. your voicemail)
- Power cycle the phone

I can't find it either. Every time I click "Check for Update" iTunes 7.7 says that my iPhone software (1.1.4) is the newest version available...and I haven't seen it on the iTunes Store.

To answer my own question, I decided to pick restore instead of setting it up as a new iPhone and that appears to have worked. Although looks like i have to re-add all my music, movies etc etc.

Iphone has rebooted and reappeared in iTunes.

Not sure if my O2 sim is working, and haven't actually seen the screen on my iPhone. Don't forget I'm doing this remotely from a friend's via LogMeIn. Will have to find out when I get home!

It's activated!!!!!!!!!!!

After first updating to 2.0 I wouldn't even get the welcome page in iTunes. After a few attempts I got the welcome page then error -4. I had to leave my iPhone at home as I had to go out to dinner. So had to use an old Motorola.

Now I'm using LogMeIn to remote control my Mac (I'm at a friends house), and finally 2 hours later, iTunes timed out, I quit the app, relaunched it and it went straight in to the activation pages!

Hmmm...so should i restore from backup or setup as a new iPhone? I heard people had problems doing a restore from backup...

i downloaded the new itunes and the applications i wanted as well. i hooked my iphone in and it's still saying that 1.1.4 is the latest version!! it's also saying to check back on 7/17/08. if that's true, does that mean i'll have to wait all that time until i can sync all the apps to my iphone???

Finally it showed up.

Keep hitting check for update button. It took me hitting that like 20 times before it said the 2.0 firmware was available.

Im done. I downloaded the leak from yesterday, and i started downloading the official update at around 12. Its now 3:37 and everything is synced and ready. The apps i downloaded yesterday are still on my phone so im glad i didnt lose anything.

So, is there a difference between the OS 2.0 image released yesterday and the one released today?

If not, I'm sticking with yesterdays--I already downloaded some apps and I don't want to have to pay for them twice.

You shouldn't have to pay twice. Sync your phone w/ iTunes and your apps are stored in "Applications." If you wipe your phone, it should just copy them back to your phone again.

Didn't you hear, we Minnesotans don't get the upgrade until they're done with the 35W bridge. :p

I had the same this morning but haven't checked in hours. I figured I would wait for the train wreck to clear first.

no

No, that just means that's when iTunes will do an automatic check for an update, you can still check for updates all you want in the mean time, which you'll probably get it all updated sometime today would be my bet. You can also look previously on this post to download the new firmware manually then use iTunes to install it.... that's what I did :)

go to ipod touch and try downloading from that link when i did it it was trying to get to itunes store and then no error screen popped up it just went back to my ipod touch screen and started syncing that was it still no 2.0

now it says the network timed out

So iTunes wouldn't download the 1,1 firmware so i found it on a link someone posted. I did a restore from 1,2 and 20 minutes later I woke up and it was activated and asking for a back up. I'm pretty sure it was on this screen for a while so I'm guessing my whole process took 15 minutes :)

Where are all you guys getting the iPhone OS 2.0 image?

iTunes tells me version 1.1.4 is the current version.

I didn't even want to update (yet), just wondering...

(I did update iTunes earlier today.)

It finally connected me to the iTunes Store to complete the update. I started this process at 6:50 am, and it is now 12:43 pm. I am just waiting for my music and videos to sync, then I can finally play.

Boo-urns Apple. Boo-urns.
