Doing some more research... nothing I plug into my monitor (Thunderbolt Display) USB ports is getting power... this is really weird. Everything was working perfectly until I did the upgrade.

Try retting PRAM and see if that helps.

Last update on this... sorry. I have no idea what happened but after 40 minutes and three reboots the machine came back to life, finished the installation, and everything is working.

Well, that was an unedifying 'update experience'... I have committed the unpardonable sin of having my home directory on another disk than the system disk. Consequently, the secinitd process seemed to have had a little spasm of trying to repair library permissions after the update, giving rise to a password prompt for each of the affected libraries (hundreds of them). After more than an hour of typing in my password in these prompts (it could not be pasted in), I got a little impatient and tried to restart. Then my Mac wouldn't boot (thanks Apple) and went into recovery mode. I used disk utility to repair permissions on my system disk, which detected several group permission errors, and then tried again to boot. No dice. I had to restore the system from my Time Machine backup, but thankfully it had a backup point for 10.10.5, so I tired that. Now everything works. I guess repairing permissions must have solved the problem so that 10.10.5 works, but I fail to understand how the error arose in the first place. I have never changed group permissions.

WTF :apple:??? :confused::mad:

Interesting. I have only dealt with Adware that Adware Cleaner found. Interesting infection. I'll have to read up on it if there are articles on it.
Any more information as to what that vulnerability (affecting all browsers) is all about?

HOLY ****. Apparently it's a brand of IRP Hook that is sweeping lots of computer, typically there's a scam by RockyFrogger associated with it. From what I understand most antivirus tool can't even remove it, and it's a big vulnerability issue that can modify your kernel and steal important information.

I never thought I'd see the day when Macs are as vulnerable as windows to virus! Unless this update fixes it. I'm gonna do the combo update now if no particular problem has been spotted.

I just upgraded to 10.10.5 and Blue Tooth no longer functions. There is a crooked line through the blue tooth icon in the top right corner of the desktop and when I click the icon it says "Bluetooth: Not Available". Under System Information for blue tooth it says "No information found". I tried a PRAM and SMC reset to no avail. I also tried a safe boot, no joy. The machine is the most recent version of the 13 inch MBP retina.

Any one else see this or have a fix?

So...is there some information about the details of it all, especially as it relates to OS X?

Just created an account to say that I have an Air, Pro, and iMac that were all updated and sent through infinite cycle updating loops. I reinstalled OS X on the Pro last night and it is running smoothly. I tried reinstalling OS X on my Air and iMac this morning but the reinstall failed multiple times on each device. Each time I would run reinstall the estimated times would fluctuate between 1000's of hours till completion to 0 seconds before completion. I allowed each reinstall program to run for several hours and no luck.

I was a big Apple fan boy and I've converted so many people over the years. But now, I give up. So many issues, so many problems over the last couple years. I throw in the towel. I wish you all the best Apple.

Well,, i learn something... Never new Quicktime player could play .wma files... I gather this was MS only.

If the fix for "incompatible with some email servers." hopefully this is also for that certificate failure pop up that occurs at times in Mail and the "workaround" is to just "trust" the cert ?

ya ok..... like i don't have that with *any other client*

The Mac update 10.10.5 messed up my Login items. Only two of the previous eight are listed in System Preferences/Users&Groups but all of them ran on second startup. And it ran Safari and Firefox on (second) startup which are not now nor ever were in my Login Items list. Repaired, reset PRAM. No fix.

Dangit. With every OS update I keep hoping my internal DVD superdrive will be restored to its glorious, functioning, pre-Mountain Lion status. Alas, this update does not do it. Same old thing: insert disc, hear a few chugs, then the disc is spit out.

Ever consider the possibility that your Superdrive is broken? My Superdrive in my 2008 MBP works just fine in Mavericks (and Mountain Lion before it). My Memorex external BD USB3 drive works fine on my Mac Mini as well, even in VMWare Fusion under XP and Win98 for old games, etc.

I should point out that a full installer is also available on the mac app store and if you haven't got yosemite yet it would be a good idea to get this now to make a bootable usb for 10.10.5 because soon yosemite will completely disappear from the mac app store altogether once el capitan is released.

You might not need it yet. But when mavericks disappeared when yosemite was released people complained about the lack of availability of it and resorted to getting it through torrents instead. This is not desirable.

So basically even if you don't need it yet, I'd say get yosemite the legitimate way - WHILE YOU STILL CAN!

Wait, what? If you go to App Store --> Purchased you can still see all the versions of OS X that you've purchased with your iCloud credentials. When I launch App Store I see Mountain Lion, Mavericks, and Yosemite right there with a "Download" link next to each one. Not sure why anyone would ever torrent what they can re-download for free with a couple of clicks of the mouse...

I did initially see that issue but after a reboot the issue went away. Try creating a new user account, reboot and login to the new user. See if Bluetooth is still gone.

Did you try to manually correct the items in the Login Items by removing ones you don't and adding in the ones you do want.

Try booting into safe mode and see if it corrects the install issue. I have seen this type of issue resolved that way.
