I think we may see a 10.x.6 for the first time since Snow Leopard. This 10.10.5 release is at least a couple of months before El Capitan is released.

Could be right... we are 1 month ahead of 10.9.5.
Release date of 10.9.5 (Build 13F1096) / September 17, 2014 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OS_X_Mavericks)

I'm thinking El Cap might be released a month earlier then last two OSes. It really seems ready for prime time, much more so then Yosemite was last year. If El Cap isn't released next month along with iOS, then I think we will see 10.10.6.

There's a very recent brand of adware that bypasses browsers and plugins and installs malicious component that highjack all browsers, and so far the Adware Cleaner I've tried couldn't fix it.

Interesting. I have only dealt with Adware that Adware Cleaner found. Interesting infection. I'll have to read up on it if there are articles on it.

Downloaded the 2.12GB combo at 56 MB/s in 37 seconds.

20 minutes to install.

[5400RPM hard drive, still waiting for Micron to release a 2TB SATA SSD]

one can hope! but can someone confirm for sure it is still mdnsresponder? dont want to install this and be locked back again in that world of hurt :)

So yes, we're still on mDNSResponder. Which is nice.

Great, WiFi improvement for my mbp2014. Stable Ping times to my router. .4 release was fluctuating between 20 and 400msec. Now its sub 2msec.

*sigh* to those who are getting kernel panics - for the love of all things holy uninstall little snitch. Really, it is
Another vote for Combo Update.

I wonder if they've finally fixed the bug which they've introduced in 10.10.3, which caused some of the systems with Intel 4000 graphics to get random kernel panics ( https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7000724 ). The only solution I've found was to disable the auto graphics switching in the power settings, so now the system is using the dedicated GPU instead of Intel's.

I assume you don't have little snitch installed?

Does this fix the recent browsers (all included) vulnerability that install adware highjacking your links to display spam/scam ?

I'm not going to ask if it fixes all the laggy performances.
Any more information as to what that vulnerability (affecting all browsers) is all about?

I had a slightly odd experience with my late 2011 MBP. I was still on 10.10.3 so my download payload was a hefty 2.4GB. After the installer screen had completed the screen went black and I got the long beep which I usually associate with a firmware update. The screen came back on with the firmware updating variant the boot screen but immediately (like within 0.5 seconds) rebooted and once again briefly showed the firmware updating screen before rebooting again. I let this cycle run about 5 times before it was apparent that this was never going to work so I powered off the laptop via the power key. I was pretty certain that I'd bricked the laptop by interrupting a firmware update but when I powered up, it booted into the normal startup screen - system info is showing 10.10.5 and SMC version 1.69f3.

But I remain a bit concerned that a firmware update may have failed. As I wasn't expecting a firmware update I was running on battery power during the update and wonder if this could have caused the firmware updates to be aborted?

Nice... The update appears to have fixed Bluetooth choppiness/stuttering playing music into my external amp/speakers from my 2012 MacBook Air.

Stoked!

Personally I wish they would replace dock icons with iOS ones, i slavishly remake all mine as i hate the current flat ones and I see no reason to clone apps and then have icons that don't match AT ALL!

I really can't wait for El Capitan though, This is probably much more stable than that will be. I feel like apple fixed so many things with yosemite i hate to take a step back from this 10.10.5 in a few months.

I'll take that desktop configuration. Man that's nice.

I have the excact same problem same MacBook Pro late 2011 17 inch and it happened the same way too! Except mine does only boot one third with an apple logo (reading from start disk) and then it shows the no start disk sign!?
Just today I had the motherboard replaced on apples free gpu fault program and it was running fine for just a few hours before this update :(

Damn! Sorry to hear this - I've also had the free motherboard replacement though I guess that's coincidental. On the bright side a partial boot seems to imply that the firmware is at least working and possibly it's just a corrupt system folder (in OS9 speak) which should be fixable if you can boot off another external drive and perhaps have another go at installing 10.5.5? You could try a single user mode boot & disk repair? I doubt it will help but ...

It sounds like there's a glitch in the installer wrt to some 2011 MBPs.
