One interesting observation on the combo updater is that this (10.11.3) is about the same size as the previous 10.11.2 one...Size difference of ~2MB overall, which TBH is quite unusual as point release combo updates tend to increase in size considerably. Just flagging it up, doesn't really mean anything other than that ;)

My entire two labs of 2008 Mac Pros are now dead with this damn update. It broke the Nvidia graphics drivers, and Nvidia hasn't released updates. I thought a minor point update would be safe. I should have tested it on a single machine first. I'll never trust Apple again.

UPDATE: I found the new Nvidia beta driver for 10.11.3. It fixed the issue. *whew*

It's never good practice to push out an update of any sort immediately after release on a large scale. Now you know.

OS X 10.11.3 (15D21)

Precisely why I have held off from installing the 10.11.4 beta till now.

The last 10.11.3 beta was build 15D13b. And the 10.11.4 beta was 15E27e. So despite apple being early with releasing the 10.11.4 beta I haven't installed it because then I couldn't test the new build 15D21, which although historically newer than build 15E27e, going by build numbers is between the 2 betas.

So I'll install this 15D21 build over 15D13b, AND THEN (maybe a few days later) install build 15E27e.

That makes more sense to me. (And perhaps more importantly, I'll have time machine backups of all 3 builds).

Noticed that EiskaltDC, that usually starts with a 1-2 sec beachball, opened up immediately.

Otherwise it "feels" snappier, it really does. Especially Safari.

The NVIDIA WebDriver don't work, they haven't an update atm.

I'm not a sys administrator or anything, but why would you push an update out almost immediately after it was released?

Because it fixes a zero day security issue. You don't always have the luxury of extended testing. There are some cases where something like a security issue is worse then waiting one more day.

Anyone else having ongoing less-than-great performance by the App Store? I've had various weird experiences since Yosemite with things disappearing, known updates not showing up until a reboot, and so on. Went to download the El Cap update and saw that there was a 1Password update as well, along with an old Xcode update I've chosen to not install and the OS X El Cap update. I decided to install just the 1Password app in order to clear the deck for the OS X update, so I clicked on the button to update just 1Password and suddenly the App Store is showing all three items "Installing" with progress bars. Cheese dude! Well, turns out they were not actually being downloaded/installed, the App Store app just decided to copy the progress bar for the 1Password install in all other showing installation options.

OK, this isn't a major problem, but I do think it is very indicative of the really sloppy job Apple's doing on things of late. The App Store is the portal from the outside world to the treasure trove of app-y goodness that Apple wants us to purchase. It's also the portal for getting all-important updates. Can't be that hard to make this work right, but obviously Apple can't be bothered. Sad. Maybe they've been ordered to make the code-base thinner.

Yeah, it was dumb. But I'm used to Apple releasing updates after our semester starts. Then we go an entire semester one or two versions behind. So this time I figured with a point update and mainly security patches, I'd be fine. I upgraded the labs to 10.11.2 without any issues at all. I'm just hoping Nvidia's on top of this and pushes an update in the next few days. In a worst case scenario, I'll just pull the extra video cards out of the machines.

There are only 2 things that I send right to production: Flash Player and Chrome. An OS update never immediately gets pushed. There's no 0-day getting fixed here in 10.11.3.

Wrong link
That's where Apple says the release notes for 10.11.3 will be but Apple has not yet published those release notes.

Safari and iTunes can no longer be opened as they are corrupted everything is running at a snails pace. Reinstalling El Capitan now and not going past 10.11.2 it's s disgrace..

Lol...there is an entire thread about nVidia cards and web drivers right here in this forum where people are warned about this like six times a week. Facepalm. Shakes head. Good day sir.

Hardly *any* websites still have java applets. *as a java developer* I haven't even seen one for i don't know how long. Java does indeed still have its place(s) but applets are deader than a dead thing.

Flash is thankfully getting rarer too. My feeling now is that any site that only offers video as flash, or like BBC insists on serving flash to desktop users despite it working perfectly well using HTML5 if you force it, just don't really want me to watch their videos.

That's why you leave Javascript turned On in Safari. What you want to remove is Oracle's JAVA.
Some users may search for anything that says Java, and remove what shouldn't be removed.

I also installed AdBlock in Safari, and that made it even better.

Install this. It is a missing JDK file in the OS that for some people causes issues. Let me know if it doesn't fix it.

https://support.apple.com/kb/dl1572?locale=en_US

Uninstall the SIMBL plugins you have running.

So the message I got gave me an actual link to the file I needed to download, but after successfully installing it the message still comes back.

It's always in the foreground, popping up during movies or when typing...

Deleting anything related to the Java JDK it wanted me to download wasn't an option because I ran into websites that needed it within a day. Will look into it again if the OS X update didn't resolve the issue.

To me it seems like a bug in OS X because installing the software doesn't seem to get registered by the system. Thanks for the replies anyway!

If you run the Nvidia web driver you need to wait until a new version of the web driver comes out before updating.

I know this, running the web driver on my iMac. I probably won't get to install 10.11.3 for a bit longer if I want to keep using it. (stock driver crashes on certain apps)

Just installed 10.11.3 and I immediately see an issue with multiple displays. The dock only shows up on the primary display and the application specific top menu always stays on the primary display, even when the application is running on an alternate display. Anyone else seeing this?

iTunes and Safari working fine here on 10.11.3.
