What the? It just jumped from 400MB down to 100MB. And now it's stopped. It'll do nothing when pressing Update :(

Same, 716MB here for my Macbook Air 11 (Early 2015). It downloaded the first 200MB super fast and now it's saying 18mins and counting up and up.

Edit:
lol now showing 38 minutes left. 47 minutes left! 49! 55! 1 hour 15 minutes! Keeps going up and up :)

Edit 2:
Update failed. Clicking Update does nothing now.

Same here in Europe. It's getting slower now...
AppleTV 4 has finished 15minutes ago, my Watch is currently rebooting, the Mac has only 150MB left for download (but 14 Minutes and raising ;) ).
Still waiting for iOS 9.3.3 . It's not yet available.

Slow download of the 716 MB for my MacBook Pro 15" Late 2008. Most likely this is the last ever official version of an Apple OS to run on this machine, since its not supported by macOS Sierra. Makes me a bit sad :/

One must be a total idiot to rush into installing this.

Well, but then again, I guess it will be the same people who buy the new iPhone 7 with no-headphone "feature"
Well there won't be another el cap update.

guess i'm glad it stopped...must have been another quick update. Initial download on both of my machines was 716mb, after they stopped and I restarted the download they are now 826mb, and moving much faster.

Ok, now a combo update with iTunes. 592MB. Downloaded the first 177 in a blink and now it's stopped at 182.

Just as slow through those sadly, immediately plummets.

Same on my end. Downloads some amount at max speed and then drops to dial-up.

Maybe the will fix the excessive bandwidth issue so I don't get charged for using 500 gigs a month when I actually only use a 100. Doubt it.
Are you only using 1 Mac on your network? Using iCloud? Doing app updates? It's unlikely an OS would use 5x more data than you claim. Some ISPs count uploads as well which includes the packets that upload for every download. You should see if your ISP has a network usage monitor so you can see your remaining quota all the time to determine if it happens when you're doing stuff on your Mac.
Multiple devices on a network easily chew through the data now.
Running 6 macs, 4 iOS devices on a 500GB plan. Never seen unexplainable usage, high usage yes but never unexplainable.

That's the iTunes update. I was able to download and install that but the OS X update still won't download fully for me.

My favorite OS releases are the ones that are STRICTLY "under the hood" improvements. Still miss 10.6 though because that iteration of OS (and all sub iterations) was advertised (and delivered) on "under the hood" improvements. 10.6.8 remains to this day the "bar" relative to stability and what a good Mac OS should be.

Yep :(

Seriously has anybody actually downloaded and installed this yet? It just downloads then plummets. I've tried restarting the download, waiting…

EDIT: finally downloaded :)

i can't believe it...my 2016 12" macbook is performing up to standard i can live with after updating to 10.11.6...internet speed is even impressing me to some extent (perhaps due to low standards based on experience with el capitan to date)...i can take a reprieve from my normal bitching about how os x 10.11 (prior versions) has been to date just based on my last 30 minutes of experience since completing the 10.11.6 update.

FYI, i did install the combo update...first time doing so and that may be the primary reason for the surprising results I'm seeing.
