Any way to enable TRIM on third party SSD ? Same way used with Yosemite (command prompt) ?
Thank you in advance
I can answer to myself: yes trim works the same way it did with Yosemite this summer.

And for a hilarious reason

Actually there is a good reason to remove secure empty trash on SSD drives...

Well, to upgrade to this I'm gonna have to do a clean install, as my MacBook Air is rather snail-like to start up and run. So, anyone know how to do a clean install of OS X? I'm mostly a Windows guy, so I know all about Windows and and PC hardware, but not so much about Mac PCs. Any help would be greatly appreciated. All I can give you is a LIKE for your help, sorry, but I would appreciate it a lot.

If you are with Telstra/Bigpond there seems to be a problem with speed on the App Store (see Whirlpool threads).

I'm on iiNet in Australia and it downloaded in less than 15mins.

Amnet, and it's just my area I think. I typically get really bad downloads regardless lol.

OMG the download is going so slow, 1 hour in and barely 400Mb down out of 6Gb. will be down in about 1 day & 5 hours going by the App Store DL.

I was initially in the same boat. I saw another post where the person paused their download and the restarted it and the time to download improved significantly. I can attest to that fact as I went from well over 4hrs down to 40 minutes. Not sure why this is, but worth a try.

Dowloaded and installed on my 2011 MBP last night. I have an SSD, so overall it feels just like 10.10.5, maybe a littler snappier overall when launching apps. Split screen is nice, new Notes is nice, but this kinda feels like 10.10.6 than 10.11.0.

My MBP 2010 came with Snow Leopard preinstalled. So far I updated to Lion, Mountain Lion, Mavericks, Yosemite and El Capitan. Each on the first day of Golden Master availability. I never made a clean install of OS X. Never had a reason to. Why do you want to lose all your data? When I will buy a new MacBook in a few years, I plan to restore my system with all it's files and settings from backup.

I think a lot of people have the Windows mentality when it comes to an OS update. Windows used to be a real disaster and needed clean installs constantly in order to run fast. Mac doesn't use a registry nor the same kind of installer system that Windows does so I'm not sure why I've seen people saying that they are going to clean install.

I have the public beta installed but no notice to upgrade (I'm not sure I got one for the GM build either, does anyone know what the build number is?)

Have I been orphaned for some reason?

I have the 27" late 2012 iMac with i7 processor and 8gb ram
Is it necessary to do do a clean install if upgrading from mavericks?
Will there be a significant difference if I just do a straight upgrade

No, I did an upgrade last night from Mavericks to El Capitan at 3am and it went without a hitch and runs a lot better on my 2013 MBA.

I updated yesterday to the latest El Capitan and now my updates are showing public beta 10.11.1.. Why is it wanting me to go back to beta?

Do you have the option to opt out of pre-release software builds in Settings > AppStore? If yes, and you don't want to receive betas click that.
