The CS 5.5 question was one of the first things I checked. The initial attempt to launch Dreamweaver or Photoshop presented a dialog and link to download Java 6 for "legacy apps." I did so and so far, so good. This seems to also play nice with your current Java installation.

THANK YOU SO MUCH for replying. That's great news. Could you remember this thread or my ID and reply again (or PM me) should your continued use of those programs on El Capitan reveal any major issues? Those are among crucial workflow for me, so I'm waiting to upgrade until I know that they should work pretty well in El Capitan. Again, THANKS so much for replying and bringing some clarity (and seemingly good news) on this particular question.

I had problems with CS 5.5 in the public betas & GM, the CS5.5 apps would launch (after you reinstall Java) but they would not refresh properly. And some screens would render as all black. It wasn't much fun. I haven't tried on the official release of El Cap yet.

arkmannj, since I know you were interested in this one too, see post 553 for some apparent good news about Adobe 5.5 and El Capitan.

Ah, thanks for correcting me. I thought, that El Capitan is MacOS 11 ...

I think they should have named it OS XI (11). El Capitan is the first Mac OS fully under Tim Cook's tenure. Leaving OS X behind for OS XI would make more sense. But hey what do I know? I'm not getting paid the big bucks to make those decisions.

Downloaded just fine for me... East Coast here... Had a netflix movie playing at the same time

Would seem to me you were overloading the incoming data, with a netflix movie live and the EC downloading at the same time. Kind of like setting yourself up for failure when so many troubles have been posted from those who took no chances of having another project running simultaneously. After the downloading wonder how EC is working for you? If any troubles show up, wonder where you will put the blame?

Wanna know why Spotlight in Yosemite sucks?
1) Can't resize the window which leads me to ask why Apple violates its own human-interface guidelines.
2) No way to open the enclosing folder in the Finder. Maybe, just maybe, I'm looking for a project instead of a file.
4) No way to open the document if it finds it in the app of my choice. No, as a matter of fact, I don't want to launch the document in whatever app the OS has decided is the right one.
5) No way to easily search for just the name of the document instead of the search string inside the document. So annoying. Even Finder window searches don't default to this.

Seriously, I don't want Spotlight to do anything but act as a search tool for my local storage.

I'm curious about #3.

Hi
I would really like some information on this. In the first few pages of posts to this thread it says that the Release Build is 15A284. Mine which is from the El Capitan Beta track is
System Version: OS X 10.11.1 (15B17c)

Does the 'B' mean my build is higher than the release build or does the 'B' stand for Beta?

anyone???

That would not cause a post install issue. The installer verifies itself before the install starts, so if the download was corrupted the install would stop and throw an error message.

Well... that was a pointless update. I can't see any difference at all.
on my Mac Mini the memory used by the OS is smaller than Maverick. After a fresh boot I have at least 300 Mb more of free RAM, it could makes a difference on a 2-4 Gb computer

It doesn't make sense because OS X is a brand, the name of the operating system. It's not really a number. It would be like Microsoft deciding to arbitrarily rename Windows, to Doors or something.

Huh?

With Yosemite/10.10.5, if I open Spotlight and type in a search term, the last item in the list on the left is always "Show all in Finder..."

If I open that, Finder opens with list of all the hits, sorted by category depending the items found (Notes, Folders, Mail & Messages, PDF Documents, Bookmarks & History, Spreadsheets, etc.) From there, if I control-click/right-click on a result, I get the option to "Open", "Open With>", "Show in Enclosing Folder" and "Reveal in Finder" down at the bottom.

Disk Utility is just awful - Can't even resize the window to get all the disks in view (though the sidebar scrolls, it's just unnecessary).

Thanks everyone for letting me know how you got on. After all the concern I got it pretty quick and installation was a breeze. Good luck to all, as it's wrecked my iTunes library and the fun begins.

I have no idea, nor do I care, how much memory I have or is being used. In the same way, I have no idea how many cylinders my car has. All I know is it gets me from A to B.

Can't get over how much the performance on my mid 2011 27" iMac has improved. Like I have a new machine.

Install back Mountain Lion and will be newer still (I have the same iMac, it will die with Mountain Lion, but have a partition with Snow Leopard, too. Still the best OS X ever).

Expecting this version to be as solid as a rock.
From my standpoint, based on 24 hours, it is. I used Yosemite for about a week before reverting to Mavericks because it seemed to really show down my machine. So far, El Cap seems fine; only 2 probs I have is Aperture and iPhotos both apparently require an update to download to run and, although both appear in the update section of the App store, both are not available.

Just updated to El Capitan on my Late 2011 MBP (8 GB RAM) and it's extremely slow and laggy.

Really disappointing after reading all the positive comments. I feel like Charlie Brown on Halloween.

I have the same Mac as you have.
How about the estimated battery life?
The update to 10.11 GM cut my battery life in half, ranging from 2.5 to 5 hours from heavy to light usage.

Actually I am at 17% today, with mid-usage (Chrome since 7am EST, Safari, HipChat, EverNote, Excel, Word, GoToMeeting, Mail) and a few things on Dropbox. My initial assumption was that my battery life is holding a lot stronger on these minimal applications. I haven't performed any heavy tasks like Photoshop, InDesign or Final Cut.

Sorry but you have to keep up with Jony's Yearly Operating System Fashion Show. If you want something that is going to be around for a while and will be well-supported you need to try Windows 7, Window 8.1 or Windows 10. Shoot, Windows 7 gets five more years of security support. OS X El Capitan won't even be supported by then.

One has to decide between long-term reliability and the latest toys.

Touting Windows as secure and reliable is comical, nice troll account.
