Apple Releases OS X 10.11 El Capitan With Improved Spotlight Search, Enhanced Performance, and Revamped Apps

Finished installation but now I'm stuck at the sign in with your Apple ID page....

Edit: just finished setting up. Getting to the desktop. Yay!

Installing on my iMac and it's already at the apple logo screen with the installation running smoothly. On my Macbook Pro it's still downloading from the app store and has about 1 hr remming and both were clicked on within a minute of each other. Not a complaint just a silly observation. I am in no rush or anything.

Funny thing how they keep stating how stable it is however I've been getting numerous e-mails from Native Instrument, Steinberg, Slate Digital, and Gobbler all advising the same thing: NOT TO UPGRADE. At least not at this moment until all the bugs and fixed and patched. So unfortunately I won't be upgrading for a while until I know without a doubt I won't have any issues having Logic Pro X trying to authorize my AU plugins and VIs and have it freeze up or crash. Just a heads up for all music producers, composers, etc.
it's THEIR problem, not el capitans. they had freaking 4 months (or 3?) to update their software. el capitan is miles better than yosemite.

Since no one else posted this yet..

Updated iPhone and iPad Air 2, will update Macbook tomorrow.
Good night everyone!

I have been using the GM release for a couple of weeks and now the final is available in the App Store, is it worth installing that one or are they effectively the same.

The version I have running is 10.11.1 (15B17c)

Is this the same as the public GM? or is there reason to download? I don't see it in updates, but it looks like I can download when searched.

It would seem that the build number has gone up a few notches from the GM Candidate, so I'm (running the GM and) downloading the installer and installing El Capitan just to stay on the most up-to-date OS.

I had problems with CS 5.5 in the public betas & GM, the CS5.5 apps would launch (after you reinstall Java) but they would not refresh properly. And some screens would render as all black. It wasn't much fun.

I haven't tried on the official release of El Cap yet.

Thank you for answering. Would you please remember this and come back after testing the final release. I'm particularly interested in Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Photoshop and Illustrator 5.5. I'd love to hear from you again on this topic vs. the final release. Or maybe we both could learn this from anyone else???

For USB installer:

First download the OS X El Capitan.
Then Create a > 8 GB partition on an external USB HD (named "Untitled")
Then fire up the Terminal.app and paste this (followed by <ENTER> and your passwd):

sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ El\ Capitan.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/Untitled --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ El\ Capitan.app --nointeraction

I'll have to disagree to a point. Apple could have better accommodated this seemingly drastic "audio" change better and most developers wait till the OS goes final for all the changes to be set before working on it. I get that.

Alright, I have a question, I am on the GM and I will install the public release one as well. What advantage would I get if I do a fresh install? I have some issues with AirDrop not working with my mac, so that is one reason for me but I can do with that if that saves me many hours of work to get the mac back to where it was.

Lots of issues with audio specifically. Related to that I wonder if they'll need to put out a Logic 10.2.1 soon.

Downloading... hopefully this really does improve performance. I haven't been keeping up with any news about this OS version.

Best OS since Snow Leopard. Truly great stuff after using it all summer. Some betas were rocky but the final release is great. Yosemite doesn't even compare...I had so many issues on that version.
Well we are going to have to split that sentiment into 2 camps. Those that do audio production and those that don't.

I'm getting dialup speeds (not an exaggeration) trying to download it on my gigabit network (reality is closer to about 200-300 Mbps up and down) at work.

That's where I'm at as well. Cisco 2960G switches (gigabit) all the way out to our provider. I just hit 1GB downloaded with 2 hours to go (which just jumped up to 7:45).

BL.
