And my Shake install survives yet another update for an OS it wasn't meant for. It truly is a remarkable piece of software!

Wow, maybe Apple is adopting the Windows model of software compatibility.

I'm not surprised when 12-year old software designed for Windows 2000 installs on my Windows 7 x64 system.

I'm surprised if it doesn't - but that rarely happens.

Man I f I can get my Iron Helix and Shadows of the Empire PC games to run on Win7 x64 I would fall over out of shear shock!

Mine was the same size...must be because mine is the 2009 aluminum 13" MacBook.

After Software Update took 5 MINUTES to find ONE UPDATE (I understand this is normal?), the file size weighs in at 729.6 MB for my MacBook Pro 13".

I am SO confused why Apple couldn't have made this update a tad bit smaller. I mean, come on. Cheetah 3D, various media players and even my entire iPhoto library don't weigh that much. I would hope that Apple could be more efficient. And I wish there was an option to update only one feature. For me it would be the checkbox fix.

I really want to know why the MBA update is about half the size.

UPDATE: Safari is also included in the update as are several other items and fixes. That explains the size.

Tried to update my MacBook pro. Now it won't startup anymore. The computer turns itself off after about reach 5% on the progress bar after the apple 'dong' sound. Any ideas?

yuck did they change the linen pattern for fullscreen apps? the tiling appears ridiculously pronounced.

This seemed to reset the font smoothing to be too bold. I had to use defaults -currentHost write -g AppleFontSmoothing -int 2 to get it back to looking how it should. Working well other than that.

What's the problem? (Seriously - some installers look at the system version and abort if they don't recognize it (vs simply using the install APIs).)

Nice that you pick a game released in 1993 to complain about Win7 x64 compatibility.

And, note that I said that I'm surprised when an old installer doesn't work - not that it never happens. In my experience, it's very rare.

This broke TRIM on my Intel G2 160GB.

EDIT: Downloaded and ran Trim Enabler and TRIM is back up and running, according to system report.

It's hard to believe that Apple still blocks TRIM support for drives that don't claim to be "Apple SSD".

I used those instructions before and it worked fine.

This time, when I entered the "sudo kextcache -system-prelinked-kernel" command I got the following message:

IOAHCIBlockStorage.kext is not authentic; omitting.

Anyone else get it too?
LOL that was a bad idea. After I rebooted, it wouldn't boot at all. Thankfully, I was able to restore things by booting into the recovery partition, using terminal to restore the original IOAHCIBlockStorage file and running the "touch /System/Library/Extensions" command, since "kextcache -system-prelinked-kernel" did nothing when booted into the recovery partition. Phew.

Edit: It was my bad, I messed something up the first time... I did it again, and everything was fine now. Something about the Hex editor I used.

One shouldn't put anything past apple these days. Why not make any non apple ssd perform like crap via flipping an os wide switch? Users should know better than to upgrade their computers with much cheaper, much better ssds instead of paying the apple tax.

Never mind, I messed something up the first time... I think I made the file executable or something else.

I did it again, and the second time there was no such message when I did kectcache -system-prelinked-kernel. After rebooting, everything worked ok and trim is now ON on my Intel SSD. :)

It does, unless you open the terminal and screw up the kext file responsible for accessing the main OS drive. The cool thing is how easily I was able to fix it. Lesson learned without paying a high price. ;D

There are some very brave people here btw, to think that after the 10.7.3 update fiasco anyone would install an apple update hours even minutes after it's been released... If for once won't be installing .7.4 not until .7.6, if we ever get to the stage of a .6 update what with apple mountain lion just around the corner.

And when mountain lion comes out non 64bit mac users will have a great choice of either the buggiest, slowest, most counter intuitive OS X ever or no icloud with snow leopard. The users of newer macs will of course have to cough it up for the service pack that is mountain lion.
