I updated my rMBP and during the update my Mac cleaned its own fans. It was sort like a small blast and my table was covered with some dust. Not a lot since my Mac is few months old but still.

I am not complaining about that but is there any way to do it on purpose? Just for sake to clean my Macs fans.

Did you notice the same thing and do you have and idea how to run it manually.

so far so good on the rMBP - no issues.

I am hoping it'll fix the WiFi thing. Supposedly "many changes" to WiFi, even though there was no public admission of it...

Download the free SMCFanControl. This allows you to increase the minimum speed. So you set min speed to max (6,000), that should do it. Then set it back.

It's also really useful in hot climates where the standard Apple settings are too low. I had my friend set his iMac to 2400 (vs. 2,000 stock). It's hardly any louder, still only barely audible in a quiet room; but the machine runs way cooler. Good for the electronics, HDD, etc.

I know I shouldn't jump on the update right away but 10.8.2 had so many issues I'll do it anyway. Knock. On. Wood. Using the combo updater of course, I am not that crazy...

I didn't use combo updater. Any reason I should have? And if so, should I download the combo en reinstall?

Thanks!

What does Windows 8 installation support mean?
Windows 8 installed fine already.

Well, Apple released Boot Camp 5.0 as part of this release. It has updated drivers and so on. Although it worked for you in Windows 8, other have had problems and this might solve it.
Anyhow, there's no need to reinstall Windows, just go to Apple support pages and download Boot Camp 5 manually.

I already installed windows 7. I have w8 but im too lazy to do it now. Why did you take so long apple?

Anybody else's "reopen windows...." box not working anymore? I never have the checkmark there and, at every restart, windows staying open.

EDIT: Fixed by restarting once with checkmark there, then removing checkmark again.

My MBP-R was just up-dated , no problems so far.

Seems to be taking the update rather well.

It did mention graphics enhancements , but I am still see very poor movement of chess pieces , it is strange , they like stutter , even when I turn off the Intel HD - GPU and run just the NVIDIA - GPU.

No big deal , it has been like that since it was new , even if I switch it back to auto-switching , I have the same problems , but only with Mac`s Chess app.

I can run Pinball HD and AirAttack , they both run sweet , O__well

I never had the "fan issue" , the first time I really even herd the fans was while it was loading the SMC -update. At least I know my fans work !! LOL

So all in all , A-OK :D

Later :)

Still the same WiFi issue, screen brightness degraded, the only thing fixed is in Integrated Video Mode now no more screen refresh issues.

Does anyone else experience screen brightness degradation? I had around 30% brighter screen before an update. :(:(:mad::mad:

Nice of Apple to not fix any of the lingering bugs in OSX 10.7.5 Lion. I understand the OS has been out for almost two years but Microsoft still supports XP, Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8. I just don't like the direction Apple's taken in the last couple years as it really seems that quality control has slipped in their OS...

Bootcamp Optibay?

Does being able to install Bootcamp on the 3TB drives also allow us to directly install windows on a drive in optibay? Has anyone tried? Usually, it used to allow the bootcamp process, but the windows installation would indicate that you cannot install it on the particular drive.

TRIM still might not play nice with Sandforce drives in OS X.
Sandforce already has the own "built-in TRIM" which works better than the original MP OS X. As this is controlled at the Hardware layer, it is supposedly aimed to work better than the TRIM support at the OS/software layer. Try making SF authorative to take up TRIM and this would surely help.

Ah ok thanks mate! I'm not playing with fire, if it ain't broke ;)

I know I can Google it, but I'm crazy lazy right now (trainer kicked my butt!), but what is the benefit to TRIM in OS X? (and why does it not play nice with SandForce controllers?)

Thanks!

Benefit of TRIM across OS remains same. However, the actual results may vary depending on the platform. Comparitively, OS X handles TRIM better than Windows 7. In case you want to try enabling TRIM support for your OS X and check the SSD performance, this link can be handy - http://www.storagereview.com/how_to_enable_trim_with_nonapple_ssd

I was having constant KP on my mid 2010 15" MBP after I updated from 10.8.1 to 10.8.2. These would stop if I forced Integrated graphics.

I've been running since yesterday and not only it feels smooth, but I've also been using dedicated graphics (dynamic switching, but I happen to be running apps that require more juice) almost non-stop and had no issues so far *knocks on wood*. But I'm still afraid to say that the issue was fixed xD

Anyone with bluetooth issues after the update? Used to be both trackpad and keyboard were paired and responsive immediately as soon as the login window appears.

Now, one or the other is always disconnected and I must wait about 5-10 seconds for them to finally connect.

Just a minor issue but still kinda annoying since I have to wait a bit before I can type the password. (since either the mouse cursor is frozen or the keyboard is)

Yes, I have also ran into this issue. Either the mouse, keyboard, or trackpad isn't detected.

I will try it as soon as I have done the update this evening. Will get back to you again.

Thanks Tommymang. Let me know how it goes. I tried twice with both times hanging on me. When I force quit bootcamp, it left my Macintosh HD with the reduced size amount and the Windows partition was completely gone. I had to restart then verify and repair the HD both times and that seemed to fix the issue. I'm not sure if the update addresses 3TB w/ Fusion specs. Hopefully other people will try this out and post on here how they did.

I also noticed that when restarting various times, usually one of my bluetooth devices (mouse, keyboard, or trackpad) wouldn't pair with the iMac instantly and needed to manually be paired again. Hope Apple releases a fix this this soon.

I think it's a power saving "feature." Been noticing it on both my iMacs since I've been running the beta for a while. Haven't looked very deeply into it, but I think it was designed to save power on the wireless keyboard and mouse after the machine's been down for awhile.

I get the power saving feature part but having to pair it each time I reboot seems a little over the top.

Finally my 3D CAD Siemens NX runs again!

It took more than 2 years to get Siemens NX software running again on my MBP.
I'm happy. It wasn't Siemens's fault it took so long, it was Apple's fault.

One lesson I've learned; Never upgrade to a next version if you're happy with the version you have.

Anyway this release made my day :)

Well that was scary, i updated, relaunched and went out. When i got back my macbook was stuck on the gray screen and the fans were blazing, tryed fixing disk permissions and repair disk, still nothing. PRAM reset was the final resort and i'm back, i don't think it was recognizing the OS as a safe boot said 'disk02 no media detected' or something like that.

I've been following these 10.8.3 beta threads for months as I've suffered from the infamous Nvidia related kernel panics on 2010 MacBook Pros. I eagerly downloaded the combo update yesterday in the hopes it would finally relieve the problems.

Well I just had my first kernel panic with 10.8.3 and unsurprisingly the graphics kernel extensions were in the backtrace. I'm at a loss, very upset. :( I have the 330M card. Guess I'll need to take it into a store and get it checked out although I rely extensively on this machine and being without it for an extended amount of time if it needs service would be bad.
