Apple Releases OS X 10.8.3 With Mac App Store Gift Card Camera Redemption and Boot Camp Enhancements

What to do after update it?

Hi all,

Thanks for this amazing forums to share and get help.

I have a MBP 13" early 2011. I have updated to 10.8.3 yesterday and no problems until now.

I would like to ask to the "experts" and anyone with knowledge about: What are the next steps to do after the update?

I have read in another places that it is good to drain battery to adjust the system. I do not know if this is right or not.

Thanks in advance for any suggestion to update in the best way my MBP.

Best regards,

anyone else having troubles getting the updated? Every time I go to the App Store the update isn't there, when I perform Software Update it's not shown either.

Wonderful. I updated and absolutely NOTHING works. Not even the calendar. I cant even pop a browser to research the problem. Now I have to be on my windows machine which has none of my work on it. Thanks Apple.

Nice of Apple to not fix any of the lingering bugs in OSX 10.7.5 Lion. I understand the OS has been out for almost two years but Microsoft still supports XP, Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8. I just don't like the direction Apple's taken in the last couple years as it really seems that quality control has slipped in their OS...

Actually... Microsoft dropped support of XP and Vista a long while back.

Well Good luck! It didn't fix mine o a 27 in 2011 iMac.

I did get an Airport Extreme and still have this issue on a 27 in 2011 iMac! Anyone know the fix for this?

The issue with the 2007 MBP wifi has nothing to do with what router you use it has something to do with the coding for the wifi card. The wifi works normal till you try to backup wireless then it slows to a crawl the wifi almost drops to zero then when u stop it then the wifi goes back to normal. Same thing happens when you try to airplay from itunes to appleTV ect wifi drops out. I am using two apple time capsules (one older and one latest edition) and an Airport Express. There is a hack for it but you have to install part of the wifi driver from OS X.6 for it to work. Works fine in X.7 - Considering to upgrade the 21.5 2011 iMac since the audio issues are fixed.

No they didn't.

Where did you get that info of yours?

They kinda did - as in the business i work for we used XP Pro and the tech people do not want to talk to you unless u pay then - did not happen till a year ago. the Auto Updates do not always work sometimes crash the computer - had to download Service Pak 3 when i had to do a system reinstall and install the update from the installer. The Auto Update has practically stopped working after the first of the year - People I talk to what make our custom software that MS is pushing them to make the updates for Win 7 and basically are cutting out the liececning of XP for soft ware development

I had an issue like that with my 2009 Mac-Mini. I was fortunate to have Applecare. Apple ended up replace the drive. No problems since.

Yeah... I just don't want to have to pay Apple to fix that because on top of that there are screen issues. What at first I thought was dirt buildup under the glass that covers the screen seems something else.
I removed the glass in an attempt to clean it but it seems to be buried further so there is a bit of distortion just on the top right and left portions of the screen.
This iMac was rarely used so I'm just stupefied about the different issues... and quite frankly not happy with what seems to be an inferior build.

Download the free SMCFanControl. This allows you to increase the minimum speed. So you set min speed to max (6,000), that should do it. Then set it back.

It's also really useful in hot climates where the standard Apple settings are too low. I had my friend set his iMac to 2400 (vs. 2,000 stock). It's hardly any louder, still only barely audible in a quiet room; but the machine runs way cooler. Good for the electronics, HDD, etc.

Thanks for suggestion! Very nice app and it does what it say it does. :)

Stuck on this screen since last night. Anyone got any suggestions?

Stuck on this screen since last night. Anyone got any suggestions?

Overnight?! Yikes. Don't hold me responsible but I would hold down the power button until it forces a shut down. Then I would click on the power button and hope it boots. If it does check the "About This Mac" in the Apple Menu and see if it says 10.8.3. If not I'd try to install again.

Of course backup what you can always.

Actually if it were me I'd make sure I had a backup of everything then create a bootable install disc of 10.8.3. Boot from it - erase my main hard drive and start from scratch. This is the process that I just went through and it's taken me a lot of hours but things sure seem to be quick and smooth on my machine. I just upgraded from 10.7.5.

Win8 on iMac works fine

Windows 8 would suck on a Mac, since there's no touch screen

IMO, it does not 'suck' on a Mac. I've been running Win8 on my late 2012 iMac and it works exactly as it would on a fast PC. In fact, my Apple Magic Mouse is fully supported in the Metro UI and is complimentary to moving around the full screen apps.

And if you don't like using the Metro UI, you also have a 'desktop' option with old school windows, folders, and Internet Explorer on your desktop.

I use it for gaming, where the 680MX has allowed me to run a slew of popular titles at 2560x1440 at ultra settings, smooth as butter.

Windows 8 has been crash free for the 2+ months I've used it.

I haven't upgraded to 10.8.3 on my MacBook Pro 13" Late 2011 i7 yet but tested all the betas for months from an external drive with no problems so I shall probably upgrade OSX 10.8.2 tonight.

I have been running Windows 8 x64 in Boot Camp since December on my MacBook Pro 13" Late 2011 i7. It is performing flawlessly after independently searching, finding, and installing all the necessary missing drivers the old Boot Camp Drivers failed to update.

I resolved all the keyboard, mouse, and trackpad issues and even have 'Trackpad++' working with all the gestures!

Has anyone else done this by upgrading Windows 7 x64 to Windows 8 x64 and now decided to install the new 10.8.3 Windows 8 x64 Boot Camp Drivers?

I have no desire to screw around with the new Windows 8 x64 Boot Camp drivers only to be back at square one.

Windows 8 x64 drivers are not to be taken lightly so if you have any information please share.

BTW I had absolutely no issues using the old Boot Camp Drivers after upgrading Windows 7 x32 to Windows 8 x32 on an old Core Duo Black MacBook which made me think the Windows 7 x64 to Windows 8 x64 on the MacBook Pro 13" i7 would be just as easy.

Wrong!

Windows 8 x32 and Windows 8 x64 are completely different animals and were compounded by doing Windows 7 upgrades instead of clean installs.

BTW the new Windows 8 Boot Camp Drivers will NOT install on the old Core Duo Black MacBook saying this computer is not supported.

Golly it has been running Windows 8 x32 since December without even a hiccup.

Apple's recent actions have made me very reluctant to do anything without more feedback.

OS X 10.8.3 is last one right?

Or will there be a 10.8.4.

Hopefully the next OS Apple shows is 10.9
So, Apple still didn't get it right with 10.8 after 3 incremental updates and you want 10.9? Why, I must ask? This new OS X version every year BS is what's killing stability! 10.8.3 would be here long before if it wasn't for that.. what they couldn't fix on 10.8.3, they would on 10.8.4. Now they just care about 10.9 and putting all their efforts in it. Sure there will be a 10.8.4 version some time but, how much more? People are still having trouble.. different bugs were not solved but they will launch 10.9 and start from scratch. But, maybe it will have Siri and Apple Maps so that's all good YAY! NOT

Boot Camp 5 (the new version included with 10.8.3) only supports 64-bit versions of Windows 7 and 8.

And since 10.8 (and 10.7, too!) doesn't even run on a Core Duo machine, there's no reason to expect that the Boot Camp drivers that it includes would support it, either.

My Bad!

Didn't even consider I was running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 which is the max it can even run!

Any info about the 10.8.3 Boot Camp information is still requested.

Thanks.

Apple, Apple, Apple! What have you done????

When downloading the support drivers the bootcamp-assistant (5.0.2) tells me "This Mac can ONLY PLAY Windows 7!" proceed anyway?

This is Mac Pro 3,1 with bootcamp running Windows 8 Pro x64......

This is going to be a big, big, big disappointment for a lot of :apple: users if there are no updated drivers for Windows 8 (Pro) x64!!!!!!

Or am I looking in the wrong direction?

Macbook air 2012 / 8GB. The machine get hotter all the time. Fan speed around 3000 even when in idle. It used to be dead cool, even when playing video. I've done reset SMC & repair disk permission before & after upgrade. Try to restore back to 10.8.2.

My shutdown times have greatly improved (2011 iMac with HDD) - was about 25 seconds, now 5-10 seconds.
