for me this 10.8.4 is a solid update

my iMac 27" late 2012 and MB 13" mid 2012 works fine now also the most biggest fix is safari now safari not doin some memory hogs when using extension(s)

shut down also fixed at least for now not sure what will happen tomorrow or later ;)

So far so good with Safari

Safari became unusable for me because it would just lock up my UI, so far so good with this build has not acted up YET, will keep my fingers crossed and if it is fixed it sure took them long enough

For those with the wifi problems on older Macbook Pros and the like, don't forget to use the fixes from this thread. 10.8.4 broke the simple kext swap, however I discovered which file from 10.8.3 needed to be swapped back in to make the fix work again.
-----
You need the /usr/libexec/airportd from 10.8.3 to replace the one in 10.8.4. I'm sure this undoes some bug fixes and stuff done to the wifi support in 10.8.4, but until apple fixes the wifi problems....

Get it here.

1. Turn off wifi.
2. sudo mv /usr/libexec/airportd /usr/libexec/airportd.old
3. sudo cp airportd /usr/libexec/airportd
4. Turn on wifi.
5. Happy!

Apple logo flickering when in safari

I've just noticed this after the update that when your in safari and browse page to page apple in left hand side seems to flicker with the pages loading. I don't notice this when I use iTunes. Only in safari when going from page to page as the page loads. Glitch or something new coming to all apps? I thought it was neat even if it's a glitch.

Just finished updating. Quite possibly the worst experience I ever had with OS X just occurred.

So I DL the reg update and waited for it to finish. Then I change my mind and DL the combo.

I install and reboot.

Get to the login and it logs me in, I see the wallpaper and then grey screen with my mouse cursor.

Panic. Then it transitions nice and dandy like to the login screen. I do this several times.

Then I decide a reboot is what I need. So I do that a few times and same issue.

Now the sweat is flying off me, I'm sacred ********. I nab my ole 3Gs and search and go for safe mode.

It goes smooth then shuts down BEFORE the login screen. Basically goes black and I thought it was on (iMac). So I start her up again.

(I don't know if that is reg safe mode behavior but I read that you can boot straight to the login screen and enter your account.)

It turns on to the login screen. Then finally I can enter into my account.

Was it worth updating? No.

My monitors still won't show up. Ever since 10.8.3 I had this issue. I did try only one though which uses USB. Just a black screen on the monitor.

Some fast benchmark show faster 3D at least on 650M.
Considering 10.8.3 was the fastest OS X yet, it is a good thing :)

Hope to see OpenGL4 in OS X 10.9

----------

The only issue that interests me in 10.8.4 is whether the shutdown is faster, and no one has commented on that - except someone who has only used the betas.

Other than that, 10.8.3 is stable for my purposes.

I don't use iMessages, which seems to be generating most of the comments.

So why should I bother updating to 10.8.4. I might as well wait for 10.8.5 which might reduce the shutdown time.

Any comments?

It is always better to update

HD 4000 is showing a little faster too, at least on novabench.
Though I'm not sure why the processor dropped in score...

Because it's more stable all around. You can still update to 10.8.5 later from 10.8.4. It's not an either/or proposition.

Anyone know what's in the security update for Snow Leopard?

Based on the bom files, the only differences I can see from 2013-001 are a bunch of Ruby package updates, openssl 0.9.8r -> 0.9.8x (libcrypto), and some xprotectupdater stuff.

I don't know if the update deleted some caches or something, but after the upgrade and reboot, the MBA 2011 seems to respond quicker on general desktop-related tasks.

Or maybe a newer graphics driver ?

iMessage fixed! great! Does anyone know if safari supports the full WebGL now? I still can't use the Google Maps Beta with it:(

NVidia CUDA?

Installed 10.8.4, and had message pox pop up saying I have Cuda driver 5.0.45 and an update was required, but that no newer Cuda driver is available?
Running on a new iMac 2013 27inch i5 2.9ghz
Any thoughts?

Just a couple of items for me that I'm hoping to be corrected in this update:

Mail: Graphics issues "inside the mail" - No real better way of explaining it.

Downloads folder: Show item info keeps returning when I don't want to see it

By "Mail: Graphics issues "inside the mail" I think I know what you mean, when you open a message that has say a date or number in it, it misplaces.
I've had a play with the update, and I can't replicate it. Fingers crossed.

Cuda driver 5.0.59 is available.

EDIT: On a MacBook Pro mid 2009 (9400m and 9600m gt).

Improves Active Directory log-in performance, especially for cached accounts or when using a .local domain

About frickin' time! Our Mac clients are on a .local domain and it takes about 35 seconds to login because of the clash with Bonjour. I'm hoping this fixes it!

How do you know 10.8.4 is more stable than 10.8.3? Because it’s newer? There have been plenty of 0.1 updates to MacOSX that made the system far more unstable.

What are you talking about!? The software is getting better. It may be performing worse on older systems, but that comes with the territory.

I mean both performance and bugginess. Mountain Lion has many bugs, such as notification centre rarely working right, 3 finger gestures not always working, etc... While these aren't a big deal, Leopard/Snow Leopard had far fewer bugs. It's because ML has so many features, it does so much, that it's inevitable. Snow Leopard used to do a full reboot in about 30 secs, while ML takes many minutes for me. ML just feels bloated, while SL seems like a slim, basic OS that really works extremely well (a bit like like XP).
