Hopefully the new iTunes version corrects the music syncing issue where it hangs at step 5 of 6.

In all these years (since 10.1) this is the first update you guys have scared me out of doing...

I'll wait and watch. So far I haven't seen one positive post on this update.

This update seems as messed up as the first one.

Do we need a third Beta of 10.8.5?

(This update is not getting anywhere near my MBP)

Icon/Sprite issue with iTunes 11.1.1

Anyone else seeing this with the latest release of iTunes? Looks like the developer screwed up the sprite mapping.

Yup, mine and another co-workers computer. Plus, connecting an iPod Touch with iOS 6.1.3 crashes iTunes. Oddly enough my iPod Touch with iOS 7.0.2 is unaffected.

Also these issues...

My ATV3 has been disconnecting constantly from my iTunes since 10.8.5 so I hope this fixes it.

Let's change that then. :)
I've installed it on both my iMac and MacBook Air, and it works well.
Camera works on both machines, iTunes works perfectly on both machines as well.
No garbled text, buttons or broken apps page or anything like that.

It just works.™

I'm not seeing any of the problems reported in this thread. I wonder if there was a corrupted update, and they quietly fixed it before I upgraded?

USB drive disconnect problem

Hi,

Has anyone tried 10.8.5 to check if the USB drive diconnect problem is fixed. I have been having an issue with usb drive diconnecting after a while and not reconnecting when getting back from sleep. This is on an IMac i5. This is a mac approved drive used for time machine. I am not able to do a reliable backup. I did an update on another IMac, core 2 duo, with the early release of this patch, but I had all kind of problems. I had to finally restore from time machine. Lucky that time machine was ok on that machine. So I am a little worried to upgrade to that patch.

All fine here, Newstand hidden inside folder and all that.

Although my update did stall out and I had to hold the power button and try again (didn't have to download again), the logs look it like it had something to do with usbmuxd crashing but I'll just assume it was a fluke unless I see some remnants of a bad update.

I never had problems with Time Machine over USB, however your issue sounds exactly like when I tried to attach a disk to an Airport Extreme and backup over the network... Is the disk connected to the computer directly, or through one of those fancy [17-port] USB hubs?

Delete it and see what happens! :D
"just noticed a dodgy file called 'mach_kernel' on my root drive... wots this all about...? anyone else got this...?"
Deleted that file, system still works just fine, no issues at all. How's that for crazy?

this so didn't fix the iTunes podcast issue... smh

Ugh. I'm fascinated how absolutely no one (had a horrible time with Downcast earlier this week) can figure out how to sync Podcast play position or even subscriptions between the Mac and the iPhone.

iTunes just continues to re-download the same podcasts when i press the sync button. I am not even deleting them, it just re-downloads the same over and over. just don't get it either...

BTW... it's been "beach balling" for the last ten minutes... guess its time to force quit

Don't restart. Seriously.

Had to restart, everything works fine.
Will copy the file from an external HD I updated, and which had the mach_kernal file hidden after the update, just in case. That's why I put that "" icon in the last post, seriously everything is working fine without the kernal !!
This 10.8.5 system is so confused it works without an essential file .....

crApple. I haven't said that since my days of being a PC user, but after their inability to fix iTunes permissions issues, here it goes: crApple.

And... Permissions from iTunes 11.1.1 are still NOT REPAIRABLE.

Apple should ditch permission repair if it's not important at all.

Oh good, I'm not the only one having this problem. Carbon Copy Cloner always fails to copy iTunes, but I ignore it since I don't care.

The disk has been tried directly on the IMac USB port and on a USB hub (not that much port... ;) ). This drive is quite new. It's a Seagate 1TB external drive. It's just like if the command that is sent to wake up the drive is not receive by the drive. On other drive I have that are working, it take a wile for the IMac to wake, but it does wake up.
