Does anyone know whether this update addresses and fixes the wireless problems experienced by numerous MBAir users?

I wasn't aware of any wireless issues. Are the 2013 models affected as well? So far so good here...

it's an issue, yes

erm, there's one thread alone with 220,000 views and getting on for 2,000 posts over on the Apple Support pages.... the 2013 models are affected, yes

Anyone else seeing this with the latest release of iTunes? Looks like the developer screwed up the sprite mapping.

For anyone having these "garbled iTunes menus" and other iTunes related issues following this release (as I and others were), if you simply install the standalone 11.1.1 version of iTunes afterwards, right on top of the already installed and badly borked 11.1.1, the problems go away. I also had repaired permissions several times to no effect before trying this, but then did it again anyway prior to installing the standalone iTunes, just to be "safer" I guess. In any case, it worked and I now have a functioning iTunes with syncing, app updates etc. and proper graphics and menu options.

Just hoping this helps someone out there.

Does not fix the permissions issue.

Where are these updates for 10.7 Lion? I can't upgrade to 10.8 on my high end Mac Pro.
It feels like the G5 Power Mac installed base abandonment all over again!

I downloaded the combo update, and don't have any of the issues mentioned here - so no mach-kernel visible, and video skype still works. This on a 2013 macbook Air.

For those having wifi glitches: I had problems staying connected to enterprise networks but a cache clean-out with onyx solved that problem, though your mileage may vary, obviously.

you guys ARE logging in as a different user than your main identity and running perm repair from disk utility after every update right?
Shouldn't have to of course, but I find it ameliorates a lot of the pain.
I think many issues are fixed by this (or more serious plist intervention, which again we shouldn't have to do).

I installed this update on my current-generation Mac Mini with no problems, but my 2009 iMac has been stuck on "less than a minute remaining" for several hours now. Should I just let it go for a while yet or try restarting the machine?

It is included.

It can be done separately.

Edit: I updated the iMac and only pressed the 10.8.5 update and restarted. Software Update after the restart still shows iTunes has an available update and iTunes itself prompted me to update itself as well.

There's nothing quite like two conflicting answers... but I trust the screenshots and will bite the bullet when I get home :)
Two conflicting answers thanks to Apple. Mine showed up as a combined download while SandboxGeneral had separate downloads showing.

Never mind, saw you answered earlier.

Well the general perms and disk activity issues seem to have chille dout.
But the iTunes perms are still hosed.
did perm repair both logged in as admin and logged in as me. Still getting same amount of perm errors.
Maybe chown the whole directory when I get home tonight?

My late 2012 iMac has same issue with 10.8.5. Seems to be coming out of hibernation, not sleep and also keeps the Apple bluetooth Trackpad from working for a longish time and the Crashplan process from reconnecting quickly also.

Have filed a bug report.

Haven't installed this update yet.

Installed supplement and the sleep problems appear, so far, to be fixed.
:)

Damn, does not fix the well documented issue where skype doesn't recognise the Facetime Cam on a new MacBook Air. Anyone have a different experience?

Why is it Apple's job to fix SKYPE's bugs?
This particular issue --- removal of a 32-bit driver --- is hardly a surprise. Apple has been telling developers for YEARS that it's going all 64-bit, that 32-bit plugins of all forms are going away, that all code should be shipped as either 64-bit only or fat.

Microsoft has chosen to ignore to ignore everything Apple has said (just like it has chosen to ignore repeated bug reports over at least two years regarding how to handle audio on laptops in the presence of sleep-wake cycles). Why blame Apple for Microsoft's incompetence?

Combo and Delta Updates Updated

Just a note that the 10.8.5 Combo and Delta updates were also re-released with the Supplemental update rolled in. It seems too that while the Supplemental update causes mach_kernel to become visible, the new Combo update does not have this issue

What exactly are the real consequences to these permissions issues? I ran Disk Utility and saw the errors when executed "Verify Disk Permissions," but iTunes seems to be working just fine for me.

Edit: A quick search of the Apple Support forums revealed this helpful post:

So I think the people blasting Apple over these "errors" need to take it down a notch.

I do not agree. Over the past year, Apple has had terrible quality control. This most recent issue with iTunes - while it doesn't personally affect me - is absolutely blatant disregard for quality, as it happens on every single computer with iTunes 11.1 and is reported by disk utility. It's damn silly that they allowed it to occur in the first place but it's even worse that they didn't correct it on the update. That said, if you do a little more research you will find that some users report crackling audio in iTunes since 11.1. Is this related? Who knows.

Anyways, this combined with other issues throughout the past year (ghosting on screens, the battery issues that plagued mountain lions initial iterations, laggy rmbp ui, iMessages not sending properly in ios7, etc. etc.) all underscore how crummy Apple has been at providing quality. It's literally as if they don't even test or use their own products. I hope I'm wrong, but the direction of the company is currently garbage.

Since 10.8.5, I've had some wifi issues and quite a bit of overall sluggishness, most noticeably with volume adjustments. Pressing the volume keys would cause a momentary beach ball followed by a period where the volume would change by one bar every 2-3 seconds.

After the latest update, the overall sluggishness has remained, the volume adjustments are still being delayed, and now iTunes is absolutely nonfunctional.

In other news, I also have wifi issues and overall sluggishness since upgrading to iOS 7. Loading any web page in Safari now takes three or four refreshes before it will fully load the page.

Fixed in Mavericks! The errors are there, but once repaired they stay repaired. :D

If the earlier 10.8.4 is performing absolutely rock solid for my admittedly narrow range of usage of very common apps, why should I update to .5 given the abundance of reports of bugs in .5 ?

You shouldn't upgrade if you have to ask this question.
