Is it just me or does this update only introduce new problems instead of fixing old ones?

Is iTunes 11 really included (ie. forced), or is it a separate installation as implied by the screenshot?

It can be done separately.

Edit: I updated the iMac and only pressed the 10.8.5 update and restarted. Software Update after the restart still shows iTunes has an available update and iTunes itself prompted me to update itself as well.

There's nothing quite like two conflicting answers... but I trust the screenshots and will bite the bullet when I get home :)

crApple. I haven't said that since my days of being a PC user, but after their inability to fix iTunes permissions issues, here it goes: crApple.

What exactly are the real consequences to these permissions issues? I ran Disk Utility and saw the errors when executed "Verify Disk Permissions," but iTunes seems to be working just fine for me.

Edit: A quick search of the Apple Support forums revealed this helpful post:

Just ignore it.

In most of those, it says "should be drwxr-xr-x ; they are -rwxr-xr-x" - the important part, the actual "permissions" is everything except the initial "d" - and the only difference I see is the initial "d" is missing in the "they are" part.

The "d" stands for "directory" which on a Mac we usually call a folder. For some reason, there's some confusion about whether these should be folders or not - but the actual permissionss (read, write, or eXecute - the 'r" "w" and "x"s) are all correct.

My guess is that Apple changed the way they create ".nib" files, and Disk Utility hasn't been updated yet to recognize the change. So the problem is in Disk Utility, not in iTunes.

So I think the people blasting Apple over these "errors" need to take it down a notch.

If you got the full installer from the MAS and want to make a bootable usb, the "old" method of restoring the installesd.dmg file directly to usb works.

"10.8.5 supplemental"??

Doesn't 10.8.5.1 or 10.8.5a make more sense? It's a numbering system...

Gary

Apple's use of a supplemental standalone patch instead of incrementing the OS version only causes headaches for administrators. Imagine having to write some script to determine if all of your servers are up-to-date?

This issue could easily have been avoided.

Trying to clear your cache and put it into the trash requires a password now and then it doesn't go into your trash, but just disappears without clearing HD space.

A positive: like some others I'd been having problems with bluetooth keyboard and trackpad after waking from sleep (late 2012 27" iMac). It took an age to reconnect. This now seems to have been fixed!

FWIW to those who have yet to update:

I updated my rMBP and now the internal camera does not work in either FaceTime or Photo Booth: "There is no connected camera." As a matter of fact, the camera no longer shows up in the system information.

Additionally, why is the Mach_Kernel now visible in the root directory?

MacBook Air wireless problems addressed?

Does anyone know whether this update addresses and fixes the wireless problems experienced by numerous MBAir users?
