Umm... forgive me if I just don't see it but the headline in this article explicitly spells out that the SSL vulnerability fix was included in this patch, yet I see no mention of it in the release notes in the general release notes or the security release notes... Also other sites are already reporting that the fix is NOT included in this update... which is right?

Didnt see it either. go do the test and see is it passes or fails. https://gotofail.com

So overall question, is the SSL thing new? Or has it basically been in existence since Safari 1.0?

Have we been totally f'ed in all the past versions of OS X?

I have no idea but that made me giggle.

The MAS.

*snorts*

It stands for Mac App Store. I just couldn't be bothered to type it all. Glad it made you giggle :D

No. It only affected Mavericks.

I'm not a hater. This was a major, major security flaw that prevented me and many others from working with our Macs out on public networks.

It was not a difficult fix, and it should've been patched alongside the iOS patch. They didn't need to wait until 10.9.2 was ready. No excuse.

You obviously have never worked on a major piece of software that's released on millions of computers in the span of a few days. There's a lot more to it then just fixing the bug and sending it out.

How do you know they didn't wait on 10.9.2 till the fix was ready?

Updated

audio glitch on some Macs ? but Apple does't list which Macs.. (aka Macbook Pro etc..)

Maybie this may have been the issue with Parallels in some cases after Windows Update of of a selection of updates you get that distorted sound ?

I thought this was a Parallels issue.... I guess not.

On Mac mini, I get the following after update, while on Macbook Pro it restarts twice... the first time after install but before restart hangs at the grey screen. I needed to force power down by holding down power button till it switched off.

Mac Mini update: 900MB approx,
Macbook Pro update: 460MB approx.

Anyway good to see Apple fixed the SSL.

Uh Oh

I just upgraded and now I can't log in to any of my self hosted wordpress sites using safari. I get an error saying I need to allow cookies. Even if I allow all cookies, it does't work.

For the time being I have to use Chrome to login to wordpress now.

Any ideas?

Why would you say the MAS is safer?

Any of them should be safe as long as you're downloading from Apple's servers. The only thing to do to indulge paranoia would be to download the combo updater instead of the delta. Since it can update from 10.9.0, it installs more stuff and the thinking is that doing it that way could fix some corrupted files.

Well, if you consider that we are all technically vulnerable to MITM attacks, isn't it possible someone in. 'Privileged network position' ;) spoof an apple website? I assume the dmg files from there are still digitally signed and checked when run?

Try clear as new safari and try again

Same here on my 2010 13" MBP

I mean I never really used that feature, but it's interesting that they removed it.

I just 'discovered' that feature over the weekend - now it's gone... damn.

As I understand it, the behaviour of the power button depends on how long you hold it down for:
(1) < 0.5 seconds - does nothing (so prevents accidental use)
(2) Between 0.5 and 1.5 seconds - sleep mode
(3) Between 1.5 and 4 seconds - dialogue box (sleep, restart, shutdown, cancel)
(4) > 4 seconds - forced shutdown

That is what I am getting on 10.9.2

Same here :)
