but will it really last longer?

Seen it before but never got near the 7 hours stated battery life (even by doing just normal browsing).

it would be interesting to see how long are people getting with one battery charge to see if there are really improvements over the different DP beta versions.

DP1 DP2 and running DP3 now, have not had a single crash or KP on 4 different development machines.

Must be something related to the software your testing against, I've been running Office and some proprietary medical software with no problems.

I have had soooo many issues in DP2, I sure hope this fixes all of the crashes. I even experienced my first kernel panic ever on Mac OS while using DP2.

Not asking anyone to betray your developer agreement, but how are you developers liking Mavericks so far?

I loathed 10.7 and tolerated 10.8. I'm really enjoying 10.9. as it seems to be a return to power users with improvements in multiple display support, Finder, improved OpenGL Core support (finally!), Keychain syncing (back from the dead), consistent/cleaner UI, speed, Bluetooth support - even the DP's seem more stable than OS X 10.7 and 10.8.

Hints suggest iCloud will offer "Dropbox" support since dropping "iDisk". Couple keychain syncing with full document sharing, app's such as "1Password" and "Dropbox" may not be needed. Many app's in OS X such as "iWork" are becoming cross-platform, I'm curious what changes may come in iPhoto and Aperture.

Has anyone noticed "Finder" has a "Connect" button that brings up "Connect to Server"? Also, "Clean Up" and "Clean up by" under "View".

Update: Didn't realize it's already in 10.8. Whoops, sorry!

After releasing the third beta of iOS 7 this morning, Apple has seeded the third Developer Preview of OS X Mavericks to developers.

The third iteration of the OS X Mavericks beta comes two weeks after Apple seeded the second version to developers, focusing on performance enhancements and bug fixes.

OS X Mavericks is slated for release this fall and includes new features like a tabbed Finder, full screen dual monitor capabilities, Safari improvements, and a new Maps app. Developers can receive the update via the Software Update tool in the Mac App Store.

OK, so does the new Maps app finally allow your friggin' laptop to figure out where it is? I thought that the original iPhone used some WiFi data pinging to locate your phone as a part of "assisted" GPS. I want my damn laptop to know where it is *automatically* so that, for example, it can set it's own damn clock without my help.

I love Apple, but for pity's sake, this should be a no-brainer by now. It's called a laptop, even if it *is* too hot to sit on your lap, but it used to be called a portable, meaning you could take it with you somewhere *other* than your desk/office/house. Come on, now! Figure it out!

DP3 is here? Nobody believed me when I posted it 5 hours before the see was released..

Anyway, testing now. Exchange Server connections have serious issues in Mail.app. This bug was not present before, so be careful...

Anyone notice how the text in the Notifications bar gets cut off after a few letters? This is annoying.

Hi All,

I have updated from DP2 to DP3 this afternoon, normally I grab the .pkg file form /library/update before restarting but unfortunately I was away from the computer at the time and it auto-restarted.

After the reboot the file is missing as the update routines must clean up after themselves.

Anyway to get this file back, or download it again?

Noticed that as well... I hate it when new updates that are supposed to fix bugs, introduced new bugs instead... Sometimes I just don't understand what's Apple doing...

On a side note, the Info tab on my iPhone on iTunes is still missing...

Also found out that whenever iTunes is launched to resume download of iOS apps, it will always prompt for Apple ID and password. Didn't notice this on previous DPs...

The integrated and discrete graphics debacle seems to have solved on DP3. Adium and Hardware Monitor no longer trigger discrete graphics. Time to observe if Mavericks has better battery performance over Snow Leopard...

That looks so much better than ios7 white and grey flat bland unorganized blandness. I thought I was going to love ios7, but I have found that I actually love me some skeumorphicism.

The new ios7 folders has to be ugliest example of plain boring and somewhat less functional-ness. The previous way the screen split open was an example of good functional eye candy tha gave you feedback. It just needed to let you scroll down to see more apps. Now, you get a blurry square that zooms up. You don't see where you are in the interface. Notification center is same way. In ios7 it's just so flat that items have little meaning. And gawd, overall, get rid of the little carrot arrows all over. I'm all for navigation having some sort of button feel vs old school text link looks. Text needs to be read to have meaning and that takes attention. Much better to have the text surrounded by an arrow shaped button as it was. Now it gives info without being read. It also separates it from the CONTENT of the page.

And all this light grey on white. Having black header bars immediately separated content info from navigation/status info.

Ive has certainly studied typography, but he's letting typography and minimalism get in the way of function. Steve might have had too much cheese in things like address book and Game Center, but I liked my yellow handwritten notes. Immediately recognized as a quick note vs an email. Now they're all just white on grey. Can't tell if its a reminder, a note, an email, or a web page. Ther was function in all that cheesiness.

But I do like new functions like the control center. Although it would've been better to have the interface slide up to reveal it underneath, as there are underlying behind he scenes settings. A bunch of switches or buttons underneath would have been so great. Similar to notifications in ML. I love that.

Activity Monitor icon on the Dock no longer shows the Memory usage pie. That option has disappeared altogether. What's available for selection is only CPU, Disk, and Network usage.
