OK, so does the new Maps app finally allow your friggin' laptop to figure out where it is? I thought that the original iPhone used some WiFi data pinging to locate your phone as a part of "assisted" GPS. I want my damn laptop to know where it is *automatically* so that, for example, it can set it's own damn clock without my help.

I love Apple, but for pity's sake, this should be a no-brainer by now. It's called a laptop, even if it *is* too hot to sit on your lap, but it used to be called a portable, meaning you could take it with you somewhere *other* than your desk/office/house. Come on, now! Figure it out!

Fail on so many levels..

Spotlight...

Not sure if this has been mentioned or if anyone is having similar problems but my spotlight is not pulling up any search result besides dictionary...

I have a rMBP and as you can see in the attached pic, when I search for anything it only pulls up dictionary... like the pic shows, i tried searching for the PDF "First Aid..." and i get nothing but the dictionary hit. Any ideas?

Working just fine here... Is everything checked under ' Spotlight Preferences ' ?

Okay, a couple of problems:
  • The problem with the dock persists: it disappears when in 'fullscreen' mode and fails to trigger when moving the mouse along the bottom of the screen.
  • Color profiles seem to have become unstable: my screen jumps from yellow to blue casts. This happens (for example) when dismissing the screensaver or when logging in.

Strange indeed... Try re-indexing Spotlight.

I tried reindexing by dragging my Mac HD into the privacy tab under spotlight preferences but even that doesn't work... it doesn't reindex once I remove it from the privacy tab.

Try running this in Terminal:

sudo mdutil -E /

Not asking anyone to betray your developer agreement, but how are you developers liking Mavericks so far?

LOL, as if even 50% of the people here running Mavericks are Developers. ;)

And before anyone flames me asking me how could I make such an assumption? I don't have to assume, many people have revealed themselves by just their sorrowful pleads for help to restore their systems back to Mountain Lion. :)

Try entering the following command in Terminal:

sudo mdutil -i on "/Volumes/your drive name"

If that doesn't work,

Try running the following:

sudo killall -KILL appleeventsd
sudo killall -KILL Finder

Hope one of them works...

I loved what i heard at the WWDC about Mavericks, and I like what I'm hearing from everyone, but my biggest beef with the big :apple: is how slow the shut down times are in Mountain Lion. Is there a noticeable difference in the start up and or shut down?

Thanks in advance you beta testing pioneers!

I believe it was meant to be Maverick's and lost its apostrophe. Thus it's not really plural but possessive instead.

Here's an interesting article on apostrophe and the USA place names
http://www.gazettetimes.com/news/local/the-case-of-the-missing-apostrophe/article_f7ec1ff0-3a52-11e1-8c54-0019bb2963f4.html

Mavericks isn't a possessive noun or a plural.
What would Mavericks, a surf spot be possessing?
There is only one Mavericks surf spot for which OS X 10.9 was named.

Now if your talking about OS X 10.9 AND the surf spot at the same time, you might say, "the Mavericks' are both awesome"

There might be several versions of DP3.

It says OS X Mavericks Developer Preview 3 1.0

i.e., this is the first version of DP3. Maybe many more to come (and maybe more frequently)

And this matters why? The build numbers are much more meaningful, 13A510D.

And this matters why?.

Well how do you explain the 1.0?

There were 4 DPs for mountain lion but some of these had several versions before the GM was released. So I reckon the 1.0 is a prediction by apple that there will be several versions of DP3 (and maybe even several for DP4) before the GM is released.

So this matters why? Well I tell you why. We probably will have many more builds released before the GM (not just 1). That's why.

Mavericks!!!!

Can't wait for this! Bought a second monitor so I could truly appreciate how needed this update was for multiple displays!

There were likely going to be a dozen builds released before GM regardless of the numbering system used.

What difference does it matter if it goes:
DP1 > DP2> DP3 1.0 > DP3 2.0 > DP3 3.0 > DP4 1.0 > etc... etc...
or
DP1 > DP2 > DP3 > DP4 > DP5 > DP6 > etc...

Now if someone wants to offer up evidence that Apple actually releases new features in DPX steps, and just bug fixes in the versions, I'll be intrigued... but to my knowledge the numbering to largely meaningless.

OSx Mavericks Makeover

Yes Mavercks has had a bit of beef added to the logo etc, I think this is reflected in beta3 for iOS7 - fonts have put some weight on :p
