Apple Releases OS X Mavericks Developer Preview 6

Same here. There are some performance tweaks, but beyond that (as a single screen user) I don't see many killer features really on a end-user level.

There are many features that I find very useful. Tabbed Finder, much better multi-display support, improved handling of memory when under extreme load, Safari is snappier and you can CMD-Z to undo closing a tab, iCloud Keychains, theres now a Maps app (great app!), Calendar is very improved (travel time time allocation, better schedule handling) ... There's a bunch of subtle improvements that are nice and improve productivity--too tired to list them right now.

There is quite a bit of stagnation in OS development for both OS X and Windows. I wonder how much of this is due to the rapid release cycle.
My theory is that at this point both Apple and Microsoft don't really know what to do anymore. Both companies are constantly reinventing the wheel. Most of the time they just apply a fresh coat of paint and add some performance tweaks.

I hardly use the Finder, I only use one screen, Safari is "snappier" every release and I've been able to do a cmd + Z to undo closing a tab for ages now (not new to OS X Mavericks). Granted the other stuff you mention are nice small additions, but not really that much to write home about.

I've done THE WAVE at sporting events, even a few Mavericks games, but I certainly have never heard of this place called "Mavericks" that Apple is supposedly referring to here. Must be a secret place or something, or I am not in California, thus "out of the know." I'm not "cool" like that.

Well, I had never heard of a sports team called Mavericks before.

I'm not from California either, in fact I'm not even from the USA. But I happened to watch the part of the WWDC keynote where the naming convention was revealed, and had heard of the place called Mavericks. I don't know what that has to do with being "cool" though, 'cause I certainly ain't :D

Is it just me or the trackpad scrolling is still messed up?

How is it messed up?

Not necessarily. If it only does it in DP5, chances are that it's the OS's fault or a combination.

It's nobody's fault. It's part of the development process.
Google just hasn't updated his product to an operating system that's still in a beta phase, as it's supposed to be.
These betas are only for developers to update their products before the OS release, so you should expect lots of things to break, especially if you are using non-Apple applications.

I can't seem to see DP6 in my purchases list. I see DP4, however, which is weird given that I installed Mavericks during DP5. Do I have to install DP4 and then DP6? Why?

You have to use DP5 to upgrade to DP6

This is from the mail I got from Apple (and you should also have gotten...)
"You will need to have build 13A538g installed in order to see the Mac App Store Software Update. Once the update is complete, your system will be at build 13A558."

Has anyone tried mirroring anything to their Apple TV since DP6 was released? I think it broke it for me, screen remains black, and there's nothing that can fix it.

Wondering if it's a bug of DP6 or if somethings wrong with my setup :S

Definitely a DP6 bug. Major bug, actually. Quite unaccepteble. Many developers are having this problem. You are not alone.

And you know when I want DP7? TODAY!

Have they fixed the full screen mode or is it still broken by design?

A lot of high end apps are full screen like that and if we can't stretch it across the monitors we will have to go to Windows.

You can choose whether you want it to be like in Mountain Lion, or the new way.
You can choose if you want multiple monitors to be one desktop so you can have apps span across multiple monitors, or you can choose that every display hase it's own monitor, so you can change spaces independently on each monitor.

Just go to System preference > Mission control and uncheck the "Displays have separate Spaces"

Disk utility had a horrible glitch where the sidebar graphics was glitched out for a few seconds when opening. Also the start app animation was really laggy. Has this been rectified?

Please ignore this post - answer was found above.

...
Are any other developers receiving duplicate redemption codes for Preview 6, requiring 4 to be downloaded and installed from the store, and later delta patching from Software Update to 5 then 6? 5 nor 6 have given valid codes for me so the most recent version I can get in its entirety is 4.

It seems to be fixed, use to see it in DP5, have not seen it in DP6 yet.

I think Apple knows more than Microsoft does right now. They are making one wrong decision after another, and its sad.

Also, the improved battery life. I think it's a pretty good release for only having cooked for a year since Mountain Lion. I like the direction of this one much more than that of OS X Lion and Mountain Lion who both spent a lot of time introducing iOS style apps and changing workflows (!) with the whole Versions thing, reversing the scroll direction by default, etc.

I know that. But my problem is that DP6 isn't showing under updates and the code on the dev site is for DP4. SO do I need to install DP4 from DP5 and then install DP6? Seems rather strange...

If your purchased books do now show then run the following in terminal:

rm -rf ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.bookstoreagent/ProductionBag ; killall -9 bookstoreagent

This is from the release notes of DP5...

To people that can't find the update in the Updates tab of the Mac App Store -

I closed the Mac App Store app and restarted it, then the update showed :)

i've been using 10.9 since beta 4, and i've had nothing but stability. its actually surprising, considering how many complaints i read about safari crashing, graphic glitches, slow performance, etc.

in fact i have some unapproved mods to my 13 inch macbook pro so if anything my system should be the one thats unstable. Replaced my hdd with a ssd. replaced optical drive with optibay second hdd.

admittedly the ssd makes everything faster, but usually beta bugs are bugs, and thus even a fast hard drive can't combat them. I have had safari super stable. fast. no issues at all.

Just updated to dp6 and again, smooth as butter.

The only issue i have had on 10.9 is one safari crash, viber app wont work, and one computer restart for some reason (i wasn't there. i just noticed my macbook had restarted).

I did a clean install of 10.9 btw. again, from the initial forum posts it seemed that if you did a clean install people were having a lot more issues than an upgrade (which is surprising to me).

my computer usage has been very basic though except for lots of safari tabs (12-15 generally). i use ms office, and the usual suite of communication apps (eg skype), entertainment (itunes and rdio), acrobat pro, etc. but nothing graphically intensive or hardcore like photoshop, videos, or multiple monitors.

Dallas Mavericks NBA basketball team ?

Like said, I'm not from the USA. So me knowing about a basketball team from Dallas is just about as likely as me knowing about a location in California. I just had happened to run across the name of the location before, but until now I had no knowledge of Dallas Mavericks. NBA basketball (or basketball in general) is not a big thing here :)

Or have you heard of our local basketball team called Loimaan Biisonit? No? I didn't think so ;)

MS Office 2011 Bizarreness...

I know MS and Apple software don't always play that well together, but for some very strange reason, on Mavericks DP 6 the panel on the left hand side of Powerpoint displays all the slides in a presentation upside down. Bizarre!

My big disappointment is not seeing Siri, I was that as a big improvement.
But you guys probably mean deeper in the core

That is the most hilarious bug i've ever seen!
