They updated the icon for Dashboard? Let's level. Is there any reason why Dashboard should still exist? Seriously. Everything I use it for is getting moved to the Today view.

Dude like me, there are tens of thousands of users that still evoke Dashboard on a daily basis. It's, IMHO, one of the most useful features on OSX. It'll be a shame if Cook and his gang one day decides to axed it.

They have removed the Dock options from the Apple menu. They can now be accessed by right-clicking the Dock itself.

The last iOS 8 Beta was Beta 5, which was released at the same time as OS X Yosemite Developer Preview 5.

When OS X Yosemite Developer Preview 6 was released on August 18, they did not release a iOS 8 Beta 6. Instead there was a update released to carriers for testing.

There will likely not be a iOS Beta 6 for developers. Instead there will be a Golden Master Candidate released to developers which will likely come the day of after the keynote. Then the official public release will follow after that probably a couple days before the next generation iPhones launch.

I'm sure there will still be some minor bugs when iOS 8 is released to public, but Apple is usually good at releasing iOS updates with big fixes following within a few weeks after that.

While id classify the current beta as "not bad", it usually takes Apple a .1 release to really make things smooth.

I'm one of them. But it's usually to check flight status, make notes, check the calendar or weather or something along those lines. All of that functionality is probably going to end up in the Today view, making it a pretty obvious replacement for the dashboard in my usage patterns.

Muting the sound using the keyboard fades the sound out instead of cutting it off directly. Unmuting does the opposite.

Not sure if it was like this in previous builds....but it is the first time i noticed...

DP 7 Release notes

OS X Yosemite Seed Note

Introduction

OS X Yosemite Developer Preview 7 is pre-release software. Do not use this pre-release software in a commercial operating environment or with important data. You should back up all of your data before installing this software and regularly back up data while using the software.

Please be aware that you will not be able to revert back to your previous system after updating. Please install this update on a system you are prepared to erase if necessary.

If an installation of OS X Yosemite Developer Preview 7 fails, try using Disk Utility from a Recovery HD to repair the disk.

Developer Preview System Requirements

The OS X Yosemite Developer Preview supports the following Macs:
- iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
- MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
- MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
- Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
- MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
- Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
- Xserve (Early 2009)

Notes and Known Issues

Installation Known Issue
- Users with automatic installation of updates enabled will not be automatically logged in after reboot from installing Developer Preview 7. If FileVault is enabled, the system will shut down if the user does not log in shortly after reboot.

Family Sharing Known Issues
- Shared purchase history pages on Mac App Store and iOS App Store are disabled.
- Items already owned by family members must be re-downloaded from the Purchased page (not Store pages) to get them free of additional charge.

Gatekeeper Note
- Signatures created with OS X v10.8.5 or earlier (“v1 signatures”) are obsoleted and will no longer be recognized by Gatekeeper. To ensure your apps will run on updated versions of OS X they must be signed using the codesign tool on OS X v10.9 or later (“v2 signatures”). For more information, see OS X Code Signing In Depth.

Handoff Known Issues
- Using Handoff to pass an untitled TextEdit document between two Macs may not work. Saving the document first and waiting 5-10 seconds before attempting Handoff may resolve this issue.

iCloud Drive Note
- Migrating to iCloud Drive will disable Documents & Data syncing for your iCloud account on OS X Mavericks and earlier Macs, as well as iOS 7 and earlier devices.

Aperture Note
- Only Aperture 3.5.1 will run on OS X Yosemite Developer Preview 7. Older versions of Aperture will not launch.

Aperture Known Issues
- Text and other UI elements such as checkboxes and radio buttons may be clipped or not display properly.
- Importing and exporting images, adjustments, and book PDF generation may be slower.
- Thumbnails and images may occasionally be out of sync when in Split Browser mode.
- Printing a book to Preview from the local printing dialog may result in an error.
- Adjustment and zoom sliders may not respond to single clicks and need to be dragged to operate.
- Leica Monochrom RAW images are not supported.
- The Auto-stack slider may be slow to respond.

iPhoto Note
- Only iPhoto 9.5.1 will run on OS X Yosemite Developer Preview 7. Older versions of iPhoto will not launch.

iPhoto Known Issues
- Text and other UI elements such as checkboxes and radio buttons may be clipped or not display properly.
- Images shared to Twitter and Messages may be rendered at a reduced size.
- Application window may not be restored to its original size after exiting Full Screen view.
- iPhoto may quit unexpectedly when entering Full Screen mode.

Safari Notes
- Subpixel rendering is now on by default for all web content. Websites or in-app web views with extremely tight design constraints may render differently.
- In OS X Yosemite Developer Preview 7, CSS object model getters Element.client{Left,Top,Width,Height} and Element.offset{Left,Top,Width,Height} will return rounded double values based on subpixel layout and rendering metrics instead of fractional values. Element.scroll{Left,Top,Width,Height} will return integral values.

Safari Known Issues
- Safari may stop responding while loading video when playing Netflix content.
- On certain machines, some forms of protected content, such as Netflix, may fail to play back. To resolve, hold down Option during the next reboot and select your OS X Yosemite partition.

Tools Notes
- In Developer Preview 7, unsigned or improperly signed kexts will not be loaded. To use unsigned kexts during development, this strict check can be disabled by adding a “kext-dev-mode=1” boot arg.
- AVFoundation changes the way some ID3 metadata values are represented as AVMetadataItems for binaries that are linked with the Developer Preview 7 SDK.
- Installing kernel extensions on systems running Developer Preview 7 may make your system un-bootable. To fix the issue, boot into the Recovery Partition and run the following:
⁃ touch /Volumes/<10.10 Partition>/System/Library/Extensions
⁃ kextcache -u /Volumes/<10.10 Partition>
- In OS X Yosemite Developer Preview 7 and iOS 8.0 beta 5, the NSURLSessionTask class provides a new priority property. Complete usage details are available in the NSURLSession.h header file, provided by the Foundation framework.
- URLForUbiquityContainerIdentifier: might return nil when running your application in Xcode. If so, open System Preferences, navigate to iCloud > iCloud Drive, and enable Xcode.
- Developer Preview 7 includes new APIs to create CIContext objects that use the second GPU on Mac Pro hardware.
- App extensions for OS X are always run as 64-bit code. You will need to build your extensions, and any shared frameworks they depend upon, to include 64-bit support.

Tools Known Issues
- Some python modules may fail to install.

Other Known Issues
- Some text may not be localized to the selected system language.
- Some languages may have clipped or misaligned layout.

Auto-Submission of Diagnostic and Usage Data

By default, OS X Yosemite Developer Preview builds automatically send anonymous diagnostic and usage data back to Apple. This includes information about crashes, freezes, kernel panics, and information about how you use Apple and third-party software, hardware, and services. This information is used to help Apple improve the quality and performance of its products and services. The preference is cleared in this seed. This will allow the collection of anonymous diagnostic and usage data to help deliver a high quality release for our customers. If necessary, this setting can be disabled in the Privacy tab in the Security & Privacy preferences pane.

Bug Reporting

This build is being provided to you for testing and development purposes. Should you encounter any problems, submit a bug report using the online Bug Reporter at http://bugreporter.apple.com/. Please make sure to include “10.10 (14A343f)” in the bug title and description. This information will ensure that your bug is processed quickly.

When submitting a bug report, make sure to include a Summary, Steps to Reproduce, Expected Results, Actual Results, and the diagnostic output generated by running sudo sysdiagnose in Terminal, or use the special key chord Control-Option-Command-Shift-Period.

Craig Federighi has oversight for both OSX and iOS now. Rene Ritchie claims he's much more of an engineering geek than Scott Forstall was. I wouldn't be surprised if more of OSX does bleed into iOS, especially on the iPad side.

Sounds like things are about to get interesting again at Apple. It was a tough time when the Steve was at death's door; nobody wanted to cross him, yet he was unable to exert control. Things seemed to stagnate for a few years.

Force Quit Finder is showing because you're holding down option to take the screen shot. It's been that way since the initial version. Holding down option modifies certain menu items. Quit > Force Quit is one of them.

Was this something that was just introduced in 10.10? Because 10.9.4 isn't doing the same thing. Also, the menu was like that before I hit the Option key. I even rebooted and it was still there without holding option.
