**** they removed all teh buttons I use like 100 times a day (keyboard light, expose) and they freaking moved the volume away from my left index where it belongs when working, hope its all user config or i'll kill

I'm confused, everyone is saying the keyboard hasnt changed... but it has, its different to my 2.33 C2D MBP,
The Enter button is a different shape, and the '\' has moved
:confused::confused::confused:

I accept they changed the action buttons on F keys, but the buttons are definitely different sizes

I ordered the Macbook Pro 15" 2.5GHz this morning from apple.com/au too and got notification at 6.00pm tonight that it had shipped out of Sydney and was due for delivery tomorrow (Thursday) here in Brisbane. Very excited! :D

How the hell is this possible, argh.

I have to wait till April!! In Australia 2 days, in Belgium moren then one month.

Where's the logic in that?

The American version seems to have stayed the same, minus the change to the "F" keys.

Mine's Ordered!

Wahey! At last, my creaking, spluttering powerbook gets retired!

My shiny new 15" 2.5ghz is on its way, with 4 gigs of RAM winging in from Crucial. I have a 1.5ghz ppc and 1 gig of RAM (other slot died) and a flickering, creaky screen at the moment.

I suspect I may notice a teeny difference.... :D

Oh, and if there's a major case design in 6 months and I'm desperate to get one, I will probably make a lot of my money back on this one from eBay as it was bought with my education discount.

Life is sweet....

Congrats on your new purchase Mackle, that baby'll fly through tasks.

I ordered the glossy screen 2.5 MBP, and they saying March 3-6 Shipping date..Do you think it will come from CHINA?

I just rung Apple as the front page shows ready to ship in 4 days but I am quoted 19-28 March. Apparently it comes from Asia if it needs any kind of special build. Apple did say that for my inconvenience, they will refund me £50 when the item does ship so I am happy with that.

Hot Dog!!! I'm in the same boat! I'm gonna have to try that!

Dear Apple....

Hoe lang duurt het voordat mijn bestelling wordt geleverd?

Verwachte verzenddatum: 19 Maa, 2008.
Verwachte leverdatum: 03 Apr, 2008.

You wait 6 months for an update, it's finally here and now another month

Scratch that. I'm not in the same boat after all. Mine says shipping by the 3rd of March and delivered between 7th & 10th. So how come mine is (according to my order tracking) shipping nearly 3 weeks earlier than Angus'? Did you have a few BTO options? I went for the standard 2.5ghz, 250hd with a glossy screen. I assume the screen doesn't count as a BTO option, right?

Yeah ur rite .
PS : you dont need to be a computer science student . U need to be above 18 years and enrolled in a college or university. They need your Identification proof,
Course list or current subjects you are taking and College ID Card ... these should be faxed to them for your ADC student membership to be verified ..

Then its time 4 MBP purchase :D

Possible for people outside US to use this account - maybe Denmark? =)

Is it worth to sell a MBP SR 2.2Ghz and buy the new base model of the MBP? How much can I get for my old machine?

I have an SR 2.2 and I intend to sell it and get a new 2.5 Penryn.
I think I can get about $1200 for my MBP (which is a refurb)

I actually don't think charging for the remote is a bad thing. Not everyone would actually use the remote in reality so from an environmental perspective, not having 20 or 30% of remotes finding their way to the trash in the first few weeks is a positive thing.

Agreed on the waste of the remotes. And I don't think it's the issue of paying $19 for the remote, but it's more the trend that Apple has been setting, which is used to including something, then taking it away and making people pay for it. It comes across as "nickel and diming" for something that obviously doesn't cost them a lot to make and produce.

I had the money saved up as of May, but waited this long to buy. My PB G4 667 (yes, titanium with black keys) is ridiculously outdated, so I was crazy to wait even this long. But I'm glad I did. The old machine didn't die, and now I'm getting a machine that points the way forward. I wrote the following in another thread, but I'll repeat it here:

I've been telling myself all along that I want the maximum in forward compatibility, so I'm going to trust those who say that Penryn will vastly outperform Merom once graphics apps incorporate the SSE4 instruction set.

Also, I'm certain that Multitouch will be the new wave of input technology and will become a hardware dividing line (i.e. laptops that don't have it will seem really outdated). I think some kind of external Multitouch device (mouse or keyboard) will come along for the machines that are lacking the technology, but it will still be one of those defining/dating features for laptops.

And I won't mind having the other extras (more VRAM, hard disk space, etc).

For the first time ever, I'm thinking of my new laptop purchase as a temporary solution. I intend to sell this Penryn machine as soon as there is a major redesign of the MBP, and I think having Multitouch will boost its resale value.

I think you did the right thing-- and I am seriously considering selling my Rev A MBP and grabbing one of the new ones. Also bear in mind that any new case design would likely represent a true Rev A machine --- sometimes nice to hold off the first Rev and see how it goes. The current MBPs should represent about as stable a Rev as there is -- should be fine for awhile.

Enjoy and Go Bears!

I got a shipping notification today :) However I looked at the tracking info and FedEx says estimated delivery "March 3rd". I paid for next day delivery, did Apple mess up and ship it next day? If so Im gonna call Apple and have them credit my shipping charges.

Picked mine up last night. Went to the Mall of America who was out of just the model I wanted. I drove 25 miles to another city and picked up my new MacBook Pro 2.5ghz. I love this thing and am glad I waited!!

Sayonara Apple!

Friends, it is with a heavy heart that I must inform you of my decision to abandon Mac OS for Vista. I have been an avid Apple user since I was a child. I'll never forget when my parents bought an Apple IIgs and I thought it was the coolest computer ever. After going to college and having to use a PC, I returned to Apple by purchasing a G4 iMac in 2002. Over the last year or so, I've been itching to upgrade my Mac. I began closely following the release of Leopard and the new iMac. I was sure that I wanted to buy a new iMac, until I started doing some price comparisons.

First, I wanted to buy a laptop. Looking at the Macbooks, the low-end model starts at $1100. I found a Compaq Presario laptop at Circuit City for $450. So, for half the price, I can buy a PC laptop that has a bigger screen (15.4 vs 13''), the same size hard drive, and a comparable 1.9 dual core chip. Also, my work provides Office 2007 Enterprise, so I wouldn't have to purchase a Mac version of Office. Sorry Apple, you lose.

Next, I wanted to replace my old iMac with a new desktop. After using Vista, I found that the majority of what I had heard about Vista was a bunch of bull. Microsoft copied OS X quite well; I liked the interface and found very few negatives compared to a Mac. Plus, it's nice to know that I no longer have to wait for the Mac version release of software that I want. I'm also very excited to be done with Mac incompatibility issues.

My experience with Vista was so good, that I abandoned my plan for buying a new iMac and instead bought an 3.0 ghz HP Pavilion Elite m9100z PC with TV/PVR (w/ 20' monitor) for $1150 . Compare that to a similarly equiped 20' 2.4 ghz iMac at $1800 with a lesser graphics card (Mac's ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO with 256MB memory vs the HP's 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 8500GT, TV-out, DVI-I, HDMI).

Bottom line, I got both a better laptop and a much better desktop for a combined price that is lower than the price of 1 new iMac. In the end, it was a decision based on simple economics. Macs are overpriced and Apple's greed caused them to lose a loyal customer.

Better a one month wait then not knowing if it will ever come.

Not to be "That Mac guy" but you could have posted this somewhere else. We will miss you, but we really don't care, and many of the veteran posters have been through these discussions enough, and in the end it just comes down to personal preference.

We know there isn't anything wrong with Vista
We know there are some things wrong withe the Apple universe
Many of us stay/move for personal reasons
Many of us stay/move for professional reasons

Apple nor Vista is loosing in this situation, just for you. If I were to write the same thing for Vista (which looses horribly in my book) on a Windows site the more sensible posters would say the same thing.

Thanks for the speech, but we really don't need it here, it should be posted somewhere in the community forums or something.

Thanks.

OK. It's hard not to view this post as trolling since this is your first post here..

Sounds like you have a great machine, despite it being an HP (they should stick to printers). Hopefully you won't end up in the Vista boat with me, a wonderful computer but no damn drivers. ;)

Now that I read your post I see that you are kinda trolling my friend. This last statement proves it, since you are neither a loyal customer since you didn't buy any recent or new Macs, and you are false in your statement that your decision was based solely on economics and that Macs are overpriced.

You didn't even buy comparable machines, so your judgment is false to say the least.
