ok...i have been soooo close to ordering a 12" iook 60gb w airport (then buying 512mb ram from elsewhere).

This (additional applecare) would defiantely make the deal for me!! Do you have any information on this? Is it just if you buy in an apple store or does it apply online too? Does it automatically get upgraded or do i have to apply or something.

I don't know. Ring Apple.
Don't forget you can buy it afterwards but probably if it comes free with education you need it upfront.

one last question...(sorry for the disjointed post), anyone know any good ram providers in Sydney/Australia?

Thanks

i got my ibook!

just like to say that i am the proud owner of a 14-inch ibook with 1.2 ghz processor, 768 mb ram, 60 gig hd, and bluetooth. ordered on monday afternoon and got it on thursday afternoon, even though the apple order page estimated an april 26 delivery date. i'm pretty happy, but i have this one "stuck?" pixel that's red and won't go away. :( at any rate, it's light-years better than my powerbook g3 400 mhz. but the ibook's speakers are lame compared to my old pbook.

New Powerbook, Yeehaw

Hey
So excited, just got a new pb 15 inch 1.5 with everything to complement my g5 dp tower, wow, no more new computers for me for a while, it is a fast sucker, i am impressed so far, not that it will reach the pinnacles of my other machine, but i definetely have say that my G4 powerbook has no noticable defects yet and the apple store people were pretty reassuring that the defects of the first aluminum pb were fixed and so far it is true, a truly marvelous machine, does anyone have a recommendation for a bag, i bought and am trying out the brenthaven professional 15 for my powerbook, but does anyone think the profile 15 is better(smaller bag)
Thanks

work

jeez, i wish i had the luxury and use it mostly for LAN gaming like your are ;). For me, it's some occasional pshop/indesign (my profession), etc. writing ideas, etc.

It's paid for by freelance work long ago, that's why i'm impatient to get it. :( and folks (I counted 3) who already got their 12"-ers BTO, edu, or otherwise, are making me a bit onery. And a bit jealous. Well, not really ("It's just a tool, it's just a tool. A really nice tool...").

OMG, I have been battling the same issue with FedEx's website for the past two weeks. I thought maybe there was some error with my Javascript... anyways I just keep having to force quit Safari--that becomes very annoying.

You don't have to force quit Safara btw. Be patient and it will finish its business. FedEX likes to bounce the ball..

PS - question - do those of you who are doing marginal upgrades (from TiBook, earlier AlBook) do clean installs of all your apps or do a clone of your drive via Firewire target mode. I'm thinking about seizing the opportunity to do some housecleaning but OS X is so good about staying healthy that I'm not sure if I relish the work with 100 apps on my machine!

Sigh...I'm reinstalling everything, except Virtual PC. With the upgrades I've purchased over the years, this is no small undertaking. But I expect things will run better, if not faster, making the effort of a clean install of over 10 apps. If anyone has a better suggestion, I'm open to it.

I am going to use mine for AIM, iTunes, internet, Final Cut Express, Gaming (Warcraft 3, Myth 2, UT2K4, and Call Of Duty mostly) and showing off to my PC using friends who all have desktops.

Word, Excel, iTunes, internet, gaming (Halo (got check that it works ok first), UT2K4, Battlefield 1942 when it comes out, Are we getting Doom 3?), Virtual PC (and pc software like raster mosaic maps etc) and later this year iMovie and iDVD.

I plan on doing anything and everything with my PB!!!!

funny thing is, this will be my second Mac. My first one being my 10 day old 1.25 PB, that I took back to order my 1.5PB.... Does that count?

I get the beach ball as well. The curious thing is that my PB left Anchorage and is back in Shanhai at 9pm. My expected deliverly is 4/28 as well however. Wha happened?

I get the serious beach ball when using FedEx tracking as well. I sent it in as a "bug report" to Apple. Others should as well... :)

Oh, and mine was on that plane too. And I think the oddities in times on the FedEx site are due to timezones. How do the times relate when comparing Anchorage and Shanghai local times?

They don't account for time zones. All scans are done in the local time, so it really has left anchorage and didn't go back to Shanghai. Don't you know that you can send a letter from China to California and have it get there yesterday?

man. that kind of blows; the fact that your 17", which was supposed to ship in May, is already shipped, and my 12" order is still Open. WTF? The Apple Store rep. said it could just be a different billing/shipping (work), and everything else looks good (Apple Loan). Edu-- someone else ordered this way here and got theirs already. I'm on the West Coast; I don't know what to make of it.

Did you use an Apple Loan?

Cripes. this sucks (for me).

Yes I did use the Apple Loan. I'm using it to help build my credit!:)

I guess the 17"s shipping in May was a rumor. Mine said 4/26 since I ordered it.

Yep, within 30 days (hopefully more like 21) I shall finally be a Mac owner. :)

I am now figuring out all the things I want to do to set it up properly and then back my config up on a dvd-r as a first step.

I want to lock down the firmware security etc. Set up multiple accounts. Import stuff from my pc. Go through the 2 dozen or more mac cds from mags I now have and check out version tracker.

I also have a truck load of cds to put in itunes and then put on an ipod.

Which reminds me. I am thinking about having several accounts on my PB to kepe my desktops focused. Ie an Admin account, a writing account, a games account...an idea at least I am toying with. If I have iTunes stored on one account is it straight forward to allow the other accounts to access the music even when the account with the iTunes is closed?

Me too! Counting the days down untill I get my new PB. First time to a mac & first time for a notebook/laptop/powerbook!

Just thinking about it now I may have to get a external HDD as I have about 35 Gigs worths of Mp3's to put onto Itunes! Damn more expeniture !

Well will take its slow & get use to the PB 1st before I get any other devices.

Also so pleased I got a superdrive :D :D I,ll be writing DVD's on the go.

New Powerbooks arrive in CompUSA Reno

I stopped by my local CompUSA in Reno, and found out that they just got the new powerbooks . I guess I am going to have to pick up that the new 12 inch Powerbook with the Superdrive to complement my G5 dual 1.8 Ghz. I was thinking about buying a discontinued model which they still have, but I think the new one is definetely worth the extra 300 dollars. In my mind, this particular model got a load of upgrades (faster processor, bigger hard drive, included airport extreme, etc...). I am still debating whether I should get a Brenthaven or a Timbutku bag. Any suggestions?

  • Some websites, Java, Apache... Obj-C maybe?
  • QuakeIII : Can't wait to see the look on my clanmembers' faces when I show up at our lan and kick their collective ass with a mac :)

  • But mostly the best use that will come out of it is taking my breakfast in my garden while browsing macrumors.com :D

Any frenchies got their BTO pb yet?

my PB's status is "release for delivery" at 1:41 AM on 4-24 in Indianapolis, IN... so close to columbus, OH!! it would appear as if my book will indeed be here monday morning before 10:30.... drool...

3 Questions

Ok, so i just ordered my 15" 128mb 5400rpm powerbook from the Developer Program store yesterday and I'm so freakin stoked i'm about to pee in my pants. Today (friday) I got my confirmation and it says it will ship out on or before 4/29. So my first questions are...

1. How fast are they shipping, is it before your estimated ship date?

2. Do the ten year olds that put these machines together in blebleckistan work on the weekends? (This one's just kind of a joke, but it would be cool if they finished mine over the weekend then shipped it out monday.)

My next questions, which probably don't belong here but I figure a lot of you might know...

3. Is it possible to make a backup of my commercial dvd's that I have bought using my new powerbook? I'm tired of buying more than one of my favorite movies because I play them too much. (Please don't send some stupid comment about putting them in cases... I already know that but I still have problems sometimes.

4. What is the best way to totally delete everything on your mac and reinstall panther?
I've got some really freaky stuff going on with my current mac... my printer stopped working, files won't open, zip won't work, and some files have a weird icon on them now and they won't open. I figure a clean install might clean some of this junk up.

My 17" BTO just shipped

Yep, looks like that May thing was just a rumor.

Just received the email. Can hardly wait to dump this Dell 8500. :D

12" BTO FINALLY shipped. Sheesh...

I know. Only four days. But everyone else got theirs-- Wahh! Baby. OK, it's late.

04/24/2004 Shipped
