They're baaaack!

Logic??? Why would they use a thing like that?

Funny, the Fedex driver came back 20 minutes later with the Crucial shipment and admitted to his momentary lapse of reason :p I was just heading out the door when he pulled back into the driveway a second time. Time to crack open the case and add the RAM...

FYI, the Tumi bag is pretty nice. I had a IBM Thinkpad T40, a HP compaq nc6000, and a 15'' powerbook in it on the way to work (and my iPod). I'll need a chiropractor later, but everything fit.

Just be sure not to put a sports bottle of gatorade in there. I did and ended up drowning my 6 month old iPod. Now I just hope I can find a home for it on eBay heaven :(

Its shipped. wooooooohooooooo. The estimated date was the 17th of next month but I just got my shipment notification.

Now to book the rest of the week off work to ensure I'm around to collect it.

yeah, my book got here at 10:16, and i slept in till about now... i almost feel neglectful.

to the user with a wobbly computer, check to see if all the feet are present on the bottom, if there are feet missing, call apple support and they'll send you more. you might have to send the computer back in though...

everyone have fun with their computers!

Ok, my mini review. I got it at 10:28am (2 minutes to spare). I opened it up, layed it on the table, and of course, it is not level. It rocks on the front right corner. it doesn't do it much when the LCD is open. I will have to call Apple and give them a piece of my mind. Now, on to the rest. I booted it up, and went right into reloading OSX. (I of course rebooted it a couple of times, and installed my 1Gig of Ram). Now that it is loading, I forgot to check that I had the proper HD and 128VRAM. As for heat, it no where as hot as my last PB1.25, but it has only been running for about 30 minutes straight, so it may take a little time.

As for the wobble, I don't see how they can fix it, other than bending the case. I assume if I send it to Apple, they will spend 5 mintues doing that, and send it back too me :( (I think this is just an issue when working with metal, instead of plastic). But I think for a 2800 dollar machine, they would get that part figured out.

Back to installing X... More to come.

Is it possible to check that via apple system profiler or other soft? or it is necessary to check it physically?
thanks

First impressions BTO 12" PB

JonGraves said:
Like many others, my BTO 12" was sitting at the local FedEx depot with a delivery date of the 29th (I chose free shipping). However, it is now listed as out for delivery! So don't dispair - even if you have a listed date on Wednesday you could get it sooner.

Woohoo!

Well, it's here and it is spectacular!
OS boot time seems really quick as does Photoshop CS.
Interface is really snappy.
I think it's the same screen as previous revs - thats okay with me!
Runs a lot cooler than the revA 12" I have played with.
Xbenches at 129.7 (with energy saver set to highest performance).

Wow!

Yea, that will work, but I don't think it tells you the speed of the Hard Drive. I just took the Toshiba model number (ends in like a X), and googled it. Came back as 80gig, 12ms, 5400rpm, 16MB cache.

UPDATES

So I have a Ibook that I have to use everyday for work. The Logic board goes down and I have to buy a new laptop while the other gets repaired. I spend $1600 plus a airport card and get a g4 powerbook. Three weeks later
a new version comes out at the same price and mine drops $ 300. Apple says "Sorry"
If my Ibook didn't go down, I wouldn't have had to buy a computer so quickly.

Great customer service at Apple.(joking) I understand about upgrades, but If they'd give loyal users a heads up, that would be a good thing.

BTO (via Apple Store) iBook arrives

Shipping report:

My wife's BTO iBook (12", 60GB HD) arrived today via FedEx at around 9:45am in Los Angeles. I ordered it last week, Tuesday the 20th mid-day (PST). So, one week from order to door. Good job, Apple.

I'm not a daily user of an iBook so not much of a usage report. Cloning over her user partition and setting up machine. Installed 512k RAM and Airport Extreme first. Funny but AP didn't show our rev. 1 graphite Airport at the house, even at a few feet. Will play around with that when all is installed and see if we have some problem.

Most of all I am impressed with the ship time on a new machine. Nice. My BTO 17" powerbook is through MacWarehouse and just shows "processing order"... :(

I'll file a 17" report when I get my hands on it. Everyone enjoy their new machines as you get them!

d.

Where are all the reviews. I thought that there were a lot of people who received their PowerBook today. Maybe you're too busy playing with them??? :D :p :D ;)

If that's the case then I understand, even though it would be nice too hear what we (us who are waiting for our new toy to arrive) can expect....

Keep the reviews rolling - you can't get enough of them.... :D :D :D

Does anyone here have the link to that site that sold the covers for the keyboards so they wont make an imprint on the screen? I can't seem to find it in a forum search.

I would've posted my review if my roommate hadn't left for 10 minutes!!

If I were you I would look for a new roommate. That is not how a roommate should behave... :D :p

A good roommate would know exactly how important it is to stay home all day (no matter what) if ones friend is to receive a brand new PowerBook   :p

Anyhow, this is my first post from the new PB 15. NO dead pixels, the screen is perfect! HOWEVER... it wobbles.

The front right corner does not lay flat. Thought it might be the table, so I moved it from to other flat surfaces with the same results. When I type, the computer has a slight bounce, which it kind of annoying. My husband says to get a mat to put underneath.

Am I wrong to expect complete perfection for this price (which for me is a heck of a lot)? The keyboard is wonderful though!

H

Could it be that the bumpers at the bottom of the laptop fell off during transit or something? Check beneath ur PB. Or try bitching to Apple about it :).

*edit* oops didn't notice an earlier post with the same advice. my bad*

Yay mine just shipped...ordered last Thursday and it shipped first thing this morning...prolly reaching me on Friday (I HOPE!)

*rubs hands over and over again*

Yeah, I am from Norway and ordered a BTO 15" PB (1.5GHz, 1GB 1 SO-DIMM, 80GB 5400rpm, 128MB VRAM) last monday.
I received my Shipment Notification yesterday evening.
Last week it stated 'Ship on or before 28.04.2004, but it was sent earlier!
To bad the Shipment Status page does not tell me where it is, but I hope its on the way over... :D

I'm from the UK and bought the same 15" BTO as you. Because I ordered mine from an Apple reseller, I didn't get an official Apple order number so I can't track my order. You'd think orders from the UK would probably come in quickly since we are a lot closer to Shanghai than America is. I guess US orders take priority.

I hope its here by the end of the week though, because I can't wait to use my first Mac, plus I have lots of work to do!

h_harker, hopefully we'll get a nice suprise tomorrow...(fingers crossed)

12" screen how good is it?

For those who have used a 12" iBook or Powerbook, how did you like the screen? Was it too small for your liking or did you not notice? How did you have to change the use of any applications because of the smaller size?

I ask because the 12" iBook is looking more and more attractive, but I'm not sure if in the long run I will like giving up the screen realestate that a 15" Powerbook gives.
