This is good, but Apple need to work on a way for RSRs to NOT require a restart if possible. Even better would be automatic background installation with no restart, or a restart scheduled for the middle of the night (e.g., 3 AM). Having to chase people to get them to update their phones is a real drag.
RSRs do install automatically, but not immediately when they release. If you're the kind of person who reads macrumors and checks for updates and installs them manually the second they're out, sure, it won't get the chance to install automatically because you got ahead of it.

As for "restart scheduled for the middle of the night", that has been a thing since iOS 13.

Is MacOS Catalina (10.15.7) no more supported with these security updates?

My Imac is from late2012, it is fast and everything works fine, so i won't buy a new one before its absolutely necessary.

The "rapid security response update" mentioned in this thread is only for macOS 13. The fix was also released as a Safari update for macOS 11 and 12.

Catalina is indeed out of support.

Installed the RSR before going to sleep and woke up to find this? No usage during the night but my phone was charging yet the battery was draining?

Might be another reason they pulled it.

And notwithstanding troublesome things like facebook and zoom, this could be a better reason to remove it.

Apple has released Safari 16.5.2 for macOS Big Sur and macOS Monterey, fixing the same vulnerability as adressed by the RSR.

Rapid Security Responses for macOS have two different versions for Intel and Apple Silicon.

Rapid Security Responses for iOS have different versions for every individual device model (even those that would normally share the same ipsw).
Which devices share the same ipsw?

Too late.

It already installed itself even with every software update toggle off.

Because “some system files will always be installed even if Security Responses is turned off” 🙄

Really? They do that on MacOS too?!?! I thought they only did that once before, and it was iOS.

Disturbing. I do NOT want my *personal* computer doing ANYTHING without my explicit permission.

Damnit am I really going to have to return to Linux? Sigh.
