The speed from your ISP has nothing to do with your internal network. The app required you to be on the same internal network.
I think what he was saying is he usually doesn't use Wifi at home to access the Internet because cellular is faster, so he'd have to turn on Wifi just for this app to work.

I'd prefer it to work over Bluetooth too for a different reason: It would be nice if we could use the app with its virtual keyboard to enter long Wifi passphrases, e.g. when connecting the ATV to a new network or just changing the passphrase after the initial setup. This is obviously not possible if the ATV needs to be already connected to Wifi for the app to work. Entering long passphrases with the regular remote is a pain. Alas, the app doesn't appear to work over Bluetooth.

omfg... a separate app? seriously?
Yeah, good. The other is "iTunes Remote" which can continue to exist for as it for the niche minority that need/want such a thing.

The purpose of this App is strictly to mirror the functionality of the Siri remote.

Couldn't care less about Apple TV.

Is the regular Remote app ever getting an update?
Yep, they updated the Name of it today, since that's all that needs any updating.

Possible latency issue with Bluetooth??? Being on the same network should alleviate any performance concerns maybe??

If he wants to use the app he will have to turn on wifi and connect to the same internal network that the app is on. But if he does that then he won't be connected to his faster cellular connection. That is his point. He wants to be connected to his cellular connection but still be able to use the app. Which he can't.

Anyone else having trouble getting it to work? Both the Phone and the Apple TV are on the same WiFi network, but the app doesn't see the Apple TV. I've rebooted both devices, still the same. It just shows a reminder to make sure they are connected to the same WiFi network, and no Apple TV ever shows up. Ideas?

Requires iOS 9.3.2 or higher!
Hello? Not all of use can update to iOS 9 or high. (rolls eyes)

So all old features gone. Unable to select media to play, or devices to . Basically it's just a remote.

Apple makes a new "remote" app < customers mad that the App is "just a remote"

i think i am missing something.
maybe they just made this so people don't have to complain when they shatter their original remote and don't want to spend 80$ to replace it.

So what exactly are you proposing? Should Apple change the requirements to satisfy you even if it isn't possible? Should the Apple engineers give you a call to explain why 9.3.2 is required? Should Apple not release anything that can't be used with every previous OS? And while we're at it, I'm so angry that I haven't won a huge lottery. If I can't win it, then there should be no lottery and no one whould win it. I'm also angry that our sun will die at some point billions of years in the future. Life just isn't fair.

I'm having the same issue. Can't get my Apple TV to show up

There's no magic juice in iOS 9 or iOS 10 that iOS 7 or higher can't do for a simple remote app.
I have many apps released recently that support older iOS versions.

It's a flaw in the apple tv software. You have to turn on the apple tv first then it appears. At least that's how it works for me. Right now my apple tv is off and it says "offline" When I turns it back on it will appear. It does the same thing for airplay

They probably left the old one for the complainers who were about to have a melt down over something different. Now they can cling to the old app and everybody wins.

Right? I'd be embarrassed by how many times I've tried to use this stupid remote upside down if not for the fact it was due to just a ****** design on their part.

Why would anyone pay an Apple tax on TV? What could Apple possibly bring to the game to be a serious threat to the likes of Vizio, Samsung, LG etc besides a higher price?
Because those other brands can't design a simple elegant tv. Apple TV would be a complete threat. Has been for years as they watch and wait.

That market already belongs to Samsung, LG and the new Chinese companies. If Apple can't compete in the market with computers, phones, I've a hard time believing they'll be successful in the tv-market.
Apple created the modern computer and phone market. They'll compete well and continue their success.

The Apple Remote hardware is the worst design since the Hockey puck mouse. When it is dark, you have a 50% chance of pressing the correct option.

WRONG ! The chances are much higher ! Just picking up the damn piece of crap means you have paused, stopped or performed some other random action !

I guess you live in the US. The Apple TV 4 here doesn't understand Dutch and doesn't support Siri. I don't understand why it's even being up for sell as it's quite useless.
Can't really fault Apple for that, nobody understands Dutch -it's a made up language.
;)
