Your interpretation: Apple is fixing bugs rapidly

Right? Honestly, I’m sick of people who say they have no bugs, as if their subjective experience means no one else has bugs. This drives me up the walls on this forum.

If apple released this there must be a reason. I’ll download the full 8 GB install just to get this.

I actually don't get this at all. I've used macs for years and never found them "stale". Usually when UI changes come around I adjust just fine to them...but I don't crave them by any means. They don't change the work I do on my computer vastly, or how I feel about it...

I much rather Apple focus on stability and security than aesthetics, but on the whole I don't feel like I'm yearning for new shiny features every year.

*edit: I guess the gist of it is: less update frequency, more update stability. That's my preference.

that's oddly a basic perspective. im talking stale in terms of feature set, and mostly in relation to iOS.

but look, if there's a problem, i'd rather they deliver an update than hold on it because apple people have been condition to working with update droughts.

okay? it's unacceptable...so they're not accepting it and pushing the updates? what exactly would make you less irate?

orrrr like a tick tock schedule. But really ideally not. Just let the software engineers conceptualize, design and refine features until they are ready for us to enjoy! And then send them on over! I wish apple didn't feel compelled to re hash everything each october

If you do that the OS will never get released. There's far too many moving parts to get everything synchronized for a single release date.

Windows and to a certain extent Android have learned this lesson and decoupled application-level pieces from the core OS. Apple hasn't.

For people like you to stop taking the failures, and other's criticisms of a trillion-dollar company personally. You're offended that people are calling Apple's software development a failure, and you act like people who point out their flaws are "irate".

Whiplash.

Should I install this on my 2018 Mac mini, on which I successfully installed Catalina before Apple told everyone not to, and on which I installed last week’s supplemental update?

My iCloud login is stuck in some kind of loop.

Keep asking for my iCloud password then my Mac password over and over again. Not holding it.

Do you have two iCloud accounts listed in Sys Prefs? That was my issue. Once I accepted T&C in the second account I could finish the first one and it all went away.

It's not (currently) available as an incremental update (and probably won't be) for machines that have already installed the Supplemental Update. You *could download the installer in the App Store and use that. However, it almost certainly isn't worth it. 10.15.1 is likely only a few weeks away.

Yeah it's not showing for me either. Kind of annoying that people will be on slightly different versions when 10.15.1 releases. Who knows what issues that could cause.

Apple did not tell people to avoid installing Catalina on Mac minis. There was a fake document someone posted on these forums (now removed) which was the only place this claim was made.

I can't believe Team Fortress 2 has saved me from all this pain. It's the only thing really keeping me from upgrading my main iMac. If I weren't a TF2 player, I would have upgraded and suffered with all of you.

(I'm still miffed at Valve for not updating it for 64-bit though.)

would that just update or reinstall macOS

I edited my post, it's saying requested version is not found when you try to download full installer. It would just reinstall/update macOS but you wouldn't lose anything, it's just a longer way to update. They usually issue full install updates during the betas but in this case you can't even do that as it keeps saying not found.

Find me a company that releases major updates for 5 platforms on a yearly basis AND supports a wide array of new and old devices that go back to at least 2015. Oh and those devices are well integrated with each other.

I got the Supplemental Update last week (through Software Update on MBA and through App Store on iMac). Software Update now shows that I'm up to date (not showing this latest Supplemental Update) and when I click 'Get' on the App Store, it opens the Software Update pane and then I get an error saying the requested version of macOS isn't available.

You know people, it's really not a big deal if Apple releases updates every week. Look at all the other operating systems. To be honest, I would like to see constant weekly updates to macOS of varying size. (Sometimes 10.15.x updates, sometimes 10.15.x.x updates). Some apps already do this.

What really drives me nuts though, is that these supplemental updates don't have a revision number in terms of the OS version. (Obviously the build is different though.)

i dont really understand all the griping about updates this season between iOS and catalina. they're not the most solid of releases, but i'd prefer apple to be on more frequent updating schedules.
I'd prefer solid releases.

Updates don't necessarily mean things are good. Frequent updates definitely don't mean things are getting better fast.

These frequent updates are because things were very, very, very bad, the frequent updates were essential just to get their head above water.

There is no reason to make excuses for them. Apple is making a lot of mistakes, and their once-famous quality has taken a huge plunge. The culture in post-Jobs era has finally started to shift, and the result is, expectedly, bad. There has a been mass exodus of senior management at Apple, and very questionable hires. Unsurprisingly, this has led to poor quality. Apple is learning the hard way that you can't just do things however you want and still produce the same legendary results.

Yes it is a big deal, because it is an indication of big problems.

Why would you assume that? Do you work for Apple? Constant updates are required on modern internet connected operating systems. Sometimes these unfortunately require major OS changes. This isn't unique to Apple. macOS, like Windows 10, is now being presented as a service. There is no final version.
