Except for the article says it’s not for the M1 Macs.Hopefully it’ll fix the restoring firmware using DFU mode on M1 macs, and being able to reinstall macOS without needed it a second Mac wired up to run the restore of the OS.
It was 10.11. Now it’s 11.I’m probably very late to ask for clarification on this question but: wasn’t El Capitan the “11.0” version of OS X / macOS? So Big Sur should be 16.0? What happened to the old numbering system?!
how can we get it if we already have Big Sur
Why isn't this just released as 11.0.2?

Unfortunately, no way to get it if already on Big Sur. Could try downloading from App Store, but that version says it's a week old in version history.
The app store has last week's version. The new build might be to reject updates on MacBook Pro Retina Late 2013(?)
A few hours ago I deleted the Big Sur install-file that was downloaded, and redownloaded it once again. Just 15 mins ago I did check the build version in terminal, and it was Big Sur build 20B29. Then saw this post about 20B50 – and had to make a post about it.
After checking the build, I erased that Big Sur installer build 20B29-file. Just now, I can confirm my MacBook Pro Retina Late 2013 cannot find any available updates when looking for it – just the way I did a few hours ago when it did find it again.
My thinking is that they have excluded my model from updating to Bog Sur, at least temporary – and perhaps due to the bricking problem until solved.
Wow, that's something to hear. And use your backups to restore your files. The initial Big Sur release couldn’t install on. Fusion Drive Macs and would break Fusion Drive in two parts. I wonder if the second try fixed the problem.
I called Apple Support yesterday and they told me there were numerous reports of the Big Sur upgrade failing on Fusion Drive Macs. Users had to re-create Fusion Drive AMD install Big Sur from scratch. This, of course, lead to the complete loss of data.
I think it was last week's version!!I downloaded MacOS from Mac AppStore and now I have the newest build version - MacBook Air M1
There are two versions - newest with description and older withoutI think it was last week's version!!
Unfortunately I don't see it. Just last weeks version. There are two versions - newest with description and older without
No, the App Store downloads the new version. This exists at least in part to prevent installation on the late 2013 and 2014 MBPs that were not booting after installation. The app store has last week's version.
Check your software update pane, see if its there. Assuming you don't have Big Sur.This is why I wait 1-2 weeks until after launch to upgrade. I’m so tempted to update now!
OK, go ahead and install it, Good luck!! I was looking at the version history. No need to install it for me.No, the App Store downloads the new version. This exists at least in part to prevent installation on the late 2013 and 2014 MBPs that were not booting after installation.
I did, it installed build 20B50. No issues.OK, go ahead and install it, Good luck!!
Glad it worked out for you.I did, it installed build 20B50. No issues.
This caught my eye from the article......It's not clear why Apple has released a new version of macOS Big Sur 11.0.1, but 11.0.1 is the launch version of Big Sur on all Macs except for M1 Macs. This can be confusing for some people,Good find. That must be it. They’re doing some additional checks during the install process to avoid older MacBooks getting bricked by stopping the installer. Mystery solved!
The only way to know is a response from some users with this issue on the bricking.Perhaps this is a fix for the installer/upgrade process, hence why its not needed for those already on Big Sur.
