Anyone notice that the discrete GPU would come on when you are using Safari 14? I am on a 2016 MBP 15".
Yes.. I am having the same issue. 2016 MBP 15". It is clearly the new Safari that triggers the discrete GPU.. very annoying!

Is there a way to install safari 14 alongside safari 13 to try it out?
[

Installing this version will overwrite Safari 13, but you could install Safari Technology Preview which has similar features and can be installed alongside Safari 13.

Good Job??? I use "Top Sites" as my primary way to navigate. Now it's GONE! That completely negates all the important new features in Safari 14. Good job? Based on what criteria?
If Top Sites are more important to you than blocking trackers on every website you visit then you should be using all Google products and not Apple since security takes a backseat to "fun features".

Why do you care so much that people are disappointed in a feature being removed from Safari? You keep replying to anyone complaining about the Top Site feature being missing on Safari 14 as if they were insulting you personally or something.

Just let people voice their opinion – we heard you, you didn't care for Top Sites, geez…

Maconplasma, I'm not quite sure what your agenda is with regards to this forum, but you seem to have a real problem with anyone criticising Apple if it's not something you agree with. You are assuming that RJD88 is actually choosing security over the Top Sites feature. Why? Does it have to be one or the other? You've already stated that you personally do not use Top Sites, so end of story - why are you still involved? That's a genuine question, by the way. Whatever the reason, you might want to consider just allowing people to vent their frustrations with a particular issue, without thinking that they hate Apple. And Apple is clearly a big enough company to take the heat, I don't think they need a crusader. Just a thought.

Yep, there's always one in every forum.

This is a tough question to which the science of psychology has already found the answer, I'm sure. Also, I suppose the nature and origins of the phenomenon have a lot in common with the Stockholm syndrome.

macOS Big Sur didn't launch alongside iOS 14, iPadOS 14, tvOS 14, and watchOS 7 today, with the update coming later this fall, but Apple did release the Safari 14 update for macOS Catalina and macOS Mojave users.

Safari 14 brings improved performance, customizable start pages, a Privacy Report to see which cross-site trackers are being blocked, and a new tab bar design that provides tab previews so you can see what you have open at a glance. Today's update also removes Adobe Flash. Apple's release notes for Safari 14 are below:The new Safari 14 update can be downloaded by opening up System Preferences and choosing the Software Update option.

Oh, god. I miss Top Sites.
It is for that reason I won't be updating my Mac Air. I rely on Top Sites frequently!

Couple of days on and I still can't believe they ditched Top Sites just to give me this:

Looks like a mockup from a design student implemented by an intern coder who still hasn't figured out how to properly set site favicons or fit 8 chars in one line.

Seems many are being a little precious over Top Sites when its hardly an 'essential' and plenty of ways of getting to sites within existing OS.

I do wonder how long the tracking feature will stay, as it will cause absolute hell to the companies trying to target ads or for Cambridge Analytics type companies where privacy to many of them is a dirty word.

KEEP IT APPLE AND ADD TO IT FURTHER.

Is there a way to block all those trackers?

Just curious, is the new block tracking in safari 14 same with 3rd party extension like ghostery?

Me too. That's why I'm not updating.
I took the update. Never dreamt they would trash a main feature like Top Sites. That's why I use Safari. The new Start Page is stupid. I can't insert into the frequently visited. They had included a blank 404 Error page there! Why would I want reading list duplicated on the Start Page when a simple click gets it? Can i undo the update, does anyone know?

Can i undo the update, does anyone know?

I don't believe it is possible to undo the update. I had the same problem a while ago when I installed an early Safari 14 beta. To revert to Safari 13 I had to do a complete restore of the system from a Time Machine backup.

Haven't upgraded (yet) but I've been using the Brave browser since working from home back in March.

Very snappy browser and to date reports on my iMac it has stopped/blocked 351,087 trackers & ads, equating to 6.79GB bandwidth and 4.9 hours saved.

Only wish I could incorporate all my keychain passwords. Otherwise the browser has been flawless. I rarely use Safari since switching.

I don't believe it is possible to undo the update.

This thread has instructions on how to revert back to the previous version.

It would be interesting to have people post the largest number of trackers they have encountered. For me, the largest number of trackers has been 68 for AppleToolBox.

I figured out the cause of the problem. For me, I have the ABP extension installed. I had to disable the ABP Control Panel and leave the ABP on. Ads are still blocked, but you no longer have the button to control the settings in Safari. It's strange that a button on Safari can trigger the GPU.
