For years, I have been using Safari only. I tried Firefox on a Mac, Opera, SeaMonkey and Chrome, but I just loved that Safari supported multitouch gestures.

Then, a week ago I saw a thread about Safari. I joined and I saw some hardcore Mac fans slagging off Safari and wondering whether anybody used Safari at all.

I felt sad and for a whole day I used Firefox (now it supports three fingers) and Chrome. Actually, they were faster than Safari. But that's about it. Since I upgraded for 4GB RAM and I have a 7200rpm HDD, I hardly see any beach ball, which was a regular on my 13" MBP.

Things look just nicer on Safari. I'm not a web editor and I don't need Firefox's plug-ins anymore. So with this speed update, what's the point of using anything else than Safari (apart from annoying Jobs)?

If it's the multi-touch gestures that have been holding you back, there's a program you can use to create your own gestures. It's in beta, but but I've been using the non-alpha builds since November with no issues.

Why does a browser need to change settings in my router? This kind of scares me.

Well if you have a new Linksys router and are setting it up, of course your browser has to access it and make changes that you initiate. I know my issue was that it wasn't accepting changes that I made using Safari. I don't think it connects to your router automatically and does the dirty deed without consent.

Most routers requite you to use a browser to configure them. In fact, Apple is the exception to the rule in the consumer router arena by not doing this.
Oh! It's when you're visiting the router's management webpage! Makes sense, then. I thought it was some UPnP stuff or something.

Hope this fixes those bizarre horizontal graphic distortions in Top Sites sometimes, when you see distorted images of your screen saver and other stuff overlaid on top of Top Sites... Makes no sense!

I have seen that from time to time. We'll see.

Love updates to internet browsers. Out of all the updates that are released, they actually make the biggest difference in most people's everyday computing.

<---Idiot Right here.

Apple Consumer Electronics (ACE) should have fixed the issue with Top Sites months ago. The fact that fixes are still being pushed out by ACE, is a troubling fact indeed.

Oh, and don't get me started on the cluster XXXXX that is Aperture 3 from ACE, or the dated PowerMac era designs of the MacPro and 30 inch ACE-CD. Geeze, the design in 7 years old. To give perspective here, seven years ago, Kevin Costner was relevant to cinema - yep really makes you think.

Oh, ACE, how witty. Spare us the complaints, there are plenty of other threads where you can go to do that and be on topic.

It looks like Flash is exiting after you close the last page with Flash on it now.

Or not...

Worthwhile update. Things seem snappier, though not sure it makes Safari the fastest of the 6 browsers I use. For eg., Chrome, Opera & OmniWeb are pretty damn fast. Frankly, it'd be a close call. - Also use Firefox & Camino.

you only use six browsers? jeepers...

I like Chrome, but it crashed today on the government's passport site, only browser to do so.

Safari with Click to Flash can't be beat if speed is what you're after.

i just with you could block ads like you can with firefox adblock extension. i am not very computer savvy so is this possible with safari? i would switch back to safari if you were able to.

Glimmerblocker.

Nothing like it. Give it a go.

Safari would fail to apply settings to a router made by linksys sometimes. I have had this problem and glad they fixed it.

BTW, it opened in ONE bounce right affter the reboot. MOS DEF SNAPPIER AND FTW!

AND did not break ClicktoFlash. Adobe FTL!
