11 fingers are counting toes now as well not arsed what finger postion i have to use as long as the devices work and that they work wellI don't understand all this disappointment that is raising in this thread.
I do understand that we expect the 4/5 fingers gesture to be featuring in the next update, however Apple gave it to the developer as the iPad already is able to recognise 11 fingers on the screen. Some app do use more than 3 fingers and probably Apple wants feedback first to see whether they can use this or not without making unexpected behaviours with the apps.
I assume that the reason of why they said they will not implement this gestures on the next update is so that developers will be aware that they probably don't have to readapt their apps to it this time.
At least for now I give myself this explanation, rush in hype at the moment is useless.
If then they pull it as upgrade feature that for having it we have to invest money on a new hardware, then yes, we can all give a one finger gesture.
Or is this just a red herring?

Apple today issued a second beta version of iOS 4.3 to registered developers, marking a quick turnaround since the initial beta version was seeded one week ago.
The new seed carries build number 8F5153d, up from the previous 8F5148b, and is similarly available in versions for the iPad, iPhone 4 and 3GS, and third- and fourth-generation iPod touch, as well as in a separate version for the new Apple TV.
There is no word yet on changes in the new build, but the first beta version added for support for a number of features including personal Wi-Fi hotspot functionality, new multi-touch gestures for the iPad, support for video streaming from third-party and web apps via AirPlay, and a new software option for selecting the functionality of the iPad's side switch.

Why not add a settings options to enable/disable those gestures??
This way Apple could get feedback from thousands of real users and not just from developers.
They charged to go from iOS 2 to 3. They don't do that anymore.
For those of you bummed about the four finger gestures, the devs really do need to make way for it first. Our app is one that uses it to jump you to the bottom or top of a list of RSS articles. The problem is if you use the webview to show data it steals all of the good gestures for itself so you are left with four finger gestures 🙂
I think reserving these system wide for task switching is worth it though. Ill figure out some other gesture.
Is anyone else getting a really annoying multi-vibrate buzz when they get a txt on 4.3? Ever since I got the beta last week, I've noticed if I receive a txt when my iphone screen is black (off), the txt comes up like normal on the screen , but instead of a 1 buzz vibrate, there are 6 or 7- it's very annoying in meetings since it's not a silent vibrate. I can't see how to turn this off, and I was hoping this quick patch update would fix/address this, but it has not.
Has anyone found a way around this that does NOT include turning off vibrate?
On a side note, I am also seeing a lot of problems with slowness, and lags. Hopefully it will get better. I guess I need to put it on my ipad too to try out the gestures...

I noticed that as well. I believe the phone vibrates for the duration of your text tone, so if you have a longer one selected it will vibrate more. I switched back to the default tri-tone, for now, and it's normal again.
The option to enable/disable gestures is already part of the settings menu when the device is put in developer mode through Xcode. My guess is that the omission from the public release falls into line with Apple trying to keep things simple. The gestures are great and I find them incredibly useful, although they do interfere with apps which utilize more than two fingers at a time, I suppose for some that could be confusing. Anyway, anxious to try 4.3 on the iPhone but considering some of the apps it break (i.e., Skype) I'll be holding off.
NOOOOO!!!!! I was really looking forward to those new iPad gestures!
