After testing Yosemite for over 2 months, here's what's DOA about it so far...

#1 First off and this is embarrassing for Apple, but the Feedback program while collecting data from your computer disables your ethernet internet! I've complained since day 1. They never fixed it. Reported since BETA 1.

#2 Plugging in any iPhone, at least since IOS 8 (or the latest 8), disables your bluetooth completely, meaning goodbye Magic Mouse, goodbye wireless keyboard. Seems to only happen when the iPhone is completely charged. But only solution is a re-boot or standby peripherals. COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE.

#3 No clue as to whether this is related to #2, but constant warnings that Apple iPhone peripheral is not compatible with this phone. Doesn't matter if it's Apple's cable or not. iPhone is then not recognized and Image Capture program fails to work and charging stops. Tested with several iPhones, same result.

#3 No sound on SOUND keys as in you can't tell how loud you're increasing the volume from the keys. Also sound to send mail is so quiet, you'll never know if you sent the mail or not. Reported since BETA 1.

#4 Displays issues. No matter how many times you change it, Displays will not boot to the correct display you've set. For people with multiple displays, this means turning on another display or in my case having to switch to an HDTV to boot up and log in. COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE! And I've reported this since BETA 1 too.

#5 Some Mac OSX partitions are no longer compatible with disk repair software, so be careful. You'll get a warning that your disk mapping on a drive is no longer compatible.

#6 There is no indication as to when Spotlight is indexing. That's very annoying since normally you'd wait until indexing stops to use a Mac because of the slowdown.

#7 Preview loads for no apparent reason when an iPhone is connected. No clue why.

Yosemite is NOT READY FOR PRIMETIME in my opinion after 2 months of frustration. I feel like Apple owes me money. Oh, I should add, the installation corrupted my Mavericks installation too causing all Mail accounts there to be corrupted, but I can't say that's related to Yosemite except that it doesn't like other Mac OS X partitions. None of the above problems happened in Mavericks.

I can't speak for the other guy but there is this concept called you get what you pay for.

Many people believe that if Apple charge for the OS upgrades, Apple will be motivated to do quality releases because otherwise, they should be refunding for crappy ones.

By making them free, many people believe it's an excuse for Apple to be lazy. Thus the comments like "hey, it's free, how can you complain?"

I'm willing to pay for better quality software. I'd rather pay $100 every 2 years for something that I use every single day in order to get something perfect.

Just because something's expensive doesn't mean it's going to be good. I could charge $300 for an OS, though it would still be awful.
Keeping it free allows Apple to have very high uptake of the new OS, which is better for everyone: it encourages developers to build apps, means people always have the latest security updates, encourages people to buy hardware without waiting for the new OS etc.

Would I rather see less buggy releases that 10.7/10.8? Of course. But I don't think charging for it would really make a difference.

Might be too early to tell, but does anyone else notice any graphics performance improvements?

I'm using a mid 2014 13'' rMBP, and I've been very annoyed with graphics lag on dock magnification, Launchpad, Notification Center and scrolling in Chrome and Finder.

Public Beta 5 seems to have remedied these issues. Everything is super fast and smooth and I'm unable to recreate the issues.

Dear Mr Frustrated Beta Tester,

Got to System Preferences -> Sound -> Sound Effects and click "Play feedback when volume is changed". ;)

I haven't updated yet, but I assume Safari still sucks in its combined handling of clearing history and website data?

My App Store still reads "OS X Yosemite Beta 4" (on Mavericks). Like the previous poster, I'd like to download the full InstallESD.dmg, so I can do a clean install on another computer.

I tried deleting the "Install OS X Yosemite Beta.app" and redownloading, but I suspect it redownloaded Beta 4 and not 5. (Thanks for letting me waste 5GB of your bandwidth, Apple.) I can't tell because the version strings are for the installer, not the OS. Does anyone have checksums (MD5/SHA1) of the Beta 5 InstallESD.dmg?

I wish they'd let public beta people download the install images from the developer website instead of waiting for the incredibly-slow-to-update App Store.

Why is my AirDrop not working. I can't see my Iphone. allso in AirDrop I can't turn AirDrop for Everyone - there is no button for that.
My Mac and iPhone are on the same network, iPhone has iOS 8 and Mac is running Yosemite.

Is this problem, because my Mac is 2011 mac?

Will this work in final version of Yosemite?

tnx

This is my AirDrop on mac...
There is no Everyone option to choose...
Why is this happening?

just upgraded to PB5 and all my desktop icons are gone, even after a few reboots. wonderful. anf my taskbar sometimes disappears and won't reappear until i open an app. and when it does, its a dark and the writing is ghosted/offset but then corrects itself. and also, left and right clicks on the blank desktop don't work either.

Second Golden Master???

I thought GMs was the final build before public release??

Why people can't understand ??
It's SIMPLY a "Golden Master Release Candidate Developer Preview Public Beta Testing Version..."
Why!! Why!!!

Your 2011 iMac doesn't support Bluetooth 4.0 so it can't do AirDrop with an iOS device. It is a hardware limitation, so later OS X updates won't help.

AirDrop between iOS devices or between a Mac and iOS device requires both devices support Bluetooth 4.0 and peer-to-peer Wi-Fi.

For the Mac, it appears that Bluetooth 4.0 support must be built-in. I don't know yet whether it will be possible for an add-on Bluetooth 4.0 adapter to be supported by AirDrop (possibly in conjunction with third-party software and/or a future OS X update).

These iOS models support AirDrop, as do newer models in each family:

iPhone 5
iPad (4th generation)
iPad mini
iPod touch (5th generation)

These Macs support AirDrop with iOS devices, as do newer models in each family:

MacBook Air (Mid 2011)
Mac Mini (Mid 2011)
MacBook Pro (Mid 2012)
iMac (Late 2012)
Mac Pro (Late 2013)

"Legacy" AirDrop between Macs doesn't involve Bluetooth but does need peer-to-peer Wi-Fi. It is supported by these Mac models, or newer models in each family except where noted:

MacBook Pro (Late 2008), but not the Late 2008 17-inch model
MacBook Air (Late 2010)
MacBook (Late 2008), but not the Late 2008 white model
iMac (Early 2009)
Mac Mini (Mid 2010)
Mac Pro (Early 2009 with AirPort Extreme card, Mid 2010)

Older Mac models are missing both hardware features required for AirDrop with iOS, so they would need add-on Bluetooth 4.0 and better Wi-Fi hardware, plus software support.

It's not actually a hardware limitation. Apple could have chosen to implement Airdrop over standard BT, albeit not being as energy efficient. Even with an activated USB BT4.0 dongle, Apple still will not support it.

Ugh. Why don't Apple ever release a change log with these beta updates? I'd like to see what they claim to have fixed/changed so I can go and test those specific features and provide feedback. Rather than us all having to guess and find what they've changed.

In other news, I'm hoping this fixes the strange bug with WiFi which means my connection becomes very slow and needs to be disconnected and reconnected 20 times a day. Also hoping they've finally re-looked at Time Machine and fixed the plethora of issues with it.

Edit: Wishful thinking. Time Machine is still a mess. Nowhere near ready for release. This troubles me.

It is a hardware limitation because the existing iOS implementation uses BT4.0, therefore the Mac must as well for compatibility.

BT4.0 was a good choice for iOS. It helped to keep battery consumption low while allowing passive detection of incoming AirDrop requests, rather than having to poll regularly (wasting battery) or depending on the user going into an active receive mode (as is done with legacy Mac AirDrop).

It is disappointing that USB BT4.0 adapters are not supported for AirDrop on the Mac. It is most likely to be a deliberate choice by Apple to only support their hardware, at least for the initial release. It would be nice if they relax this rule in later updates, or if it is possible for a third party kernel extension to enable AirDrop with a third party USB BT4.0 adapter.

There are existing OS X features along these lines, e.g. with a simple kernel extension it is possible for Thunderbolt docks to enable "extra operating current" negotiation for their USB ports. The CalDigit Thunderbolt Station uses this to supply more current to an iPhone, iPad, iPod, Apple keyboard or USB SuperDrive. The kernel extension requires OS X 10.9.2 or later, so Apple added support for this after the initial release of Mavericks.

Submitting feature requests to Apple and/or USB BT4.0 adapter manufacturers might encourage Apple to allow a similar mechanism for AirDrop support.

Lol that should tell you something that they don't want to release Change logs for these GM candidates because nothing worth noting changed..

Apple never releases a detailed change log for any of the point updates or DP's. The changes listed in the readme's are very limited, there are hundreds of other changes in every build.

So we are saying the same thing. And i said nothing worth NOTING. If ANY of those "hundreds of changes" would be providing something like a major fix to a serious bug your crazy if you don't think they wouldn't brag about finally fixing it.

Is it just me or does anyone notice a serious memory leak when using any web browser? It's pretty bad.

Me too. Internet is very slow connecting still. I have been sending feedback on this since PB1 but little to no improvement. I can connect instantly to WiFi and then ISP but internet can sometimes take up to 10 minutes to come up. I do hope this is sorted in the final version.

latest version of iTunes 12

Please, someone tell me the number of the latest version of the iTunes 12.
Mine is 12.0.0.117. However software update shows that the latest version is available and I just can't download or install it.
