Installed PB2...

I just noticed the floating “iPhone sized keyboard” is unusable. Will report it :)
Unusable how? The mini keyboard is working for me. Keys respond to input, pinching from full size, it lands wherever my pinch ”focus” wants it to go, moves where I want by dragging the top bar, pinches out and lands where it should. No problem here. 6th Gen standard iPad.

For some reason I can download PB2, but, it won’t install. I’ve tried restarting my IPP 10.5” to no avail. I’ve turned off my VPN...Nothing.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Maybe you can clarify. Works great on my iPhone. Only minor issues so far. Like swiping in mail is too fast. Wells Fargo had trouble with Face ID last week, now it is fixed. ( interesting because a local small Hawai’i bank worked just fine)

So all in all 0 problems to report. Not “rough” at all

Safari still has some problems, like some links not being clickable.

But its mostly 3rd party apps. Here‘s a long list:

clearly no idea about Beta software.

You clearly did not understand why i was posting this.

Many people just wait until you tell them "it's pretty stable" to install the beta.
My advice for these people is to wait a few more builds.

I'm on this beta, and would highly recommend people avoid. it's actually more glitchy then the previous build. And before the usual 'it's a beta.. blah blah' as a software developer, this feels more like an Alpha.

For me, on a iPhone XS max, i would recommend avoiding for a few versions at least, cause there are crashes and freezes through multimedia apps, some of which are hard to fix and we're in beta 1.

If you enjoy using your phone? Avoid it. I know your thought is 'nah i'll be fine'. No, it really is that bad. This is coming from someone who used the beta for iOS 7 and wow that was a mess, this is worse. And considering the lack of feature change other then dark mode, it's remarkable how connected their code must be.

Additionally, yes i have been adding beta feedback, but the feedback app is remarkably slow and painful to use. Makes adding multiple bugs a tedious process.

If you haven't joined the public beta yet: don't

it's still pretty rough. alot of apps don't work correctly (or at all)
Works almost flawlessly on my iPhone. Had to remove it from my iPad, as it just kept crashing.

Apple today released the second public betas of iOS 13 and iPadOS to its public beta testing group, two weeks after seeding the first public betas and a week after the third developer beta. The public beta gives non-developers a chance to test out iOS 13 ahead of its upcoming fall launch date.

Beta testers who have signed up for Apple's beta testing program will receive the iOS 13 beta update over-the-air after installing the proper certificate on an iOS device.

Those who want to join the beta testing program can sign up on Apple's beta testing website, which gives users access to iOS, macOS, and tvOS betas. Before installing a beta, make sure to create a full encrypted iTunes backup or an iCloud backup. It's best to install iOS 13 on a secondary device because beta software is not always stable and can include bugs.

iOS 13 is a major update to the iOS operating system that runs on the iPhone and the iPad, but this year, iOS 13 and iPadOS, the version of iOS 13 that runs on the iPad, are separate downloads as they've been split up.

iPadOS is identical to iOS 13 in almost every way, though there are some iPad-specific features such as new multitasking capabilities. For the most part, the two operating systems share the same features.

iOS 13 introduces a long list of new features. Dark Mode changes the entire look of the operating system, shifting it from light to dark, while an overhauled Photos app makes it easier to relive your memories with new Days, Months, and Years viewing options.

There's a new photo editing interface that makes it easier to edit photos than ever before, plus there are new tools to work with and options to edit the intensity of the built-in filters. You can edit video right in the Photos app for the first time, and on the newest iPhones, there's a new High-Key Mono lighting effect and an option to adjust the intensity of Portrait Lightning effects.

There's a less obtrusive volume HUD, a new Find My app that combines Find My iPhone and Find My Friends and lets you track your devices even with they don't have an LTE or WiFi connection. A Sign In with Apple feature (not yet active) gives you a convenient and data safe way to sign into apps and websites, providing an alternative to Facebook and Google sign in options.

Maps has a new street-level "Look Around" mode and a Collections feature for making lists of places, Reminders has been entirely overhauled to make it more functional, there's a profile feature in Messages along with new Memoji and Animoji stickers, and Siri has a new voice.

There are a ton of additional new features and changes coming in iOS 13, and for a full rundown of what you can expect, make sure to check out our iOS 13 roundup.

I’ve had only minor issues with the iPhone X. Those have been mostly apps hanging while starting up, and not frequent or consistent. The worst was one app wouldn’t start until I rebooted the phone.
IpadOS has been pretty great on my ‘18 iPP 12.9. I’m still learning to use the file system effectively (doesn’t help that I’ve never used a Mac, do it hasn’t felt intuitive). I’m hoping mouse functionality increases. I use a Nagra mouse and I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the ability to map specific buttons for different operations. Even the numeric pad on the side is functional!

iPad 6th gen (2018) works ok with PB2. It is not perfect, I have some freezes here and there, but with no major problems. The temperature of the device is not so high as was the case with last year's betas.

When is GM build usually released? Early September? End of August? Given that we’re 1/3 into July already, I can’t imagine 13.0 will be stable. Apple announced waay to many features in WWDC, and in September we’ll see tons of news about slow phones and Apple deliberately slowing down older units.

As I haven’t seen anyone mention it (maybe they have) the issues with Mail ‘seem’ to be resolved for me on my XS. Snappy, no waiting times after opening a mail... much much better.

With a couple months left in the development cycle, it’s way too early at this point to predict how stable the GM release will be. It’s likely that certain features present in the current beta will be pulled for the 13.0 release, if they’re “not ready for prime time”. (They’ll return in a later 13.x beta.)

Also, there’s no reason to think that iOS 13 won’t be just as effective in speeding up older iPhones as iOS 12 was.

Also Apple Watch seems to have started working again, needs some poking (took me 4 or 5 goes to reactivate before O2 kicked in and re-added the airtime plan properly)

What we get is early access and an app that lets us make recommendations, not just file bugs. For instance, I mentioned that the widgets only appearing in landscape is an unfortunate design limitation, and they should try to find a way for them to be more present in portrait mode. I don’t expect that to be fixed for iOS 13, but it’s not a bad way to make your voice heard.
Exactly!!

I did that for iOS 10 (I think) with App Aliasing, won’t have been the only one but it was nice to see the offload app option make it to software eventually.

Wondering if I should update from PB1 or rollback to 12.3.x Man, that swipe functionality is killer!!

The glitchy mail app is a PITA, but otherwise PB1 isn’t so bad (prolly jinxed it now!)

Airplane mode mirroring isn’t working right...

Nope, mail is working awesome for me after updating to PB2 :)

Been using the Beta on my 12" 2018 iPad Pro. The first one was an unmitigated disaster. Pencil input was a complete mess, Safari would routinely crash in a way that made a hard reboot necessary and files randomly stopped showing external sources (such as OneDrive). Beta 2 so far ok - pencil input seems to have been fixed, safari works ok and the locations in files are back.

(and yes, I filled in reports for that stuff, as everyone should if problems are encountered)

I've got a question regarding the Photos Library.
Is it possible to use the new Photos App with it's new organisation on the iPad with iPadOS 13,
but still use the "old" Photos App on my iMac with Mojave?

I use the iCloud Photo Library.

I really want to try this beta now but I'm too scared it will mess up my phone

If a smooth working of iOS and third party apps is important for you and/or you want to use it on your main/only device, hold off the betas until you hear something along the lines of “super smooth”, “as good as a release candidate” or “golden master like”.

If you have plenty of time on your hands and are prepared to spare a few hours restoring back to iOS 12, if needed, go for it. Otherwise just wait for another month or, better still, a final release, when you will get a really polished system to play with.

Everybody’s device setup and use are different, considering the multitude of third party apps in use.

You are lucky that it works fine for your workflow, but there are many people here who were not as impressed, so the OP was just warning them, most probably out of compassion.

Yes it's possible. I use iCloud photo library with iOS 12 @my iPhone and iPadOS 13 @my iPad.

The Book Store appears to have had a major revamp, though still the same types of crass books being promoted: romance, crime, and sci-fi.

No comments on CarPlay so I'll chime in here.

Some big UI changes made to improve the overall experience:
  • Now Playing function now works. (Huge annoyance before)
  • Button UI has been improved across the board. On a touch screen you no longer have to pull over to tap the microscopic button.
  • Split screen view layout has been improved. (Mainly button UI)
  • Responsiveness is now far better.
There are still a lot of issues:
  • WhatsApp call integration is still not working correctly. Presumably a WhatsApp update.
  • Apple Maps crashes often. I don't ever use it normally but I do like the ETA feature. If they ever improved it and added POI's for where I live in the South of Spain, it might actually be useful. However, I prefer to use Waze in the background and use my built-in navigation as that provides me with HUD directions.
  • There is no integration with other map programs in split screen. I'm hoping this will be an option eventually and just require app updates.
  • Apple mentioned deep integration into secondary displays like HUD's. I doubt I'll get it with my BMW iDrive 6, but I'm guessing iDrive 7 users may benefit from this.
In short wireless CarPlay on my BMW looks amazing. Even more so with the split screen software hack, available for iDrive 6 users. (If you want to know more about this, please PM me. I don't sell this and don't claim any commissions, but knowing it's hard to find a reliable coder, I know who to contact).

(Screenshot with The Smiths is the old UI layout for comparison against the new; Deadmau5)

13 is gunna be a whopper with lots of significant new changes. I pity the folks who download it on day one when it goes live. I'm usually very wary of major updates on day one, but if there was ever a time to wait a while to install a new iOS version, 13 would be a prime candidate.
Not really, it’s yet another underwhelming version with hardly any change. That doesn’t mean it will be stable at launch but it really should be as it’s very evolutionary and not at all revolutionary.
